"Therefore
we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest
at any time we should let them slip." KJV
How many of us are
like a bucket with a hole in it or a barrel with cracks between the staves? The
Word of God repeatedly tells us to be alert, be on guard. If we become
comfortable in our spiritual experience, we are in danger of complacency (being
satisfied and unaware of danger), and the spiritual maturity and strength we
have received will seep out of us like the bucket with a hole in it. That is a
dangerous place to be. It will reveal the true child of God from the
imitation.
Heavenly Father,
forgive us for letting our guard down. Heal the holes and cracks in our
spiritual lives so that we will be true children of Your Kingdom. Give us
attentive hearts and make us strong so we can help others do the same. We pray
in Jesus' name, Amen.

BUILD STRONG MUSCLES ONE WAY
Habakkuk 3:19
The Sovereign Lord is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a
deer, he enables me to go on the
heights." NIV
"The Lord is my strength,
and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine
high places." KJV
There is strength within us that does come from the Lord. There
is strength within us that comes from ourselves or from the evil one. Because
our God is omnipotent (all powerful), any other strength is subject to His
strength. He is our only source of strength
that will serve us for good. His strength allows us to accomplish wonderful
things we never thought possible. We can
choose the source of our power. If we choose the sovereign strength of the Lord,
we will rejoice for eternity. If we choose to continue in our own strength or
allow the evil one to deceive us with his power, we will never know eternal
peace and joy.
Heavenly Father, how we praise You that You are the all powerful God.
Keep us under Your mighty hands that we will be vessels of Your power to glorify
You. Keep us from being deceived into using our own power or being used by the
enemy, even though if "feels" right. Give us discernment and help us walk in
Your power. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

WE REFLECT THE COMPANY WE KEEP
Proverbs
13:20
"Walk with
the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm."
NIV
"He that
walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be
destroyed." KJV
Our moral
character will always be a reflection of the company we keep. The way we talk is
one of the first ways others can tell the kinds of people with whom we
associate. Is our speech clean, uplifting, and positive or is it sprinkled with
negative, unclean, degrading words that would make Christ flinch? Our attitude
shows whether we speak or not. Remember, body language speaks volumes. Our
natural way is to be attracted to people with whom we feel comfortable, or who
make us feel better about ourselves. These are not always the best people with
whom to associate, for they may be fools (weak minded, lacking good judgment,
followers). The true Christian seeks to associate with those who are wise in the
things of God and wise to the ways of the world. They are those who help us
steer away from foolish things that will drag us down, and help us stay on the
path that makes us wise. Who do we spend our time with as companions and
friends? We will speak and act like them.
Heavenly Father,
we ask that You would show us where we are in regards to our friends and
associates. Help us to put ourselves in the company of wise and Godly people and
stay distanced from fools and morally impaired people. Give us hunger to be more
Christlike and not worldly. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

LIGHT TO SEE HIS GLORY
2
Corinthians 4:6
"For God, who said, 'Let light shine out of darkness,' made his light
shine in our hearts to give us the
light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ." NIV
"For God, who commanded
the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light
of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ."
KJV
God
spoke light into existence at the beginning of creation. That light continues on
into eternity. He puts that same light into
our hearts so that we can see the truth about Christ, who is the reflection of God's glory. The light He spoke into
existence, He placed within us, so that we could see His Son, believe in Him,
and have eternal life. What an awesome God.
Heavenly Father,
we give You praise and glory for Your unfathomable light that goes forth through
eternity and brings us the knowledge of our Lord. Help us to stay in the light
so that we will continue to grow in Him and become more like Him. In Jesus' name
we pray, Amen.

KNOW HIM AS HE KNOWS US
John
10:14
"I am the
good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me." NIV
"I am the
good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine." KJV
A newborn baby
learns it's mother's voice before it learns anything else. We recognize our
loved ones by being familiar with them and their ways. We can only become
familiar and know our Lord Jesus Christ when we spend time with Him and get to
know Him in an intimate way. If we fail to do this, we will be deceived by
others who seem to have the right answers. Only Jesus Christ will get us to
eternal life, through Him. And that is only by knowing His voice and following
only Him.
Heavenly
Father, give us the hunger to make ourselves available to have communion with
You so that we have intimate knowledge of You. Keep us aware of other voices in
the world that sound good, but lead to destruction. Help us to hear and know
Your voice so that we can be with You for eternity. In Jesus' name,
Amen.

OBEDIENCE AND SACRIFICE
1
Samuel 15:22
"Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in
obeying the voice of the Lord? To
obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams." NIV
"Hath the Lord as great
delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams."

When
performing outward good works becomes more important than the inward obedient attitude, God becomes displeased. It is
a sacrifice of time and energy to volunteer to
clean the church, but it is a greater spiritual work to bring all of your thoughts captive to Christ. Make this
more important in your life without neglecting
the good works.
Heavenly Father,
forgive us for thinking our attendance at church, our reading our Bibles, and
involving ourselves in Christian activities are what we need to do to please
You. Help us to understand and begin living out obedience to Your Word that is
more pleasing to You than anything. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

OVERCOMING
1 John
5:4

everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome
the world, even our faith." NIV
"For
whosoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that
overcometh the world, even our faith." KJV
The natural man
works to overcome the world by common sense, learned behavior, and knowledge
gained from the world. Sometimes this works, but for the most part it is
temporary and incomplete at best. True faith in the Son of God by salvation in
Christ will provide us with all we need to overcome the obstacles in this world.
Without faith, we cannot be successful overcomers.
Heavenly Father,
how we stand humble before you that we have tried to defeat the trials in this
world by our own strength. Forgive us. Help us to use the faith You have
lavishly supplied to us so that we can overcome this world as You did. We praise
You and thank You for the gift of faith and overcoming power. In Jesus' name we
pray, Amen.
