FROM ANOTHER PLACE

Philippians 3:20

"But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ." ESV

Sometimes we forget that this world is neither our home nor our destination. We are here in the enemy's territory, waiting for our Lord. Our attitude toward and our response to this world makes the difference between a joyful heart and a heavy, defeated heart.

Lord, forgive us for forgetting that this world is not our home. Help us remember each day that we are merely passing through this place and are eternal citizens of Your kingdom. In Your name we pray, Amen.

EXPOSING A HYPOCRITE

Matthew 5:20

"For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven." ESV

Some people can look so virtuous and devoted as Christians on the outside, while in their hearts, they are full of selfishness, bad attitudes, and ungodly intentions. The thing is, one cannot be a Christian on the outside without the true inner things of the heart coming out in their outward lives. On the other hand, one cannot be a true committed Christian in the inner heart without it radiating out to others at any time or any place. It is pretty hard to tell the true from the fake. We don't want to be hypocrites, but to be true lights with our inward hearts radiating out to a lost and dying world. So, we will not only wash our hands, but our hearts too.

Heavenly Father, we pray that you would show us our hearts and to rid our inner selves of anything that is displeasing and inconsistent with the way we live on the outside. Give us clean hearts we pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

NO DISAPPOINTMENT HERE

Psalm 43:3

"Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me; let them bring me to your holy hill and to your dwelling!" ESV

As Christians, our prayer is that the Lord will light the path of truth so that we can follow it, no matter how difficult so that we can be with Him. This path is rough, narrow, and lonely. But those who follow it will never be disappointed.

Heavenly Father, forgive us when we see the path, but our selfish nature goes another way. Give us overcoming desire to follow the path on which You have graciously shed Your light. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.

LISTEN AND LIVE

Revelation 2:7

"He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God." ESV

Salvation is the free gift of God through faith in Christ Jesus. However, it is our walk through this world of time on earth that shows whether we have truly accepted that free gift. If we overcome the obstacles and trials lying in our path, we will be counted as the true believers and live forever with Him.

Heavenly Father, how we stand in need of Your forgiveness for allowing ourselves to be overcome by the things of this world. We pray for the fullness of Your Holy Spirit that we will be armed and ready to overcome whatever this world puts in our way. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

WE AIN'T SEEN NOTHIN' YET

Romans 8:18

"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us." ESV

Suffering comes to all at one time or another. Some go through much more suffering than others. Some believe they are suffering horribly until they see others much worse off than themselves. Then there are some that suffer and live above the suffering so that others have no idea. Whatever the type or intensity of the suffering, it will fade away into nothing and be forgotten forever when we see the wonderful things God has for us who believe.

Heavenly Father, we confess that we complain and grumble when we are suffering in one way or another. Forgive us for focusing on the suffering, that will totally pass away, and help us to stay fixed on the glory You have waiting for us with You in heaven. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

NO PASSING AWAY

Mark 13:31

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away." ESV

In the beginning God said, "Let there be light." No one will argue that there is still light shining, the sun, moon, and stars. There will be no need for those created lights in eternity, because Christ will be the bright and shining light for ever and ever. Those words God spoke in the beginning will never pass away. Every word spoken by Him throughout time, the living Word of God will continue on and on, never ending.

Heavenly Father, how we praise and honor You for the Word You have given us. We thank You that we can stand on every Word uttered by You. Help us to be open and willing to accept Your Word that never passes away. Increase our hunger to be lights in this world and bow in the light of Your presence for eternity. In Jesus' name, Amen.

LOOK UP

"Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth." ESV

Because we live in the now and there are many things that grab our attention, it is easy to lose sight of the things that will matter for all eternity. If we keep our minds on eternal things, the distractions of this temporary world will not only pale in comparison, but will take their rightful place in God's eternal plan. This will give us peace and tolerance as we walk through this life.

Heavenly Father, we pray for Your grace and mercy so that we will keep bringing our minds back to the eternal things and stop focusing on the things of this world, that are temporal. We ask in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

OUR TROUBLES WILL BE WORTH IT

2 Corinthians 4:17

"For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all." NIV

"For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory." KJV

What is one of the first things we are apt do when trouble comes our way? We react in a number of negative ways. We complain or go all the way into total anger and resentment. Have we forgotten that we live in a cursed world? A world that is full of troubles and tragedy and there is no respecter of persons. It rains on the just and the unjust. As Christians, our faith should be such that we are reminded in difficult times that this is the way of suffering, we all pass this way, and all the while our Lord is with us. The greatest thing to remember is that these problems are only temporary. If we stand strong in the Lord, the glorious eternity we will experience will erase any bad thing this world caused us.

Heavenly Father, we just praise and worship Your holy name that You have prepared for us eternal perfection with You. Forgive us for forgetting that when trouble comes to us. Fill us with the comfort and peace of the Holy Spirit during difficult times. And help us look up, knowing what is waiting for us. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

GIVING ALL

It is such an amazing thing when we get hold of the fact that
the Son of God actually left His throne in Heaven and became a
human being. Even more amazing, He gave all He had, Himself,
because of His love, mercy, and grace that would show us the
Way to the One true God. When we take time to dwell on that, it
seems like such a small thing that we would turn our total selves
over to Him. But, that is all we have to give Him.

Read John 1:14

"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have
seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the
Father, full of grace and truth." (NIV)

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we
beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father)
full of grace and truth." (KJV)

IF YOU SEE HIM, YOU SEE THE FATHER

In early times, God spoke to His people through the prophets, men chosen and anointed to speak His truth. Jesus Christ was far superior to the prophets because He is the perfect representative of God the Father. Our God sent His Son to represent Himself so that we might know Him and become like Him. Jesus Christ successfully completed this mission for the Father to reconcile us and He sits with the Father interceding for us.

Read Hebrews 1:3

"The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven." (NIV)

"Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high." (KJV)
