TAKE THE LONG WAY HOME

Matthew 7:13,14

"Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few." ESV

Our human natures draw us to the wide road, where it is easy, popular, wide enough to allow us to be spiritually comfortable. It gives us space to believe what seems right to us and to decide for ourselves how we should live. In contrast, with God's nature in us, we choose to take the narrow road where it is lonely, difficult, and costly. Very few are attracted to this road and even fewer choose to take it. But it is the Way, the only Way to eternal life with God.

Heavenly Father, we have travelled on the wide road and it is truly easy. But we have learned that it leads to death. We thank You and praise You for providing the Way for us to become new creatures with Your nature so that we have the power to travel this narrow road, this difficult road, that leads us to eternal life with You. In the precious name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

TWO KINDS OF BEING SORRY

2 Corinthians 7:10

"For Godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death." ESV

There are two kinds of remorse for being caught in a wrongdoing. Godly remorse is based on knowledge and acceptance that God has been offended by our actions and we are ashamed that we have dishonored Him. We will turn from that sin and walk in the right way. Worldly remorse is based on awareness that we have been caught and are embarrassed  that others know we have done wrong. We will continue to do wrong when we think we can get by with it. This type of remorse puts us in danger of eternal separation from God.

Heavenly Father, how we ask for Your grace to have true remorse when we sin. Keep our hearts clean and our spirits open to think before we act so that we will not have to be remorseful. But when we do sin, keep our hearts humble to remember that our sin has offended You. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

SHARED HUMANITY

Hebrews 2:14

"Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil." ESV

Christ became human flesh and blood for the specific purpose of being the sinless sacrifice for our sin. If He would have remained fully God, He would not have been able to die. With a body such as we have, Jesus died and took the control of death from Satan. Now Satan cannot taunt us with fear about death and hell. By His death, Jesus Christ the door for us to pass through into eternal life.

Heavenly Father, we cannot even fathom how You went through this life without sin, though You were human like us. Give us eyes to see the reality of what You gave up for us, and by doing so, gave to us everlasting life. In Your name we pray, Amen.

PAY FOR SIN, GET SALVATION FOR FREE

Romans 6:23

"For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." NIV

"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." KJV

How many times have we heard non-Christians say, "I thought God was love, how then could He send anyone to hell?" God doesn't send anyone to hell! Those who go to eternal damnation have earned it. The payment for their sin is death because they did not believe in the atoning work of Jesus Christ on the cross and His resurrection. This is a very difficult thing for unbelievers to understand and can only be understood by the conviction of the Holy Spirit to a ready heart. God's free gift to ALL who believe in Him is eternal life. No charge. No entry fee. No actions, other than to believe. We have a choice. We can pay for our own sins or accept the free gift of Christ, who paid for our sins for us through His death and resurrection.

Heavenly Father, oh how we glorify You for the free gift of eternal life You intend for everyone to receive. Help us Lord to share this wonderful news with those who are in our path. Give us hearts of longing and prayer to send workers into the field to bring in those who will accept Your precious free Gift. In Your Son our Saviour's name we pray, Amen.
