WORRY DOESN'T GET US A LONG LIFE

Matthew 6:27

And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?" ESV

Why do we continue to worry about things? Why do we fail to take our cares and concerns right to the throne of God and leave them there? Worry is a distraction from seeing God working in and around us.

Lord, forgive us for worrying and stressing about things. Help us to leave our cares and concerns with You so that we will be ready to stand against the evil one. In Your name we pray, Amen.

HOW TO BECOME IMMORAL

1 Corinthians 15:23

"Do not be deceived: 'Bad company ruins good morals." ESV

Unfortunately, bad company includes not only sinners, but people that are in our churches. We are to stay away from them. We recognize them by using discernment, given by the Holy Spirit. If we fail to use discernment we will spend time with hypocritical people and slowly transform ourselves to be like them.

Lord, help us to have discernment for wolves in sheep's clothing, so that we won't be corrupted and jeopardize our walk with You. In Your name we pray, Amen.

WHAT DO WE LOVE THE MOST?

1 John 2:15

"Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him." ESV

We are not told to dislike people in this world, we are told to keep from loving the ways and material things of this world. These things are what keeps us from eternal life with Christ.

Lord, please help us keep true discernment so that we do not get seduced by the ways and things of this world. Help us to stay a separate people for Your use and Your glory. In Your name we pray, Amen.

LIVING ABOVE ACCOUNTABILITY

Habakkuk 2:9

"Woe to him who gets evil gain for his house, to set his nest on high, to be safe from the reach of harm!" ESV

There are well known business, political, sports, and evangelistic leaders who build their empire in ways that are far from Spirit led. They aspire to live exalted above common man and believe they are above danger and ruin. They will be exposed for what they are. Ruin and devastation will come on them unexpectedly and it will be indescribable tragedy.

Lord, keep us from thinking we can build our lives so that we can be deceitful and think we are safe. Help us have a heart of compassion and intercessory prayer for those who do such things. In Your name we pray, Amen.

FREE GIFT

Romans 4:4

"Now to the one who works, his wages are not counted as a gift but as his due." ESV

Our God loves us so much He gave the most precious gift, salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ. We cannot receive a gift by working for it. If we work for it, it is not a gift, but something we earned. We can only receive His gift by recognizing our need for it, repenting, and accepting it.

Lord, help us to remember that we are no longer held responsible for our sinful nature. It's not because of anything we did to earn it, but Your great love and mercy is the gift You gave. In Your name we pray, Amen.

DID HE DO THAT?

Philippians 2: 5-7

"Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men." ESV

Jesus is God. He left His eternal glory as God behind and allowed Himself to be born into our world as a human. God in a human form. He didn't do this to see what it was like to be human, He already knows all things. He came to show us God in human form, to tell us how to defeat the enemy, and to give us the promise that if we believe, we will be with Him because He then went back to His eternal glory as God.

Lord, our limited minds just can't imagine this great and glorious love that You would leave Your place as God and be born in a animal shelter as a human so that we could leave this cursed world and be with You in Your eternal glory. We can never repay You, but we can give our lives over to You so that You can work through us to bring others to this infinite love and eternal life. We magnify and praise Your name, Amen.

POWER AND STRENGTH

Isaiah 40:29

"He gives power to the faint; and to him who has no might he increases strength." ESV

We all struggle and experience times of tiredness and weakness. These are the times our Lord takes over and accomplishes far more than we ever could.

Lord, how grateful we are that when we have gone as far as we humanly can, You are there to do powerful and mighty things. Blessed by Your name, Amen.

SURE THING

Romans 10:11

"For the Scripture says, 'Everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame.'" ESV

There will never be a person on this earth who puts his faith in Jesus Christ and at the end of his life hears the Lord say, "Sorry, but you just didn't do enough." No true child of God will be disappointed.

Lord, we thank You that we will never be disappointed in Your or Your promises. Even if we are ridiculed by the world, we stand on Your promise of eternal life. In Your name we pray, Amen.

WE GOTTA LOVE EVERYBODY, ITS THE LAW

James 2:8

"If you really fulfill the royal law according to the Scripture, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself,' you are doing well." ESV

Loving our neighbor is a moral thing and good people love their neighbors and are kind to them. Loving our neighbors, whoever's path we cross, is a royal law given by God Almighty. It's not just the people on our street we are to love. It is everyone we encounter. If we live by this law, we will be more like Christ.

