LIVING ABOVE ACCOUNTABILITY

 

Habakkuk 2:9

 

"Woe to him who gets evil gain for his house, to set his nest on high, to be safe from the reach of harm!" ESV 

 

There are well known business, political, sports, and evangelistic leaders who build their empire in ways that are far from Spirit led. They aspire to live exalted above common man and believe they are above danger and ruin. They will be exposed for what they are. Ruin and devastation will come on them unexpectedly and it will be indescribable tragedy.

 

Lord, keep us from thinking we can build our lives so that we can be deceitful and think we are safe. Help us have a heart of compassion and intercessory prayer for those who do such things. In Your name we pray, Amen.

KEEPING UP WITH THE JONESES

Proverbs 23:4

"Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist." ESV

The theme of this world is to get rich, accumulate things, have the latest, keep up with those around us. No matter how we try to achieve this, it takes a lot of time and energy. So often, people are so busy making money they have little or no time to enjoy the things it can buy them. By the time the age of retirement and rest approaches, health issues are present and the years of overwork and pushing ourselves to the limit takes its toll. God tells us to live modestly and seek Him. Are we wearing ourselves out for the things of this world or are we nourishing our bodies and souls for Christ?

Lord, forgive us for losing sight of the truly important, eternal things of this life. Help us use the wisdom You have given us to live modestly and to use our energy and time as good stewards of the time and energy You give us. In Your name we pray, Amen.

IT WAS NOT ME

Deuteronomy 8:17,18     "You may say to yourself, "My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me." But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today." NIV   "And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. But thou shalt remember the Lord thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth, that he may establish his covenant which he sware unto thy fathers, as it is this day." KJV   Self satisfaction and pride in our abilities and accomplishments are an open door to rob and dethrone God of the honor He deserves. After we have worked hard, gotten ahead financially, and feel more secure financially, of course we have a human tendency to feel we have achieved this through our hard work and perseverance. When we admire our selves for these accomplishments, we create an idol in God's place. Remember, all we are and all we have is from Him. And He will hold us accountable for how we use these blessings.   Heavenly Father, how we thank You and praise You for Your abundant blessings to us. Forgive us if we have taken any credit for these blessings and forgive us if we use them for our own pleasure. Give us open hearts to hear Your voice as to how You want us to use these blessings. Thank You for allowing us to enjoy them but also to bless others with them and glorify You as King of Kings.
