WHICH SORROW IS THAT?

2 Corinthians 7:10

"For Godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death." ESV

There is a huge difference between Godly sorrow and worldly sorrow. Godly sorrow comes from realizing we have sinned against our Lord and that this sin must be stopped now so that we can be right with God. Worldly sorrow results from being found out, caught in our sin, and being resentful we will pay the consequences.

Heavenly Father, we stand humbly before You and ask for spiritual sensitivity to the sins we commit against You and others. We ask that our consciences produce Godly sorrow so that our sins will be washed clean by the blood of Jesus Christ. In His name we pray, Amen.

NO GETTING EVEN?

Ezekiel 18:23

"Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord God, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?" ESV

If we are honest, there are times we feel a sense of satisfaction when those who have wronged us have to pay for what they did. But, God's heart is different. Although unrepentant people will be punished, He is truly satisfied when they turn from their selfish ways and humbly walk with Him.

Heavenly Father, we ask You to mold our hearts to be like Yours, so that we will rejoice when our enemies turn to You with repentance, and grief when they don't. In Jesus name, Amen.

TWO KINDS OF BEING SORRY

2 Corinthians 7:10

"For Godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death." ESV

There are two kinds of remorse for being caught in a wrongdoing. Godly remorse is based on knowledge and acceptance that God has been offended by our actions and we are ashamed that we have dishonored Him. We will turn from that sin and walk in the right way. Worldly remorse is based on awareness that we have been caught and are embarrassed  that others know we have done wrong. We will continue to do wrong when we think we can get by with it. This type of remorse puts us in danger of eternal separation from God.

Heavenly Father, how we ask for Your grace to have true remorse when we sin. Keep our hearts clean and our spirits open to think before we act so that we will not have to be remorseful. But when we do sin, keep our hearts humble to remember that our sin has offended You. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
