WE'VE GOT THE POWER

 

Psalm 46:1

 

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble." ESV 

 

Why is it that we let fear and worry have its way with us when we are faced with difficult things? Do we forget the power of our Lord and our free access to Him? The power of our Lord conquered Satan during the forty days in the wilderness. His strength conquered depression and sorrow in the Garden of Gethsemane. His power overcame death in the tomb. He has given us this same power through our faith in Him. We have no reason to fear. Unless we have neglected to fan the flames of our faith, reading His Word and living it!

 

Lord, please forgive us when our faith is shaken and we let worry and fear take us over. Fill us with hunger for Your Word and communion with You so that we will build our faith strong and be able to accept the power You give us to overcome. In Your omnipotent name, Amen.

CAN WE BE SURE?

 

Psalm 18:30

 

"This God--his way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; he is a shield for all those who take refuge in him." ESV 

 

We have all questioned God or gotten angry with Him. We have all felt God has failed us or hasn't heard us. It is then that we stand on our faith, not our feelings, declaring that God is perfect, holy, and loving. We can choose to ignore our faith and the Holy Spirit. If we do that, we need to search our hearts to find if we have ever really known Him.

 

Lord Jesus, in our hearts we know You are the perfect, loving God. Forgive us for those times when we doubt and our faith is weak. Help us to bring honor to Your name no matter what is going on in our lives. In Your name we pray, Amen.

WHERE TO RUN

Psalm 11:1   "In the Lord I take refuge: how can you say to my soul, 'Flee like a bird to your mountain." ESV   Seeking refuge in the Lord in troubled times is wise. This doesn't mean we are running away from our problems and troubles, or we are using God as a 'crutch.' It means we are in His hands where He can lift our spirits above our problems and troubles so they do not overcome us. No one can tell us to run from our enemies when we are in His hands.   Heavenly Father, how we give You glory and honor for Your unconditional love and protection. What strength and courage You provide when we come to You and are able to rise above the storms that beat down on us. Help us to always seek You and run to You, whether it is in times of trouble or times of great joy. WAITING WITH HOPE

 

Psalm 119:114

"You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word." NIV

"Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word." KJV

Where do we go when life has dealt us a terrible blow? How do we cope with the trial that is set before us? What are we to do, when we don't know what to do? We wait. We wait under the wings of our God, our strong tower, our refuge. We wait there for the promise He has given us through His Word. His Word is sure and will never fail us. We wait with praise and thanksgiving for what He is doing and for what He will do for us.

Heavenly Father, we confess that we become distraught and discouraged when we cannot fix the problems facing us in our lives. We try to run ahead and take care of them ourselves only to find dead ends. Help us to rest in Your shadow, in Your loving arms, waiting for You to accomplish Your purpose in Your time. Give us assurance that it will be well with our souls and unending joy and peace are coming. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

OUR SHELTER

Just as a child that is frightened runs to his mother for safety and
assurance, we, as God's children, run to Him for shelter. Just as
the child knows his mother and can rely on her to protect him, we
can know our Lord and fully trust that He will always take care of us.

Read Psalm 9:9,10

"The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never
forsaken those who seek you." (NIV)

"The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee." (KJV)
