WHO IS WISE IN THIS WORLD?

James 3:13

"Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom." ESV

There are many self proclaimed teachers who speak with great eloquence and convincing words. God's word says it takes more responsibility for a teacher called by Him. There must be not only evidence of wisdom and knowledge through speech, but wisdom that is evident in holy living every day. Wisdom, humility, and righteous living identifies the true teachers of God.

Lord, we thank You that You have called some of us to be teachers that can be used to bring others to a deeper faith in You. Help us Lord to discern those who are truly called by You. We pray in Your name, Amen.

NO DIY HERE (DO IT YOURSELF)

Proverbs 3:5,6

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths." ESV

We may have an idea of where we want to go, but we will not get there by relying on our own plans. Neither will we get there by seeking advice from people or books. The only way we will get to where we need to be is by fully trusting in the Lord. He is faithful to get us to the right place at the right time in the right way.

Heavenly Father, we are guilty of taking life matters into our own hands. Somehow we feel safer and more in control if we just do it ourselves. Help us to be aware when we think like this. Help us to use our faith to trust You fully to take us in the right direction. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.

IN THE KNOW

1 John 5:20

"And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life." ESV

We all know the feel of a soft warm bed when our tired and aching bodies are nestled there. It's a peaceful, familiar place of comfort and rest. Do we know what it is like to be in Christ? So vastly far above anything we can experience in this world, being in Christ places us in full access to the Son, who reveals all things about the Father. It is in Him we find Truth. If we are already there, we can bask in it. If we need to be there, we can ask for it.

Heavenly Father, we desire to be in You, where there is peace, comfort, rest, and most of all Truth. Transform our hearts and minds so that we will be surrounded by You, and so that we will work to bring others into Your Truth. In Christ's name we pray, Amen.

LET THERE BE LIGHT

  Psalm 119:130
"The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple." ESV

When the sun slowly rises in the early morning, it's light begins to spread out and all things become more clearly seen. It is the same with the Word of God, which is light. As we read, study, and practice it, we begin to see things more and more clearly as we let the Word rise in our hearts.

Heavenly Father, how thankful we are that we have Your Word so that we are able to see and understand You and Your kingdom more clearly. Help us to take Your Words into our hearts to light the way we need to take to get to You. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

CRITICAL PARTNERS

Job 28:28

"And he said to man, 'Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to turn away from evil is understanding.'" ESV

Sin came because doing things our way was more desirable than God's wisdom. The consequence was our separation from God. Being in reverent awe and respect of God is the doorway to wisdom. It is then, we will be listening and being obedient to Him. Then we will become more and more separated from evil and closer to the place where we can see and understand the Truth.

Heavenly Father, we recognize that we are born in sin. Give us an increased hunger to follow You in Your wisdom rather than our own way of thinking. Fill us with the Holy Spirit who will lead us to understanding of the Truth and far away from evil. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.

UNFOLDING

Psalm 119:130

"The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple." NIV

"The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple." KJV

When we unfold a tablecloth, we take each fold and open it up. Layer after layer, we carefully lay each layer out flat until the whole piece of cloth is opened and the shape and pattern are revealed. Are we this careful when we read the Word of God, when we listen to the Word of God? Or do we just look at a compact square of folded cloth, that unless it is unfolded, it cannot be used. If we go inside of the words God has given us to grow and mature, we will find precious treasures of God's knowledge and wisdom. He longs for us to hunger for His Word.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for taking the Word of God for granted. Forgive us for failing to get into Your Word on a regular basis or even neglecting it. Put a burning hunger in our hearts to unfold and enter in to Your Word. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so we will have the light of understanding and we will grow in Christ. In His name we pray, Amen.

NOT OF THIS WORLD

1 Corinthians 2:12

"What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us."NIV

"Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God." KJV

The spirit of this world which dictates the beliefs and behaviors of non-Christians, does not understand, nor seek to understand the things of God. As Christians, we sometimes become frustrated that non-believers don't "get it" and they shrug us off when we shine His light on them. If we understand that they are in the prison of darkness and cannot, are not able to, know about our God. We know the wonderful gifts He has showered on us. If we pray to be open to God so He can show us what to say and do, He will prepare the hearts of the unbelievers to receive Him.

Heavenly Father, we are so fully aware of the wonderful gift of eternal life You have given us. Forgive us for not understanding that unbelievers are held prisoners by the evil one and do not have the ability to understand. Give us the fullness of Your Holy Spirit to share the good news with them, so that they can share in the blessings of Your Kingdom. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

WISDOM & UNDERSTANDING

Sin entered the world because man's foolish thinking was esteemed
more than the wisdom of God. The consequence of that was man's
separation from God. To be in reverent awe and respect of Almighty
God will give us true wisdom, because we will be listening to Him
and being obedient to Him. In doing so, we will become more and
more separated from evil, to places where we can really see and
understand the truth.

Read Job 28:28

"And he said to man, 'The fear of the Lord--that is wisdom, and to shun
evil is understanding.'" (NIV)

"And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom;
and to depart from evil is understanding." (KJV)

HIS EYE IS ON YOU

Every person will have to give an account to the living God. All actions, thoughts, and secrets are intimately known by Him. Doesn't it seem like a wise thing to make sure all our actions, thoughts, and secrets are brought to Him and covered by His blood?

Read Hebrews 4:13

"Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account."(NIV)

"Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do." (KJV)

HIS WAY IS EASIER

In contrast to the religiosity of the Scribes and Pharisees, the way of
the spiritual life Jesus lived and taught us is much less cumbersome
and bound by traditions. His way is mild and gentle. Jesus showed us
by His life that He was not stern, overbearing, or oppressive. It is in
freedom that we walk as He did, not in obligation and oppression.

Read Matthew 11:29

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble
in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." (NIV)

"Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly
in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls." (KJV)

SEEING THE WHOLE PICTURE

It is satisfying for us to believe we are spiritually enlightened. But, the truth is, we have only a poorly reflected knowledge of God and His Truth. The day will soon arrive when our spiritual eyes will look on Him and know Him fully. Then we will not only be satisfied, but also complete.

Read 1 Corinthians 13:12

"Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known."
(NIV)

"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known." (KJV)
