SELF CONTROL IN ACTION

1 Corinthians 9:25

"Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last but we do it to get a crown that will last forever."NIV

"And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible."KJV

Those who prepare for exams that will further their education or career take control of their time and energy to study and know the material needed to pass the test with the passing score. Likewise, athletes train and practice their strategies and moves, and keep their bodies in top shape so they can perform with winning performance. If these individuals spent their time reading about how to pass a test or win a game, or take up time discussing the different ways to make success happen, they would probably not be winners. It seems there are Christians or those who call themselves such, who spend their time talking about God, discussing the Bible, and exchanging ideas about what to believe or not. These are useless people for the kingdom of God. If we want to experience the greatest victory, spending eternity with our Lord and Saviour, we will be exercising self control in all that we think, say, and do. We will be expressing our faith in action and discipline. We will be seeking to be holy as He is holy.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for wasting time on things that do not matter and not being self-controlled to stay on track in our walk with You. Help us to exercise the gift of self-control that is available to us through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
