NO BIG DEAL?

Isaiah 57:11

"Whom did you dread and fear, so that you lied, and did not remember me, did not lay it to heart? Have I not held my peace, even for a long time, and you do not fear me?"

It may seem that God is silent, sitting way up in the sky, taking it easy, just loving everyone and being all right with whatever they do. Wake up! God is very watchful and waiting for as many who will, to come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. God sees that some of us have become lazy in our Christian lives, shirking responsibilities, compromising with the world, and becoming diluted in our faith. God will not remain silent. He will call us to give an account by using the standards He set for us through Jesus Christ.

Heavenly Father, we bow on our faces in humility and desperate need for Your forgiveness of our complacency as Christians. Give us that discernment we need to sense the urgency of Your return and how we need to reach everyone we can with the Gospel. We pray in the blessed name of Jesus, Amen.

BUCKETS WITH HOLES

Hebrews 2:1

"We must pay the most careful attention, therefore, to what we have heard, so that we do not drift away." NIV

"Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip." KJV

How many of us are like a bucket with a hole in it or a barrel with cracks between the staves? The Word of God repeatedly tells us to be alert, be on guard. If we become comfortable in our spiritual experience, we are in danger of complacency (being satisfied and unaware of danger), and the spiritual maturity and strength we have received will seep out of us like the bucket with a hole in it. That is a dangerous place to be. It will reveal the true child of God from the imitation.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for letting our guard down. Heal the holes and cracks in our spiritual lives so that we will be true children of Your Kingdom. Give us attentive hearts and make us strong so we can help others do the same. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

TELL US WHAT WE WANT TO HEAR

2 Timothy 4:3

"For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear."NIV

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears."KJV

When the truth steps on our toes, it hurts and we tend to step away or try to explain away why it does not apply to us. If we listen to the truth, we may have to give up some habit or possession. We might have to change our comfortable lives in some way. This is all just too hard, too inconvenient. So instead, we choose to follow so called Christian leaders who gloss over the truth and tell us things that make our comfortable lives stay comfortable. The danger here is that we will think we are growing spiritually when we are only growing more comfortable in our sinful lives. The truth may hurt and disrupt our lives, but it will set us free to grow in Christ and reap an abundant harvest for His kingdom. Most important, following the truth will grant us to stand before our Lord, hearing Him say, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

Heavenly Father, we really do like being in our comfort zone. But we know that the truth will take us out of that zone and into Your will for our lives. Give us the courage and desire to listen and respond to the truth, so that we will grow and be pleasing to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

WORK OUT WITH FEAR AND TREMBLING

Philippians 2:12,13

" . . .continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose."NIV

" . . .work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure."KJV

Why would we have to work out our salvation? And why would we have to do it with fear and trembling? Weren't we saved when Christ gave His life on the cross? Of course Christ's death and resurrection gave us the way to God. And yes, our faith in that assures our salvation. But, are we always aware of the spiritual warfare that exists to steal our soul and how subtle it is? Knowing we are saved does not mean we can become lazy and complacent Christians. There is an enemy roaming around seeking someone to devour.

Heavenly Father, how thankful we are for the salvation Jesus Christ made possible for us at the cross. Give us wisdom and awareness so that we can stand firm to the end so that we are not deceived by the enemy. In Jesus' name, Amen.

INDIFFERENCE

Many were called and invited to the wedding feast, a gracious invitation
to a very important occasion. It wasn't that they could not come. They
didn't feel it was that important. They even laughed at the invitation as
though the feast was made out to be a bigger event than it really was.
Because of their indifference and self-centered lives, they missed the
most important event of their lives. People do this with the Gospel when they are invited to accept Jesus Christ. And because they are indifferent or disinterested, they lose out on eternal life.

Heavenly Father, we ask you to open our hearts and minds to the importance of the things of God. Anoint us as we present the Gospel and prepare the hearts of those who receive so that they will not be indifferent. In Jesus' name.

Read Matthew 22:5

"But they paid no attention and went off--one to his field, another to his business." (NIV)

"But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise." (KJV)

COMPLACENCY

Be alert! It may seem that God is silent, that He is sitting back, looking
away. But He sees that we have become lazy in our responsibilities as
Christians, compromising our faith, and allowing our beliefs to become
diluted with deceitful beliefs of this world. He will not remain silent. He
will call us to give an account using the standards He set for us not our
own standards or the standards of the world.

Read Isaiah 57:11

"Whom have you so dreaded and feared that you have been false to me,
and have neither remembered me nor pondered this in your hearts? Is it
not because I have long been silent that you do not fear me? (NIV)

"And of whom hast thou been afraid or feared, that thou hast lied, and hast not remembered me, nor laid it to thy heart? Have not I held my peace even of old, and thou fearest me not?" (KJV)
