OVERCOME EVIL WITH GOOD

Retaliation! Revenge! Getting Even! They are all just the same as trying
to put out a fire with a blow torch or cleaning the mud off your feet by
walking through a mud pit. All pointless wastes of time that increase
evil. As Christians we are called to overcome evil with good. Easier
said than done, but we can choose to do it out of love for the Lord.
Blessings are waiting for those who choose to trump evil with good.

Read 1 Peter 3:9

"Do not repay eveil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing,
because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing."
(NIV)

"Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing."
(KJV)

OVERCOMING

To overcome is to overpower and defeat the enemy. If we endure the
struggle with God's help and overcome Satan, we are promised the
greatest reward of eternity in the presence of our Lord and His angels.

Read Revelation 3:5

"He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never
blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name
before my Father and his angels." (NIV)

"He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will
not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name
before my Father, and before his angels." (KJV)

GOD BECAME MAN

Christ became human flesh and blood for the specific purpose of being
the sinless sacrifice for our sin, once for all. As God, He could not die.
With a body like ours, He died and took control of death from Satan. Now Satan cannot taunt us with fear about death and hell. Christ holds the key to death and the fear is gone because He has made death the passage to eternal life.

Read Hebrews 2:14

"Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death-- that is, the devil." (NIV)

"Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil." (KJV)

TRUE OVERCOMERS

Salvation is the free gift of God through faith. However, it is our
walk through this world of time on earth that shows whether we
have truly accepted that free gift. If we overcome the obstacles
and trials lying in our path, we will be counted as the true believers
and live forever with Him.

Read Revelation 2:7

"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life,
which is in the paradise of God."(NIV)

"He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches;
To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the
midst of the paradise of God." (KJV)

DON'T GET COMFORTABLE HERE

If we are strangers and aliens in this world that implies we belong
to the heavenly realm and not the earthly one. If we allow earthly
things to grab our affections, Godly things will fade. Then we are at
risk for becoming captives to this world. It is crucial to stay away
from those things that tempt us.

Read 1 Peter 2:11

"Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to
abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul." (NIV)

"Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain
from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul" (NIV)

LORD OUR REFUGE

Seeking refuge in the Lord in troubled times is wise. This does not
mean we are running away from our problems and troubles. It means
we are in His hands where He can lift our spirit above our problems
and troubles so they do not overcome us. No one can tell us to run
from our enemies when we are in His hands.

Read Psalm 11:1

"In the Lord I take refuge. How then can you say to me: 'Flee like a
bird to your Mountain.'" (NIV)

"In the LORD put I my trust: how say ye to my soul, Flee as a bird
to your mountain?" (KJV)

RIGHTEOUS PERSEVERENCE

Just because a person is righteous before God does not mean there will never be times of failure and defeat. The difference between the righteous children of God and the ungodly is the faith of the righteous will cause them to get up, repent, and keep running the race. Those who do not know that faith will crumble under the strain of defeat.

Read Proverbs 24:16

". . . .for though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again, but the wicked are brought down by calamity." (NIV)

"For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief." (KJV)

OUR NEEDS ARE MET

The things we think we need and the things we actually need are often two very different things. What do you really need? You can rest assured that the Lord will supply whatever that need is because His storehouse is boundless and glorious.

Read Philippians 4:19

"And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus." (NIV)

"But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." (KJV)

FOOD AND WORK

Food is a life sustaining necessity. The problem is, food does not magically appear in our hands so we can eat. Someone has to hunt the food, grow the food, harvest the food, and prepare the food. We are commanded to be a part of the process that makes food available by exerting effort. Work is
therefore necessary to sustain life. This is even more critical for the spiritual life.

Read 2 Thessalonians 3:10

"For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: 'If a man will not work, he shall not eat.'" (NIV)

"For even when we were with you, this we commanded you,
that if any would not work, neither should he eat." (KJV)

PEACE OF MIND

To be kept by God during difficult times and even good times is such a comfort. In His grace and mercy, He keeps us with more than adequate peace, it is with perfect peace. This is for those whose minds are supported by confidence and trust in Him at all times.

Read Isaiah 26:3

"You will keep in perfect peace him who mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you."

GOD'S STRENGTH

There is no strength within us that does not come from the Lord. He is our only source of strength. His strength allows us to accomplish things we never thought possible.

Read Habakkuk 3:19

The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights."

When we are truly born again we are overcomers of this world, because we are His children and He overcame the world. By faith in Him, He leads us to victory.

Read 1 John 5:4

"..for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith."

ALL THINGS WORK FOR GOOD

God does not make all things good for us as believers. We still experience trials and sufferings. But he does make the things that we experience work together for our ultimate good. What is that ultimate good? That He will bring us to Himself a holy and righteous people.

Read Romans 8:28

"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose."

RID OF THE OLD LIFE

The Word of God is clear about getting rid of all remnants of the old life. This includes attitudes of the heart, such as: unholy ill will, intentional dishonesty, false spiritual appearances, resentful jealousy, and malicious gossip. These things linger and will surface if we do not make a clean
break with out life as it was before we accepted Christ.

Read 1 Peter 2:1

"Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind."

RESISTING EVIL

To be able to stand firm against the deceitful enemy and his attacks, we are to hold fast to our faith, which comes from hearing the Word and hiding it in our hearts. We are not alone in resisting evil. All Christians everywhere are experiencing the same struggles.

Read 1 Peter 5:9

"Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings."

As Christians we are to always be watchful and on the alert to the deception that surrounds us with well hidden traps. The deceiver is the evil one and seeks to get us off the true path in these ways: Subtly, through our senses and thoughts; Masquerading as the truth with logical spiritual and religious philosophies; and, Forcefully, through tribulations and trials that discourage us and cause us to
question our Lord. Watch out for these traps, they are everywhere.

Read 1 Peter 5:8

"Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour."

ANXIETY FREE

If we really believe by faith that God truly loves and cares for us, there will be no reason to worry and become stressed about ourselves and the things of this world.

Read 1 Peter 5:7

"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

THE BATTLE IS NOT YOURS

The Lord doesn't need our help to fight our battles. In fact, they are not our
battles anyway. The Lord says they are His. He only wants us to trust Him to
take care of the battles.

Read 2 Chronicles 20:15

"He said: 'Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem!
This is what the Lord says to you: 'Do not be afraid or discouraged because of
this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's.'"

OVERCOME EVIL

To follow the unique Christian principle of showing love to those who injure and oppose us for our faith is to disarm them of their ungodly ways. In the process, they may be persuaded to abandon those evil ways, because love is greater than any existing force.

Read Romans 12:21

"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good."

YOUR TROUBLES HIS TROUBLES

If we are suffering from troubles and problems because of our own choices (doing things our own way), we have no one to blame but ourselves. When we suffer because of our faithful service to the Lord, He is there to share in the victory He won for us at the cross.

Read John 16:33

"I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
