THEY TOLD US EVERYTHING ABOUT HIM

Luke 24:44

Then He said to them, "These are my words that I spoke to you while I was still with you, that everything written about me in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms must be fulfilled." ESV

The Old Testament was written over a period of 1000 years and written hundreds of years before Christ came to earth as a man. It contains hundreds of prophesies concerning the coming Messiah, all of which were fulfilled by Jesus Christ.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Word that reveals Truth and gives us blessed assurance that You made the way for us to reconciled to You through Jesus Christ. In His name we pray, Amen.

USE A MAGNFYING GLASS

1 Timothy 4:16

"Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers." ESV

It is way too easy to let up our guard and when we do, we become vulnerable, opening ourselves up to worldly thoughts and ways. This way of the world seems so right at the time, but it definitely isn't. It weakens our spiritual lives, making us ineffective in our testimony, and losing that anointing that drew others to Christ through us. That's why we are strongly warned to keep a close watch, using our spiritual magnifying glasses, so we will stay strong, persistent, and influencing others to do the same.

Heavenly Father, You know we are but dust. We sleep when You tell us to be alert. Forgive us for letting down our guard and letting ourselves become open to the evils of this world. We ask for a fresh anointing of the Holy Spirit and the hunger to stay focused on the things that are eternal. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.

GOD BREATHED

2 Timothy 3:16

"All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." NIV

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." KJV

The authority of scripture is being highly questioned in today's world. Non-Christians and even so called Christians believe the Bible to be a book written by men, in their own words and their own thoughts. This is a dangerous belief that is gaining a foothold in our society. As Christians, we know that the Word of God is true and the God Himself chose men of holy character to reveal His words so they could write them down for us to study, to know Him, and to live holy lives. If we allow any person or thought to allow us to discredit the reality of the Word as God breathed, we will be deceived and begin living in error like the world does. God's Word is true, eternal, and holy. We can stand on it forever.

Heavenly Father, help us to reject the world's idea of Your Holy Word. Increase our faith as we look to the scriptures for answers to this life and how to live. We thank You for giving us Your Word and pray that we hide it deep in our hearts so that we become holy. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

UNFOLDING

Psalm 119:130

"The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple." NIV

"The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple." KJV

When we unfold a tablecloth, we take each fold and open it up. Layer after layer, we carefully lay each layer out flat until the whole piece of cloth is opened and the shape and pattern are revealed. Are we this careful when we read the Word of God, when we listen to the Word of God? Or do we just look at a compact square of folded cloth, that unless it is unfolded, it cannot be used. If we go inside of the words God has given us to grow and mature, we will find precious treasures of God's knowledge and wisdom. He longs for us to hunger for His Word.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for taking the Word of God for granted. Forgive us for failing to get into Your Word on a regular basis or even neglecting it. Put a burning hunger in our hearts to unfold and enter in to Your Word. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so we will have the light of understanding and we will grow in Christ. In His name we pray, Amen.

KEEP IT AND THINK ABOUT IT

Luke 2:19

"But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart." NIV

"But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart." KJV

There are many times we hear discussion about spiritual things and the things of God. We watch and listen to the Word being interpreted by different sources and sects. When we are learned in the Word of God and we are full of the Holy Spirit, we will take in the ideas and words we hear, and after thinking about them, we will discern that which is truth and that which is false. When we become spiritually aware of the truth of God, we will hold it in our hearts and think deeply on it. This is the way we grow and mature in our walk with God.

Heavenly Father, how we thank You that You allow us access to Your Truth. Help us to be discerning and to ponder Your Truth so that we will grow in faith and in wisdom of You and the plan You have for our lives. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

WAITING WITH HOPE

Psalm 119:114

"You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word." NIV

"Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word." KJV

Where do we go when life has dealt us a terrible blow? How do we cope with the trial that is set before us? What are we to do, when we don't know what to do? We wait. We wait under the wings of our God, our strong tower, our refuge. We wait there for the promise He has given us through His Word. His Word is sure and will never fail us. We wait with praise and thanksgiving for what He is doing and for what He will do for us.

Heavenly Father, we confess that we become distraught and discouraged when we cannot fix the problems facing us in our lives. We try to run ahead and take care of them ourselves only to find dead ends. Help us to rest in Your shadow, in Your loving arms, waiting for You to accomplish Your purpose in Your time. Give us assurance that it will be well with our souls and unending joy and peace are coming. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

WHO'S READY FOR MEAT?

