LOVE IS NOT A FEELING

John 3:16

"For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." NIV

"For God so love the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." KJV

Love has taken on many meanings over the years. If you ask a newly married couple how they know they love each other they will say they feel so good being together, liking the same things, having similar hopes and dreams. Unfortunately, those things can and usually fade over time. Ask a couple that has been married 50 years how they know they love each other. Their answer will most likely resemble something like, well we're still together, or we just did what we had to do, or we worked out the hard times. This kind of love endured because it was not based on feelings. It was based on commitment. That is the kind of love our Lord has shown to us. It is love that never fails, never disappoints, never ends. It is the love that fulfills the promises it makes. Because of His love, God gave us Jesus Christ, His commitment of love, giving us the freedom to accept His gift and freely return the commitment of our love to Him.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of true love. Give us a burning desire to know this love, accept this love, and be able to share it to others. Show us if we have love based on feelings so that we can make it right. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

Accept that Gods love is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow and is not fickle as the human heart growing bored or mundane. God has feelings for us like the newlyweds and God is faithful like the old couple who just learned to work it out. Have a blessed week.

Reminds me of 1John 3:1. "See how very much our Father loves us, for he calls us his children, and that is what we are!" How thankful I am for God's love!
