WHO MAKES ALL MY DECISIONS?

Matthew 16:24

"Then Jesus told his disciples, 'If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.'" ESV

How would we feel if we could not do any of the things we want to do, think the thoughts we want to think, say the things we want to say, or go to places we want to go? How would we feel letting someone else decide all these things for us. If we follow Christ, this is exactly how it will be. It is a difficult, narrow path. Very few are willing to do it. But those who do quickly find a life of peace, joy, and freedom that is far greater than any life they could make for themselves.

Heavenly Father, we thank You and praise You for the gift of eternal life. We give You the glory for rewarding our faith to trust in You to have control of our lives and lavishing us with Your peace and joy. Help us to show this great gift to everyone we meet. In Jesus name, Amen.

CHANGE YOUR DIRTY CLOTHES

Ephesians 4:22

"..to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of this life and is corrupt through deceitful desires." ESV

If we were to spend time in a pig pen, would we be just fine keeping on the clothes we were wearing? No, indeed! We wouldn't be able to wait until we could get cleaned up and put on fresh clothes. Some of us are spiritually running around with our pig pen lifestyles and ways. We fail to get the stench of sin off of us and put on the clothes of righteousness. Maybe we are still attached to the filth. Regardless, we should be just as eager to put on the mind of Christ by renewing the spirit of our minds.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for not getting all the worldly filth out of us. Help us to renew the spirit of our minds so that we will be more like Christ. In His name we pray, Amen.

WHO IS IN FIRST PLACE?

Matthew 6:24

"No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money." ESV

The center of our beings has been created to hold only one God. There is just one place for the number one within our hearts. Being human, we find ourselves involved in conflict between the number one place in our hearts. The second place always has less status and will lose to number one every time. The serious fact is, we choose who is first in that one and only spot. It is either God, who belongs there, or it is ourselves and our selfish gain.

Heavenly Father, we fail so many times to the age old struggle of the old self trying to take over first place. Forgive us for those times we allow that to happen. Help us to stay in the Word, increasing our faith and spiritual strength to overpower the old self. Be first in our hearts, we pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

PLANS OF THE HEART

Proverbs 16:9

"The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord." ESV

It seems so natural to say to ourselves, "Today I will do this or that," or "next year we plan to do this." It not only seems natural, it is natural. It is a part of our natural man that seeks to satisfy it's own needs and desires. Regardless of what we might plan for our future, it is the Lord God who unfolds His perfect plan for our lives and His glory. Regardless of the state of our hearts, God is still in control of everything.

Heavenly Father, we ask Your forgiveness for making our own plans without taking thought to come to You in prayer asking for Your guidance. Help us to remember that You are in control of all we do and all that happens to us. Bring to our remembrance that Your plan will unfold, no matter what our plan is. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

TRUST GOD FOR RICHES AND WISDOM

Proverbs 23:4

"Do not wear yourself out to get rich; do not trust your own cleverness."NIV

"Labour not to be rich; cease from thine own wisdom."KJV

According to a recent report by the American Psychological Association, 75% of the people interviewed reported moderate to severe stress in their lives. Stress comes from many places, but one of the major sources of stress in our society is to accruing enough wealth and possessions to make our lives comfortable and satisfying. Many are willing to risk their health to make this happen and they lose sleep due to planning more ways to make more money. When we stop to look at the way time is racing by and to recognize that all the things we gather for our own pleasure are just temporary, it seems rather foolish. Our God has so much more waiting for us that will last forever. Wouldn't it be more wise to seek after the things of God, those things that will bring us more pleasure that anything this world can offer?

Heavenly Father, we just get so caught up in this world and the things that bring us instant gratification. We even get together and show one another the latest things we have gotten that we believe will make a difference in our lives. Help us to remember that all the things of this world will perish and are very short lived. Give us the desire to seek the riches of the Kingdom of God, those things that will last forever. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

WHO IS NUMBER ONE?

There is room for only one in the number one place within our hearts. It
is evident which is number one in our hearts when the second place is in
conflict with the number one. The second place has less status and will
lose out every time. We choose who is first in that one and only spot. It
is either God or self gain.

Read Matthew 6:24

"No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the
other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot
serve both God and Money."
(NIV)

"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." (KJV)