Hebrews 5:14

"But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil." NIV

"But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil." KJV

The natural order of growth for human development is to steadily gain in height and weight while at the same time learning different things. It takes food that is appropriate for age and advancement of the child. The same hold true for the born again children of God. Many Christians accept the Lord Jesus as their Saviour but they fail to get into the Word of God and make it a part of their everyday lives and they fail to faithfully commune with Him on a daily basis. They are not able to spiritually chew and digest the deep things of God, only the milk and elementary things of God. The answer is to take responsibility for working out our salvation, for hiding the Word in our heart, and growing up in Him.

Heavenly Father, we stand in need of Your grace and mercy as we work out our salvation in the way You intended. Help us to receiveYour Word and by it grow into mature Christians. Show us the way and give us the desire to grow and surrender so that we will be ready for spiritual meat, the deep things of Your kingdom. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

GOT GOD?

2 John 1:9

"Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son." NIV

"Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son." KJV

How many of us get so caught up in the things that are happening in our daily lives that we fail to let the Word of God rule our hearts? Instead, we try to help God out or just take matters into our own hands. When we do that we show that we do not trust God, nor are we walking in the Spirit of God. If we get involved wholeheartedly in the Word of God and walk according to it's ways, we will find our lives much more peaceful and encouraged. Knowing God is in control and His timing and ways of working things out are the only way to true communion and peace with Him.

Heavenly Father, forgive us when we try to take care of our issues and problems in our own inadequate ways. We long to continue in Your Word and walk in the ways It teaches. Help us to stay in communion with You so that we will stand on Your Word, strong and ready to let You complete Your work in us and for us. In Christ's name we pray, Amen.

HIDDEN PROTECTION

Psalm 119:11

"I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." NIV

"Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee." KJV

There are many people who have learned the Bible and can quote many passages and scripture. Too often, their use of scripture is from a sense of responsibility or to show others how learned they are in the Bible. If we do not take what we learn from the Word and bury it within our hearts until we are saturated with it, we will be in danger of sinning against God. A heart that is filled with God's Word is sufficiently protected from giving in to sin.

Heavenly Father, we ask You to give us more hunger for Your Word and to allow it to fill our hearts. Show us how to use Your Word to protect us from sin and the evil one. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

THE ANSWER IS COMING

Habakkuk 2:3

"For the revelation awaits an appointed time; it speaks of the end and will not prove false. Though it linger, wait for it; it will certainly come and will not delay." NIV

"For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie; though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry." KJV

We pray for specific things to happen in our lives and the answer does not seem to come. As a result, we lose heart, or we question whether God heard us. If we forget that God's timing is so very different from ours, we get frustrated that He is not working on our time schedule. Whatever it is we are believing God for and are waiting upon the answer, be certain that it will come to pass. Believe that it is because His Word is certain and will not return to him empty of His purpose.

Heavenly Father, we are sorry that we get impatient and expect You to work things out on our time schedule and in our own ways. Give us the ability to use the measure of faith You have given us to wait for the answer that You promised would come. And help us to use our time wisely while we wait. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

DON'T JUST LISTEN! TAKE ACTION!

James 1:22

"Do not merely listen to the word, and deceive yourselves. Do what it says." NIV

"But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves." KJV

There are many Christians who spend much time studying the scriptures and learning as much as they can about God's Word. While that is a good thing to do, it sometimes causes a dangerous problem. We become so learned in the scriptures that we go around quoting and teaching what the Word says, but we fail to put it into practice. Knowledge of the Word only makes us proud. Living the Word in our daily lives and actively walking in obedience to the Word makes us like Christ.

Heavenly Father, we ask You to forgive us for merely reading Your Word and failing to put it into practice as You have told us to do. Give us power through the Holy Spirit to live, walk, and breathe the Word of God because it is living and active. We should be as well. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

HIS ETERNAL WORD

Matthew 24:35

"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away." NIV

"Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away." KJV

It's pretty well understood that the things of this world are temporary. But we do get involved with people and people make promises. We deal with businesses who guarantee their products. But there are always betrayals and change of plans that disappoint and create mistrust. There is one sure thing we can count on even when we feel all is lost. It is the Word of God. What He said will never betray us, or change in any way, or leave us. We can forever have hope and trust that His Word stands forevermore.

Heavenly Father, we give You thanks and praise for Your eternal Word. There is nothing in this world we can count on. Give us a greater hunger for Your Word, so that it will abide in us while we are waiting for Your return. In His name we pray, Amen.

