SUBMISSION AND RESISTANCE

James 4:7

"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." NIV

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." KJV

We only have the power to resist the devil after we totally submit ourselves to God. When we recognize we are being taunted and attacked by the evil one, we often try to chase him away in our own strength. If we turn to our God and put our lives completely in His hands, we can then resist evil, and he has to go away. Satan cannot stay in the presence of the Almighty God.

Heavenly Father, we confess that we try to resist evil in our own strength at times. Forgive us for that. Help us to always turn to You in those times of temptation and taunting from Satan. Give us Your power to resist him and make him flee. It is by Your power that we live and breathe. In Jesus' name, Amen.

HEAVY LOAD

Proverbs 27:3

"Stone is heavy and sand a burden, but a fool's provocation is heavier than both."NIV

"A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both."KJV

It is much easier to hold up and carry the weight of heavy earthly materials, like sand and stone, than it is to endure and hold up the weight of an unreasonable, irritated person. It is better to walk away than to try and carry that load.

Heavenly Father, first of all, forgive us if we are such that we cause heavy burdens for those around us. Show us where we are wrong and help us to change. Then, help us to forgive and pray for those who do cause heavy burdens and help us to not get weighed down with trying to carry their load. In Jesus' name, Amen.

HATE EVIL

Sincerity is being genuine, pure, free of any deceit or falseness.
On the other hand, we are to hate evil. Hate is intense, extreme
aversion for something. We are to destroy evil that comes near us with the help of the Lord and then stay close to those things that are good.

Heavenly Father, we ask that you help us to love with sincere hearts and to stand ready to defeat the evil that runs rampant in our world. Help us to cling to all that is good, in Jesus' name.

Read Romans 12:9

"Love must be sincere. Hate what Is evil; cling to what is good." (NIV)

"Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good." (KJV)

CHRISTIAN SINNERS?

Because we are Christians, are we perfect? Are we free from mistakes?
Do we always obey the principles of the Word? Most likely not. But, if we
are truly children of God, the Holy Spirit will convict us when we get off
track. The love and grace of God will overpower the desire or inclination
to sin and, being alerted by His Spirit, we will turn back to His way. If we
continue in the sin and ignore the Holy Spirit's conviction, we are in danger of numbing our consciences from the voice of God.

Heavenly Father, we ask that you will help us be open to the Holy Spirit
and let your love and grace overpower our own desires that will lead us
away from you; In Jesus name.

Read 1 John 5:18

"We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him." (NIV)

"We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not." (KJV)

IMITATION

Are you following good or evil? The answer is evident not in your
verbal response, but in your day to day actions. If from your heart,
you are loving, kind, seeking to do good and sharing the grace and
mercy of God to others, you are following good. If you are unfeeling,
judgmental, impatient with others, or doing your own thing, you are
following evil and do not know God at all.

Read 3 John 1:11

"Dear friends, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone
who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil
has not seen God." (NIV)

"Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He
that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God."
(KJV)

YOUR CHOICE

Temptation is universal. It comes to every human being. Giving in
or not giving in to the temptation is always a choice. God will never
allow us to be tempted to the point that we can do nothing but sin.
There will always be an option to get through the temptation without
sinning. It's our choice and we will be held responsible for the choice
we make.

Read 1 Corinthians 10:13

"No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And
God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can
bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so
that you can stand up under it."(NIV)

"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man:
but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye
are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye
may be able to bear it." (KJV)

SUBMIT & RESIST

God will never force us to obey or serve Him. We are free to choose
willingly to make ourselves subject to Him in obedience. Likewise,
the devil will continually make attempts to taunt and tempt us, but
we are free to resist him by faith in God and he has to leave us alone.

Read James 4:7

"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee
from you." (NIV)

"Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will
flee from you." (KJV)

REJOICE IN TRUTH

If we find ourselves with a little feeling of delight and satisfaction
when someone gets caught in a sinful act, we are actually rejoicing
in evil--happy at someone's failing, enjoying the details of the acts
they committed. This is not love. We should be grieving that someone
was caught in the devil's snare, even if it was an enemy or someone
who hurt us. Likewise, love will cause us to be glad when truth and
goodness is manifested, even if it is through one with whom we have
conflict.

Read 1 Corinthians 13:6

"Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth." (NIV)

" [Love] Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth." (KJV)

WEAR ALL THE ARMOR

As Christians, we all have spiritual battles to fight against the subtle traps, deceiving temptations, and outright devastating attacks of Satan. We can't be without the full protection God has provided for us or neglect to maintain and wear any part of His armor. We are to be alert and prepared for anything the enemy may use to hinder or destroy our Christian walk.

Read Ephesians 6:11

"Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. (NIV)

"Put on the whole Armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil." (KJV)

OUR WISDOM IS INSUFFICIENT

If we allow ourselves to be guided by our own wisdom, we will find
ourselves falling short, missing the mark, headed down the wrong
street. If we trust in the Lord's wisdom, even when we don't understand
it, we will find strength and renewal.

Read Proverbs 3:7

"Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil. This will
bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones." (NIV)

"Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. I
t shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones." (KJV)
