Proverbs
16:9
"The plans
of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord."
ESV
It seems so
natural to say to ourselves, "Today I will do this or that," or "next year we
plan to do this." It not only seems natural, it is natural. It is a part of our
natural man that seeks to satisfy it's own needs and desires. Regardless of what
we might plan for our future, it is the Lord God who unfolds His perfect plan
for our lives and His glory. Regardless of the state of our hearts, God is still
in control of everything.
Heavenly Father,
we ask Your forgiveness for making our own plans without taking thought to come
to You in prayer asking for Your guidance. Help us to remember that You are in
control of all we do and all that happens to us. Bring to our remembrance that
Your plan will unfold, no matter what our plan is. We pray in Jesus' name,
Amen.

LEVEL GROUND
Isaiah
26:7
The path of
the righteous is level; you, the Upright One, make the way of the righteous
smooth." NIV
"The way of
the just is uprightness: thou, most upright, dost weigh the path of the just."
KJV
Since we live in a
cursed world, all humans walk out their lives on paths that are filled with
debris and potholes. However, those who are righteous in the eyes of the Lord,
who is the only upright one, will smooth out those rough spots and work out the
problems so that passage onward will be less of a burden and more of a blessing.
Heavenly Father,
we're sorry that we forget that life in this world is difficult and You have
told we will have problems here. When we come across stumbling blocks and things
that stop our walk, help us to remember that You are with us to make those rough
places smooth. You will work out all those tribulations for us, Your righteous
ones. In Jesus' name, Amen.

THE WAYS OF THE LORD ARE RIGHT
Hosea
14:9
"Who is
wise? Let them realize these things. Who is discerning? Let them understand. The
ways of the Lord are right; the righteous walk in them, but the rebellious
stumble in them." NIV
"Who is
wise, and he shall understand these things? Prudent, and he shall know them? For
the ways of the Lord are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the
transgressors shall fall therein." KJV
As Christians,
we all have struggles and we may even fall. But we have a God who loves us
and walks with us and sets us back on the path when we stray. But, for those who
choose to live their lives on their own, without Jesus Christ, it is a vastly
different result. Without a loving God at their side, they walk alone and,
without any assurance. They inwardly tremble, hoping someone will have a heart
of kindness to come and help them with their problem. When the unsaved get into
trouble for not following the world's laws, they are at the mercy of the world's
justice system. They may pay for their wrongdoing here on earth, but they will
walk the streets still unsaved and unforgiven, walking toward eternal darkness.
For them, there is no hope. They are unwise, making up their own beliefs that
all is well.
Heavenly Father,
how can we ever thank You enough for showing us Your just and true ways so that
we can put our trust in You during good times and bad. Give us the boldness to
let those who are unsaved know there is a better way that gives hope, a
foundation of peace, that leads to eternal life. In Jesus' name,
Amen.

HIS WAY IS THE HIGHWAY
Isaiah
55:9
"As the
heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my
thoughts than your thoughts."NIV
"For as the
heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my
thoughts than your thoughts."KJV
It is human nature
for us to play out in our minds how the Lord is going to work in our situations.
And then we are surprised at how He does it, a way we would never have thought.
It shows us that God's ways are much different than ours. How different? His
ways are a greater distance than the heavens are from the earth, which by the
way, scientist have not been able to measure. When we ask God why, or wonder
what He is doing, we can let our faith kick in full and just trust Him. He is in
control.
Heavenly Father,
forgive us for questioning what You are doing or not doing. Help us to
strengthen our faith so that in any situation, although we may not understand,
we will know that You are working in Your way, not ours. In Jesus' name,
Amen.

GETTING DIRECTION

There will be times when we come to crossroads or major decisions
that will have far reaching impact on our lives. The Lord tells us we
are to choose the way of Christians who have gone on before us. They
have worn a proven trail that leads to peace and rest for the soul. Jesus
Christ took that road, walk the way He did.
Read Jeremiah 6:16
"This is what the Lord says: 'Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.'" (NIV)
"Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old
paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for
your souls." (KJV)

HE KNOWS US

We do not understand the ways of God, as we know His ways are
far above our ways. But, He knows the ways we take, and is well
acquainted with them. Even when others around us don't understand
our ways, God does. He honors our choice to go the right way even if
we have taken a wrong step at times. Our Lord will examine our ways
and when we have passed His test of our faith, we will emerge with
the rewards of everlasting life.
Read Job 23:10
"But he knows the way that I take; when he has tested me, I will
come forth as gold." (NIV)
"But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall
come forth as gold." (KJV)

LET GOD TELL IT

It is human nature to want others to know about our special gifts and
abilities. The thing is, human nature is infected with pride. Calling
attention or merely mentioning our abilities does nothing for the
Kingdom of God or to draw others to Him. Just living for the moment
and opportunity to use our gifts, practicing them without fanfare, is
when the Lord will acknowledge us and others will know we have
gifts and abilities and that they are God given.
Read 2 Corinthians 10:18
"For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but
the one whom the Lord commends." (NIV)
"For not he that commendeth himself is approved, but whom the Lord
commendeth." (KJV)

GOD BECAME MAN

Christ became human flesh and blood for the specific purpose of being
the sinless sacrifice for our sin, once for all. As God, He could not die.
With a body like ours, He died and took control of death from Satan. Now Satan cannot taunt us with fear about death and hell. Christ holds the key to death and the fear is gone because He has made death the passage to eternal life.
Read Hebrews 2:14
"Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might destroy him who holds the power of death-- that is, the devil." (NIV)
"Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil." (KJV)

RIGHTEOUSNESS AND TROUBLES

We may say we are in the army of God, but unless we are in active battle
with the enemy, we are nothing more than impostors in costume. Active
battle with the enemy will inevitably result in wounds and injuries. Jesus Christ is our commander and it is an honor to serve Him in this way. So there is no need to complain or worry about the trouble we encounter in this battle.
Read Psalm 34:19
"A righteous man may have many troubles, but the Lord delivers him from them all." (NIV)
"Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all." (KJV)

HIS DIVINE PURPOSE

When it seems that the events of life or actions of other people
are surely going to destroy us, take heart. We are where God is
able to use us for this time and season. He intends it to be for our
good and the good of those around us, so that His divine purpose
is completed.
Read Genesis 50:19,20
"Don't be afraid. Am I in the place of God? You intended to harm
me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being
done, the saving of many lives." (NIV)
"And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto
good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive."

GOD'S WAYS ARE HIGHER

Do we sometimes believe that God works within the confines
of our human reasoning? We must, because things go wrong,
our prayers seem to have hit the ceiling, and we wonder why
God is not there, hearing us. We are commanded in His Word
to bring our petitions, cares, and burdens to Him but we are not
commanded to tell Him how to take care of these things. We
are only to trust in Him, know that He is in control, and that He
hears us.
Read Isaiah 55:9
"As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher
than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." (NIV)
"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways
