PRIORITY PRAYING

Ephesians 6:18

"And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people." NIV

"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints." KJV

Prayer is such a special gift the Lord has given us to communicate with Him. Too many times, we get our "list" of things together that we need from the Lord or we get into a great difficulty and call out to Him to help us. If we are praying always in the Spirit, we are praying with the will of God for our lives, the lives of others, and for all situations. It's not what we want God to do for us, but being trusting in asking God what He wants for us to do for Him.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for the lack we have in our prayer life. Help us to keep from using our prayer time as a list of things we need from You, but as a time of praise and thanksgiving. Let it be a time of refreshment and asking for Your will to be done in our lives, in others' lives, and in all the things that are going on with us and our world. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

WAITING WITH HOPE

Psalm 119:114

"You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word." NIV

"Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word." KJV

Where do we go when life has dealt us a terrible blow? How do we cope with the trial that is set before us? What are we to do, when we don't know what to do? We wait. We wait under the wings of our God, our strong tower, our refuge. We wait there for the promise He has given us through His Word. His Word is sure and will never fail us. We wait with praise and thanksgiving for what He is doing and for what He will do for us.

Heavenly Father, we confess that we become distraught and discouraged when we cannot fix the problems facing us in our lives. We try to run ahead and take care of them ourselves only to find dead ends. Help us to rest in Your shadow, in Your loving arms, waiting for You to accomplish Your purpose in Your time. Give us assurance that it will be well with our souls and unending joy and peace are coming. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

THE POWER OF LOVE

Song of Solomon 8:7

"Many waters cannot quench love, rivers cannot sweep it away. If one were to give all the wealth of one's house for love, it would be utterly scorned." NIV

"Many waters cannot quench love, neither can the floods drown it: if a man would give all the substance of his house for love, it would utterly be condemned." KJV

Do we really understand how powerful the love of God is? Do we really get it that He has shed His love lavishly on us and in us? His love caused Him to send His only Son, Jesus Christ, to die for us. His love is never ending and envelopes us even when we are not following His steps. There is nothing that can stop His love. There is nothing that can decrease it or hide it. If we allow His love to have it's way in our hearts, it will pour out of us wherever we are, all the time. We will feel loved, and other will feel loved. There is no law that says we can only love so much. Love has total freedom to express itself. We cannot attain to this love on our own. We receive it by faith from God Almighty.

Heavenly Father, how we praise You for Your powerful and unending love to us. Help us to accept Your love and let is permeate throughout our beings. Give us freedom to let this love just naturally pour out of us each and every day, hour, and minute. We ask in the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

WE ARE AMBASSADORS

2 Corinthians 5:20

"We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God." NIV

"Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God." KJV

What a shame it is that many Christians lack the spiritual depth to understand they are representing Christ Himself here on earth. We may be the only way others can know that God loves them and learn the Way to eternal life. Our spirituality was never meant to be a personal, private thing. It is meant to go for Christ's sake to tell the Gospel to others and show the world how He wants us to live.

Heavenly Father, Oh how we fall short of our responsibility as Your ambassadors. Forgive us and help us to take up the burden of appealing to others that they come to You. That is the great commission to us, help us to be worthy of that calling. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.

HAPPY HEART

Proverbs 15:15

"All the days of the oppressed are wretched, but the cheerful heart has a continual feast." NIV

"All the days of the afflicted are evil: but he that is of a merry heart hath a continual feast." KJV

If we allow our hearts to be ruled by the situation we are in or the things that are going on around us, we will have unsatisfied hearts. We will spread discontent and be left lonely, because a discontented heart drives others away. When we learn to be content and allow the joy of the Lord to rule our heart, no matter what, we will bask in the awesome table of God's presence and leave a scattering of joy wherever we go.

Heavenly Father, help us to keep from allowing the world to determine our happiness or sadness. May we experience Your grace to see that no matter what comes our way, You are in control, and we can let Your joy rule our hearts. Let the joy in our hearts be a blessing to everyone we meet. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

SO WHO'S RESPONSIBLE FOR ME?

Romans 14:12

"So then, each of us will give an account of ourselves to God." NIV

"So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God." KJV

Don't we often find ourselves looking at what others are doing and feel we need to set them straight and stop doing things the wrong way? Don't we have a tendency to try to fix things that we believe are wrong in someone else's life? If we are truly open to the Holy Spirit, we will understand and look at ourselves and what we need to be doing. We are not responsible for anyone's life but our own. Parents, you are responsible for your children as long as they live under your roof. For them, you will give account. We certainly don't want to stand before the Lord, humiliated that we cannot give account for our own lives.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for trying to be responsible and fixing others. Give us the courage to look deep within ourselves and recognize that all we think, say, and do will be laid out before You. And, we must give an account. Help us Lord we pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

GET WHAT YOU GIVE

Luke 6:37

"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." NIV

"Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven." KJV

God has given us minds that are free to think and make decisions and opinions. Sometimes we take advantage of this and rather than see the world through the eyes of God as we should, we form our own "fleshly" opinions and decisions. Out of our own knowledge and information, we judge, criticize, and hold grudges, because it seems fair to do so. God's Word warns us against this way of thinking. When we allow our own minds to rule our thoughts, we are bringing judgement on ourselves. We will be treated the same way we think and feels about others.

Heavenly Father, please forgive us for being critical and unforgiving. Help us to remember the unfathomable mercy You have shown us so that we can in turn show it to those around us. Give us hearts of love that will drive out our being judgmental, condemning, and unforgiving. We pray earnestly in the name of Jesus, Amen.
