GOOD TRUMPS EVIL

Romans 12:21

"Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good." NIV

"Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." KJV

Getting even is such a response of the natural man. Our first instinct is to seek revenge on those who threaten or hurt us in some way. The Word of God plainly tells us it is our responsibility to keep the natural man bound up and allow our new man to act in the ways we were taught by Christ. Repaying evil for evil only creates more evil. Overcoming evil with good causes the evil to stop. If there is ever any question as to how to handle a situation where evil comes attacking, remember that we are to do good instead of trying to get even with evil.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for allowing the natural man to rule in situations where we are threatened, hurt, or taunted by evil actions of others. Help us to do what You have given us the power to do, respond to that evil with goodness. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.

CALL IT WHAT IT IS

What does it means to have a reprobate mind? It is the lack of
acknowledging or even caring about the difference between right and
wrong. There is no shame in sin or evil. Whatever feels and seems right
is the guide. It is frightening to know how easy it is to get deceived by
someone with a reprobate mind, because the talk flows smoothly and
convincingly that it is okay to do what is wrong. It is so very easy to
influence the unsuspecting. The reward is death. We can't let anyone get
us confused about what is good and what is evil. Pray for discernment.

Read Isaiah 5:20

"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for
light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for
bitter." (NIV)

"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness
for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for
bitter!" (KJV)

IMITATION

Are you following good or evil? The answer is evident not in your
verbal response, but in your day to day actions. If from your heart,
you are loving, kind, seeking to do good and sharing the grace and
mercy of God to others, you are following good. If you are unfeeling,
judgmental, impatient with others, or doing your own thing, you are
following evil and do not know God at all.

Read 3 John 1:11

"Dear friends, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone
who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil
has not seen God." (NIV)

"Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He
that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God."
(KJV)

GOODNESS & SEVERITY OF GOD

The love of God is boundless and glorious. However, we fail to understand that the severity of God also exists when it is needed. Those who fall from or refuse His salvation will know His severity which is eternal death and darkness. Those who turn from unbelief and rebellion to God will bask in His love forever and ever.

Read Romans 11:22

"Consider therefore the kindness and sternness of God: sternness to
those who fell, but kindness to you, provided that you continue in His
kindness. Otherwise, you also will be cut off. (NIV)

"Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell,
severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness:
otherwise thou also shalt be cut off." (KJV)

OVERCOME EVIL WITH GOOD

Retaliation! Revenge! Getting Even! They are all just the same as trying
to put out a fire with a blow torch or cleaning the mud off your feet by
walking through a mud pit. All pointless wastes of time that increase
evil. As Christians we are called to overcome evil with good. Easier
said than done, but we can choose to do it out of love for the Lord.
Blessings are waiting for those who choose to trump evil with good.

Read 1 Peter 3:9

"Do not repay eveil with evil or insult with insult, but with blessing,
because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing."
(NIV)

"Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing."
(KJV)

A BLESSING FOR OTHERS

It is a gesture of love to ask for God's blessing on others. Doing
so shows our own right relationship with the Lord and our desire
to see Him bless and protect others. Ask the Lord to keep His face
toward them and smile down on them in His abundant grace and
mercy. Call for the blessing of Peace that is so rare in these times.
What a beautiful way to bless and pray for each other.

Read Numbers 6:24-26

"May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine
upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you
and give you peace." (NIV)

"The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine
upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his
countenance upon thee, and give thee peace." (KJV)

KEEP GOING

Exerting time and energy to do Godly things can become tiresome if
we are never acknowledged or rewarded for our efforts. Likewise, it
can be wearisome if we meet with difficulties and snags that create
more time and energy to get God's work done. If you are feeling tired
and weary, take Heart! Refresh yourself in His promises. The fruits
of your labor will surely appear if you just keep going and don't quit.

Read Galatians 6:9

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will
reap a harvest if we do not give up." (NIV)

"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall
reap, if we faint not." (KJV)

SINCERE LOVE

There is no way we can pretend to have Godly love. Real love will stay
away from evil and seek out that which is good. Those who pretend to
be full of love are those who get tangled up in evil ways. Love overcomes
evil.

Read Romans 12:9

"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good." (NIV)

"Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to
that which is good." (KJV)

IT'S YOUR CHOICE

We all naturally seek after those things that satisfy the senses. We have
been created that way. However, we have been created with authority over our own wills. The Word of God tells us to choose good and stay away from evil. And wherever there is strife and turmoil, we are to constantly look for the peaceful solution and go after it.

Read Psalm 34:14

"Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it." (NIV)

"Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it." (KJV)
