IN GOD WE TRUST

Psalm 56:4

"In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?

God's Word is truth whether we believe it is or not. Those who trust in God, also trust in His Word. His Word tells us that He will never leave us and that He watches over us always. With our God, and His unfailing love, we have no reason to fear men. Who are they to stand up against the Almighty Eternal God.

Heavenly Father, we praise You and thank You because of who You are. We know by putting our faith in You we will never be disappointed. Help us to use our faith and to share the good news to those we meet. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

I DID IT OR HE DID IT FOR ME

Proverbs 27:21

"The crucible is for silver, and the furnace is for gold, and a man is tested by his praise." ESV

We have learned how silver and gold are purified by the refiner's fire; how it separates the purity from the impurity. Will we show how purified we have allowed the Lord to make us when we speak of our own accomplishments and the good life we have. Are we prideful, feeling superior, self-satisfied that we have accomplished much? Or are we humble and speak the truth of how it is only by the grace of God that we have gotten to this place? Do we honor ourselves for what we have accomplished or do we give all the glory to God? That will tell our purified we are.

Heavenly Father, may we never be puffed up by claiming what we have achieved as being by our own talents and abilities. Instead, let the blessings we have in this life be motivation to tell the world it is by Your loving grace, and Your desire to bless Your children. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

NO STINKIN' THINKIN' ALOUD!

Philippians 4:8

"Finally brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, it there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things." ESV

We all know about the 'power of positive thinking." Don't forget there is also power in negative thinking. Our thoughts, feelings, and actions are determined for the most part by the kinds of thoughts we allow to occupy our minds. If we choose to let the positive thoughts dominate our thinking, we will have thoughts that produce the power of God in our lifestyle and our attitude.

Heavenly Father, help us to choose our thinking so that we will be focused on positive things. Allow our thoughts to radiate Your mind and our actions to show Your great power and love. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A CALL TO MAGNIFY OUR GOD

Psalm 34:3

"Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together!" ESV

We all share in the same trials and tribulations of living in this world. We call on our friends and family to talk about the difficulties and challenges we are facing. Wouldn't it make sense that, as Christians, we would call on our brothers and sisters in the Lord to share in the praise and worship of our Lord? Wouldn't it lift all of us out of our own situations and into the presence of our magnificent God? The heart of every child of God is bent toward magnifying the very God who made us and longs to hear our praises.

Heavenly Father, we stand in need of Your forgiveness for getting caught up in the cares of this world; and, for not hearing the call to magnify You, the Almighty, Loving God. Give us hearts of praise and adoration so that we will call on our fellow Christians to praise and magnify You. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

LET'S GET DOWN TO BUSINESS

Psalm 95:6

"Come let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker." NIV

"O come, let us worship and bow done; let us kneel before the Lord our maker." KJV

The gesture of bowing and kneeling before another is a true representation of humility and giving honor. How many times do we "pay our respects" to the Lord God Almighty as we rush through our morning routine, as we fight the traffic to our place of work, as we wrestle the children off to school? Or do we squeeze in a quick prayer of "God help me" when we get carted off by the stress of the day? Shame on us! If we are truly sincere about worshipping our God, we will prepare our hearts before Him in humbleness and sincerity. We will set aside time, often, to bow before the Creator of the universe, and offer to Him the worship He so rightly deserves.

Heavenly Father, search our hearts and reveal to us the manner in which we offer worship to You. We may not like what we see about ourselves, but we ask for Your forgiveness for rushing through such a critical time with You. Give us hearts of true worship and a hunger to set aside things that are unnecessary so that we can give of ourselves in the right manner of worship to You. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

ODD PEOPLE

1 Peter 2:9

"But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God's special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." NIV

"But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light." KJV

It's not "cool" to be odd and peculiar these days. However, when we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour, we have accepted that God has bought us with the blood of His Son, and we are His private property, His own people. This makes us totally the opposite of those who live without God in their lives. While they live with hearts that desire the things of this world, we, as God's holy people, understand that we are not even of this world, nor are we at home in this world. As long as we live in this world, we are not a part of it and it stands out clearly to everyone who sees us. While the ungodly may mock us and cut us down with their words and deeds, we continue to shine as lights in a dark world. The Holy Spirit will convict those who are living in sin, and then they will have to choose to be a part of God's kingdom or remain in the darkness.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for being backward in showing our faith that makes us different from those without You. Forgive us for trying to blend in with them out of fear. Give us boldness, by Your Holy Spirit so that we will shine as peculiar people so that those who are in the dark will see Your light and will be drawn to You by the Holy Spirit. We ask this in the name of Jesus, Amen.

FORGIVE AND BE FORGIVEN

Matthew 6:14

"For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you."NIV

"For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you."KJV

To forgive those who have wronged us is not a natural inclination for us. But, the Lord says we are to forgive others or else we will not be forgiven. To forgive others is to put away any wrong they have done and never bring it back. That's what our Lord does with our sins. He throws them to the bottom of the ocean and remembers them no more. We all need forgiveness, so we also need to learn to forgive.

Heavenly Father, we ask for humble hearts to forgive those who have wronged us and hurt us. Make us aware of our own wrongs so that we can confess them and ask for Your forgiveness. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

PRAISE HIM OR THE STONES WILL

Luke 19:39,40

"Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, 'Teacher, rebuke your disciples!' 'I tell you,' he replied, 'if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.'"NIV

"And some of the Pharisees from among the multitude said unto him, Master, rebuke thy disciples. And he answered and said unto them, I tell you that, if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out."KJV

We are God's most prized of His creation. It is right that we praise Him continually for His great love and grace. If we as His prized creation stop praising Him, the stones that are a part of His lower creation will break out in praise to Him. We wouldn't want the stones to rob us of our great privilege to praise our Lord.

Heavenly Father, may we always have praise on our lips that come from hearts of gratefulness to our Lord who is worthy of all praise. We pray in His precious name, Amen.

REFINING THE CHRISTIAN

We have learned how silver and gold is purified by the refiner's
fire; how it separates the purity from the impurity. So it is when
we are given praise by others. Our response will show what is in
our hearts. Are we prideful, feeling superior, and self-satisfied?
O are we even more humbled and willing to be given and poured
out for the honor of God?

Heavenly Father, may we never be puffed up by praise, but let
it give us motivation to ever be busying ourselves with seeking
to glorify your name. In Jesus' name.

Read Proverbs 27:21

"The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but man is tested
by the praise he receives." (NIV)

"As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man
to his praise." (KJV)