Lord, help us to live according to the royal law of loving all others. Give us awareness that we live by this law in honor and gratefulness of Your love toward us. In Your loving name we pray, Amen.

WE ARE SLAVES TO THE MASTER WE CHOOSE

2 Peter 2:19

"They (unrighteous) promise them freedom, but they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved." ESV

According to the Word, we are mastered by one of two things: the Lord Jesus Christ or our own limited, self-directed minds. The former leads to eternal life. The latter leads to eternal darkness. The good news is, we can choose which of these will be master over us.

Lord, we praise You and glorify Your name that You have given us the gift of choice. Thank You for having charge over our lives, because You know what is best for us. Give us boldness to witness to those who are attempting to control their lives in this fallen world. In Your glorious name we pray, Amen.

HE HAS BEEN THERE

Hebrews 4:15

"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin." ESV

So many times, we get caught up in our troubles and either ask God why or we beg Him to relieve us. If this world was such temptation and difficulty for our Lord, why would we think we should be trouble free? Jesus Christ showed us how to endure the trials and temptations of this world without sinning. Then He said, "Follow me."

Lord, we are humbled at our forgetful and selfish minds. We forget that You went through far more than we ever will in this world. We expect a special, easy journey because we are Your children, but our attitude is so prideful. Help us to follow in Your footsteps as we go through trials and temptations here in this world. We ask in Your name, Amen.

FROM ANOTHER PLACE

Philippians 3:20

"But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ." ESV

Sometimes we forget that this world is neither our home nor our destination. We are here in the enemy's territory, waiting for our Lord. Our attitude toward and our response to this world makes the difference between a joyful heart and a heavy, defeated heart.

Lord, forgive us for forgetting that this world is not our home. Help us remember each day that we are merely passing through this place and are eternal citizens of Your kingdom. In Your name we pray, Amen.

IS YOUR NAME IN THE BOOK?

Revelation 21:27

"But nothing unclean will ever enter it, nor anyone who does what is detestable or false, but only those who are written in the Lamb's book of life." ESV

The belief system of the world leaves out the reality of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This world philosophy seems to make sense. It is surely comfortable. However, it is total deception. Those who follow it are lost. Those who believe in the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and walk in it have their names written in the Lamb's book of life.

Lord, how we thank You for making the way for us to spend eternity with You. Help us to tell this wonderful Gospel everywhere we go. Prepare the hearts and minds of those we will encounter so that they will receive and believe, having their names written in Your book. In Your precious name we pray, Amen.

JOY ALL THE TIME?

1 Thessalonians 5:17

"Rejoice always." ESV

How can we possibly be joyful all the time? This world is so stressful and full of trials and testing. For the natural man, it is impossible. For the spiritual man, joy is a deep, abiding understanding that we live in a temporary world and we wait for eternal life. There we will have perfect fellowship with our Savior. How joyful is that?

Lord, so often we let the things of this world rob us of our joy. Help us to remember this world is temporary, You are with us right now, and we will be with You forever. We thank You for this eternal joy we can have right now. In Your name we pray, Amen.

ATTITUDE CHECK

Philippians 2:5

"Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus." ESV

We often need an attitude check. When Jesus Christ walked the earth, he served others and obeyed the Father, even though He was God. He did everything the Father told Him to do, even to the very end when He gave Himself over to a horrible death on the cross. He was still serving others and obeying the Father. Do we need an attitude check?

Lord, forgive us for our proud and complacent attitudes. Give us the attitude that You had when You walked on this earth. In Your great name we pray, Amen.

NO MIDDLE MAN NEEDED ANYMORE

Ephesians 3:12

". . . in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him." ESV

There was a time when only the high priest could go into the Holy of Holies, where God dwelt. Jesus Christ's sacrifice, death, and resurrection changed that forever. Each one of us can go straight to God, feeling confident that He will accept us and allow us to be in His presence. Do we realize what a privilege and honor it is? Do we realize how much it cost our Lord so that we can have this honor?