ALL SCRIPTURE

The words in the Bible came from the very breathe of God. They are God, Himself, speaking to us. From His words we learn what we are to believe, to know what is the truth, to correct things in our lives that are not God's will, and to teach others about God. The Holy Bible is our life manual.

Heavenly Father, we praise you and thank you for giving us your Word, so that we can have a guidebook to help ourselves and others to live our lives here on earth. In Jesus' name.

Read 2 Itmothy 3:16

"All Scripture is God breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness." (NIV)

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness." (KJV)

SHALLOWNESS

Saving faith in Christ is so much more than giving mental agreement to a belief. Giving mental agreement is much the same as "good intentions" or planting seeds on rocky soil. When that kind of faith is tested it fades and withers away. If the seed of salvation was planted in us on rocky soil, it will wash away in a very short time. That does not mean we were saved for a little while, then lost it. It means we were never really saved at all. We must be ready with good soil and open hearts, to receive from God.

Heavenly Father, we pray for spiritual soil that is ready to accept the seed You sow; that we might be fruitful children of God. We pray for those we encounter, that the rocks be removed so they can accept the seeds of true salvation. In Jesus' name.

Read Luke 8:13

"Those on the rock are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away." (NIV)

"They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away." (KJV)

BY HIS SPIRIT

The Lord's Church will be preserved and prepared for eternity with
Christ. This will not and cannot be done by any strength of any person
or group of people. Nor can it ever be done by great leaders or those
in authority and places of dignity and respect. There are some who
believe that it can be accomplished in these ways. The victory of the
Church will be accomplished only by the Spirit of the living God.

Heavenly Father, we ask for the fullness of your Spirit in our lives that
we may be a part of your great plan for your Church. We acknowledge
there is no other way for the Church to survive but by your Spirit. In
Jesus' name.

Read Zechariah 4:6

"So he said to me, 'This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: 'Not
by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,' says the Lord Almighty."
(NIV)

"Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the
LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my
spirit, saith the LORD of hosts." (KJV)

FEAR IN PERSPECTIVE

If we were to take a stroll down a country road and a lion appeared from
the side of the road with a loud roar, we would certainly react with fear
and motivation to move. When God Almighty, who created the lion, speaks to us, how much more should we fear and be motivated to tell others what He has said?

Heavenly Father, we ask that you restore to us discerning ears, committed hearts, and readiness to hear from you. Then we will be moved to tell others Your words. In Jesus' name.

Read Amos 3:8

"The lion has roared--who will not fear? The Sovereign Lord has spoken--who can but prophecy?" (NIV)

"The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord GOD hath spoken, who can but prophesy?" (KJV)

WHAT GOD RESPECTS

The most elaborate and ornate churches, temples, and shrines are only
impressive to the human senses. God is not impressed with them at all.
After all, He made the awesome universe. What gets God's attention as
the most beautiful temple is the individual that is humble in spirit. One
who grieves the sin in this world and gives total respect to the things of
God.

Read Isaiah 66:2

"'Has not my hand made all these things, and so they came into being?'
declares the Lord. 'This is the one I esteem: he who is humble and
contrite in spirit, and trembles at My word.'" (NIV)

"For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have
been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is
poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word." (KJV)

WATCH & PERSEVERE

We are often vulnerable to opening ourselves up to worldly ideas
and actions that seem right at the time, but they are not all right.
They weaken our spiritual holiness and faith. If that happens, we
become ineffective in our testimony, losing that anointing that drew
others to Christ through us. That's why we are strongly warned to be
alert and persevere in our faith.

Read 1 Timothy 4:16

"Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because
if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers." (NIV)

"Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them:
for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear
thee." (KJV)

GIVING ALL

It is such an amazing thing when we get hold of the fact that
the Son of God actually left His throne in Heaven and became a
human being. Even more amazing, He gave all He had, Himself,
because of His love, mercy, and grace that would show us the
Way to the One true God. When we take time to dwell on that, it
seems like such a small thing that we would turn our total selves
over to Him. But, that is all we have to give Him.

Read John 1:14

"The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have
seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the
Father, full of grace and truth." (NIV)

"And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we
beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father)
full of grace and truth." (KJV)

OPEN AND CLOSED DOORS

It is God who opens and closes the doors in our lives. We can bring
our requests to Him and sit at a closed door. Or we can keep going
doing what He has asked of us, and we will find an open door He has
provided for us. He knows what we need and will provide it. Remember
He is in control.

Read Revelation 3:7

"To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words
of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens
no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open." (NIV)

"And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things
saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David,
he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man
openeth." (KJV)
