SHARED HUMANITY

Hebrews 2:14

"Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil." ESV

Christ became human flesh and blood for the specific purpose of being the sinless sacrifice for our sin. If He would have remained fully God, He would not have been able to die. With a body such as we have, Jesus died and took the control of death from Satan. Now Satan cannot taunt us with fear about death and hell. By His death, Jesus Christ the door for us to pass through into eternal life.

Heavenly Father, we cannot even fathom how You went through this life without sin, though You were human like us. Give us eyes to see the reality of what You gave up for us, and by doing so, gave to us everlasting life. In Your name we pray, Amen.

NOT INSIGNIFICANT

Psalm 144:3

"Lord, what are human beings that you care for them, mere mortals that you think of them?" NIV

"Lord, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him!" KJV

Our God is the One who put the awesome and seemingly endless universe in place. Our God holds all of the galaxies and systems in their place, bringing order. Our God spoke everything into existence and He is eternal, He was, He is, and He will be. Why would such a majestic, magnificent, and eternal God keep His mind focused on us, mere flesh and blood, sinful, and self-centered beings. Why did He consider our lost state and send His Son to die for us? Why is He concerned about us at all? Because He loves us. He created us to love Him and to love each other. If He loves us this much, how much more should we think of others? How much more should we love others, even those who are unlovely?

Heavenly Father, how gracious and awesome is Your love. We cannot thank You enough for You mindfulness of us. How we pray that You would put that same love and thoughtfulness within our hearts so that we might be more like You and change this world through love. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
