OUT OF CONTROL

Ephesians 4:26,27

"Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil." ESV

Uncontrolled anger is a perfect environment for Satan to get his foot in the door and barge in with all kinds of toxic thoughts, words, and deeds. Anger is a normal emotion. It is up to us to allow the Holy Spirit to keep our anger controlled.

Lord, forgive us for allowing our anger to get out of control and giving Satan opportunity to work through us with hurtful words and actions. Help us to seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit so that we will have self-control. In Your name we pray, Amen.

WHO'S IN CHARGE HERE?

Jeremiah 10:23

"I know, O Lord, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps." ESV

We all like being in control of our own lives. There is a lot of comfort in being able to plan out our comings and goings. But, we tend to forget that we are not really in control of anything about our lives. God is in control of all things. He allows us to choose our master. We choose to let Him be in control of our lives or we choose to let our sinful natures be in control of our lives. As Christians, we acknowledge that we were bought by the blood of Christ. He is in control of everything about us.

Heavenly Father, it is comforting to know that You are in control of our lives. We know You are leading us to Yourself. That is where we long to be. Help us to keep hearing Your voice and in obedience, following Your steps. In Jesus' name, Amen.

ODORLESS POISON

Psalm 119:133

"Keep steady my steps according to your promise, and let no iniquity get dominion over me." ESV

Many believe today that quick and unexpected temptation or tragedy will sweep us away into the depths of sin without our being able to get control over it. The problem is, sin is always slow, creeping, tiny little steps that all seem just fine. There is no awareness that we are moving farther along the road to destruction, until we are stuck deep in it's ruts. Just like carbon monoxide, an odorless poison, can take our lives without any fanfare, sin works the same way. We are warned repeatedly in the Scriptures to be alert, watchful, and aware. Sin can get dominion over us in ways we are unaware if we do not keep watch.

Heavenly Father, we stand in need of Your grace so that our minds will be focused on You and Your repeated instruction for us to be alert and watchful. Give us more hunger for Your Word so that we will better recognize the odorless poison of sin and turn from it. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
