WHAT DID YOU SAY?

2 Peter 1:21

"For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit." ESV

So many prophets out there, we know that some of them are true prophets of God and some are false prophets. The false prophets are beautiful people, who say lovely things that make us feel good. People flock to them, paying money and driving long distances to hear what they have to say. True prophets of God speak only those words the Holy Spirit puts within them. Some of their words will bring joy and comfort. Some of them will sting our hearts and convict us. Those who don't really want to know the truth will close their ears and walk away. That's what they did to Jesus when He spoke the truth He heard from the Father.

Heavenly Father, we live in a world that craves feeling good and being self-satisfied. Help us to recognize those people who say they are proclaiming Your Word, but are only trying to win the approval of others. We long for Your Truth. Give us willing ears. In Jesus' name, Amen.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

Psalm 9:10

"And those who know your name put their trust in you, for you, O Lord, have not forsaken those who seek you." ESV

What's in a name? Searching and studying the names of God, it is amazing how many names man has given to God to describe Him. When God revealed Himself, He was given the name that reflected His action at that time. God revealed His true name to Moses at the burning bush: I AM. The more we know God and His attributes that are revealed in His names, the more we will trust Him. The greatest power of faith is knowing Him as I AM!

Heavenly Father, we praise You because You are the true God, the great I AM. Thank You for revealing Yourself to us through Your mighty works of long ago, today, and everyday. We ask that You would give us the desire to know You more so that our trust in You will increase. We pray in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

WALKING IS THE ULTIMATE ACTION

1 John 2:6

"Whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked." ESV

In today's world, a Christian is accepted to be anyone who claims to be, or who says they believe in God. Satan believes in God and certainly knows Jesus Christ, but he is no Christian! Many call themselves Christians, but their lives do not even have a hint that they are children of God. We claim to be Christians, and if we are, the fruit of the Spirit and the light and love of Jesus Christ will be evident to all who come near us. We cannot just claim it! We must live it!

Heavenly Father, we praise You for grace and mercy to us. We thank You that You made the Way for us to become Your children. Our desire is to walk as Jesus walked, so that we bring glory and honor to Your name. We put our faith in You to help us. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

HOW GREAT?

2 Samuel 22:36,37

"You have given me the shield of your salvation, and your gentleness made me great. You gave a wide place for my steps under me, and my feet did not slip." ESV

Do we really understand all that is ours because of Jesus Christ? Because He conquered death, hell, and the grave, we have freedom to access the shield of faith that insures victory. Do we realize the vastness of His grace? We can journey all of our lives, and He will keep us from falling. Do we realize what a mighty God we serve?

Heavenly Father, how blessed and honored we are to serve You, our God who loves us so much that You gave all and You keep giving. Forgive us for our complacency. Give us the hunger to know just how great and powerful You are and the precious gifts You make available for our asking. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.

IN THE KNOW

1 John 5:20

"And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life." ESV

We all know the feel of a soft warm bed when our tired and aching bodies are nestled there. It's a peaceful, familiar place of comfort and rest. Do we know what it is like to be in Christ? So vastly far above anything we can experience in this world, being in Christ places us in full access to the Son, who reveals all things about the Father. It is in Him we find Truth. If we are already there, we can bask in it. If we need to be there, we can ask for it.

Heavenly Father, we desire to be in You, where there is peace, comfort, rest, and most of all Truth. Transform our hearts and minds so that we will be surrounded by You, and so that we will work to bring others into Your Truth. In Christ's name we pray, Amen.

WHAT'S HIDING IN YOUR HEART?

Proverbs 28:13

"Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy." ESV

It's human nature to want to hide those things we know are sin. We work increasingly hard to keep these things private so others will not find us out. But, this keeps us stuck in our spiritual walk with Christ and we sit guilt ridden, with fear of exposure, and physically ill from the pressure of carrying hidden sin. We cannot hide our sin from God. But we can be set free from the burden of sin by stopping it, approaching God, and confessing our sin to Him. With His loving forgiveness, He will shower us with His mercy.

Heavenly Father, we rejoice that You are always ready to forgive us when we come to You confessing and repenting of our sin. Give us courage, insight, and strength to face our own sins, so that by Your mercy, there will be nothing standing in the way of our spiritual prosperity. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

WORKING RIGHT

Ephesians 6:7

"Rendering service with a good will as to the Lord and not to man." ESV

How many of us have lost our enthusiasm to the point we do our work with barely adequate quality and an attitude of "just get the job done?" Have we forgotten that the Lord sees our hearts and the effort we exert. When we work, whatever it may be, let it be a work of praise to our God, who enables us to even breathe. We work for Him, not for people.

Heavenly Father, we praise You that You have given us the ability to work and to provide the way to meet our daily needs. Please help us to remember that You are the One we are serving, not companies or humans. Give us enthusiasm to work as we remember it is all for You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