Lord, what an amazing act of love You gave so that we can come directly to You anytime. The curtain has been torn down and we can come boldly into Your presence. We praise You and thank You for Your great love. In Your name we pray, Amen.

WHAT SPIRIT HAVE WE ACCEPTED?

1 Corinthians 2:12

"Now we have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might understand the things freely given us by God." ESV

It isn't in our human nature to know and understand the things of God. We can know them by His Holy Spirit. The spirit of the world can only reveal those things we can experience through our five senses. As true children of God, we can have full knowledge of the things of God that the world cannot understand. The world thinks we are foolish. They need Christ.

Lord, we thank You for Your Holy Spirit who guides us into all truth. Help us to remember that the world is blinded to the things of Your kingdom because of sin. Prompt us to pray for them to believe and receive You into their lives. In Your precious name we pray, Amen.

TAKE JOY, KEEP TAKING IT

Habakkuk 3:18

"Yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation." ESV

In spite of heartache, in spite of sickness, in spite of financial problems, in spite of injustice, in spite of various trials, we can rejoice that our names are written in the Book of Life. We are free to rejoice in our Lord now, no matter what is happening in our lives.

Lord, we rejoice that we are Yours because of Your sacrifice on the cross. Thank You for being in control of all things and giving us a joy this world cannot take from us. In Your name we pray, Amen.

WILL THE REAL CHRISTIAN PLEASE STAND UP

Proverbs 30:12

"There are those who are clean in their own eyes but are not washed of their filth." ESV

Just like Pharisees in Bible times, there are now people who believe they are all right with God and that God is pleased with them. They have never really believed, humbled themselves, confessed their spiritual poverty, and asked Jesus Christ to live in their hearts. We all should take the time to examine ourselves and allow the Lord's light to shine on our lives so we can be real and consistent in our walk with Him.

Lord, forgive us for thinking we have achieved holiness and greatness. Give us desire to pray for those who live hypocritical lives that they may see their true poverty and gives their lives totally to You. In Your great name we pray, Amen.

YOU AIN'T SEEN NOTHING YET

Luke 23:31

"For if they do these things when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?"

Jesus Christ, the Messiah, was humiliated and murdered, young and in the height of His earthly ministry. If evil was that deep rooted and wide spread during the time of Jesus' walk on earth, when the wood was green, how will it be in these the last days before His return? We are seeing evil things we never imagined possible. The wood is dry, and dry wood burns quickly.

Lord, we seek Your Holy Spirit and wisdom so that we will make the most of this time while the wood of the tree is so dry, but not yet burning up. Help us understand that the time of Your grace is quickly drawing to a close and we are living Bibles to a lost and dying world. In Your name we pray, Amen.

GOT AN IDOL?

1 John 5:21

"Little children, keep yourselves from idols." ESV

What is an idol? The dictionary defines it as "any person or thing regarded with blind admiration, adoration, or devotion." Do we have that kind of person or thing in our lives that pull us away from the true and living God? Is God in any other place but first in our lives?

Lord, search our hearts and reveal to us if we have any idols that keep You from being first and foremost in our lives. Forgive us for allowing other things to be more important than You. We repent of having any idols in our lives and give You first place in our hearts. In Your great name we pray, Amen.

LOVE A GOOD MYSTERY?

Colossians 2:3

"In whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." ESV

The mysteries of God are so intriguing. We spend a lot of time studying and praying that these mysteries will be revealed to us. The news is, God's mysteries have already been revealed to us. They are all contained in Jesus Christ. God has placed ALL of His wisdom and knowledge in His Son. If we seek the Son, we will find Him. He will reveal His wonderful mysteries to us as we walk along with Him.

Lord, thank You for making the way for us to know the fullness of Your wisdom and knowledge. Help us to seek You with our whole hearts so that we know You and receive mysteries You reveal to us. In Your name we pray, Amen.

BE JOYFUL ABOUT WHAT?

Romans 5:3

". . . but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance." ESV

It is so easy to be joyful when we are blessed with good things. But, it is another story to rejoice when we are suffering. If we will allow ourselves to rejoice during times of suffering, we will gain spiritual strength and stamina.

Lord, help us to rejoice in our suffering and remind us that doing so will bring us greater spiritual power and strength. In Your great name we pray, Amen.
