RESPOND NOT REACT

James 1:19

"My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should
be quick to listen, show to speak, and slow to become
angry." (NIV)

"Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be
swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath." (KJV)

As humans, it is so easy for us to react to situations
with our emotions rather than our spirits. Our emotions
cause us to react, which involves no thought on our
part. Our spirits allow us to respond, which involves
listening to the Holy Spirit, recalling God's Word, and
making a conscious choice to act in a Godly way. Are
we letting our emotions control us, or are we allowing
our spirits, under the control of the Holy Spirit, to
direct our actions? Are we reacting or responding?

Heavenly Father, we know that you are aware of the
weaknesses in us as humans. We need your help in
responding to the difficult and hard things that we
encounter in our daily lives. Help us to learn to be
responders, listening and choosing to obey the Godly
way, instead of reacting with our emotions. We pray
in Jesus' name. Amen.

Oh my...were you watching my house this week?
Thanks for the good post...and for me a little rebuke from the Lord.

Today is my son's 27 birthday and this post just reminds me that I still have a lot to learn...age doesn't automatically bring about maturity!

Blessings

I think this is a lesson many Christians need to learn. Thank you for pointing it out so simply. You said in a few words what some would take pages to say. Thank you for sharing with us each week.
Blessings,
Charlotte

Great post! Great advice from James. Easy to agree with; hard to practice.
