DON'T GET TOO COMFORTABLE HERE

1 Peter 2:11   "Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul." ESV   If we are strangers and aliens in this world that implies we belong to the heavenly realm and not the earthly one. If we allow earthly things to grab our affections, Godly things will fade. Then we are at great risk for again becoming captives to this world. It is crucial to stay away from those things that tempt us, and to remember we are only travelling through this world.   Heavenly Father, the things of this world appeal so much to our senses that we get caught up in these worldly things with barely a thought. Forgive us for our weak flesh. Help us to stir our faith through the Word so that we will be able to say "no" to worldly things and not let them get in the way of our walk with You. MIND FOCUS

 

Colossians 3:2

"Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things." NIV

"Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth." KJV

As Christians it is easy to understand that focusing our minds on earthly things will soon bring us disappointment and sorrow. Staying focused on the things of God will always keep our hearts at peace and joy because the things of God are eternal. The problem is the forces at work in this world keep distracting us and we tend to let our minds get stuck on the things of this world. If we wake up giving the Lord our day and ask Him to help us stay focused on Him, we will find our lives are more content and happy.

Heavenly Father, we are sorry that we allow the world to draw our attention away from You. Help us through the power of the Holy Spirit to keep our minds focused on the eternal things of Your kingdom and not the degenerating things of this world. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

STAIN RESISTANT

 

James 1:27

"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." NIV

"Pure religion and undefiled before God the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." KJV

It can be frustrating to bring a shirt out of the washer and there is still a stain on the front of it. If the shirt is worth keeping, we will find a product that will remove that stain and re-wash it. Unfortunately, keeping ourselves unstained by the world is not that easy. First of all, God tells us it is our responsibility to keep ourselves spotless from the pollution of the world. We cannot blame others if we fall into the ways of the world. And there is no earthly means by which we can keep ourselves spiritually clean. If we commit our ways to the Lord and walk in His Spirit, we will have the perfect stain protector and remover.

Heavenly Father, we are sorry that we allow ourselves to get caught up in the world and wear the stains of it in Your presence. Forgive us and help us to live out the words You have spoken that help us to stay unspotted by this world. In Jesus' name, Amen.

MATERIAL WORLD

 

1 John 2:16

"For everything in the world--the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life--comes not from the Father but from the world."NIV

"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."KJV

God created us with sensory systems, hormones, and egos so we could experience the world around us and glorify Him for the beautiful creation He made. After the fall, we no longer used these human things to long for our God, see all His beauty, and feel the contentment of being in His presence. Now it's the things of the world for which we long--the things we see, the things that make us feel good, and the things that make us look good. The world became our God. Praise be to God for the gift of His Son that got us back to where we needed to be--longing for Him.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for letting the world get more of us than we give to You. Living in the world makes it effortless to get caught up in wanting the things it has to offer. Give us zeal for the things of God and see the world for what it is, a wasting, lost, and sinful place. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

DON'T CONFORM, BE TRANSFORMED

To conform is an action word that implies we have a choice, full
control to accommodate or come into harmony with worldly thoughts
and practices. We are told directly in God's Word not to conform to
this world. Any changes that take place in us, as Christians, are to
come from the Holy Spirit inside us, by changing our thinking to
conform to the Word of God. Only then will God's will become
clear to us.

Read Romans 12:2

"Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able
to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and
perfect will." (NIV)

"And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed
by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is
that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." (KJV)
