HAPPY SORROW

 

Matthew 5:4

 

"Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." ESV 

 

Are we truly and honestly aware of the tragedy of sin? Do we understand its' effects on our own hearts? Have we found ourselves humiliated at the fact that we have offended God? Are we deeply grieved by the sins of others and the state of the world? If so, then we are among those who mourn. To mourn is to experience great sorrow over loss or anything regretted. We will be comforted.

 

Heavenly Father, we pray for spiritual insight to understand the tragedy of sin and how it has separated us from You. We praise You because of Your great love, we can repent and mourn over the effect of sin on us and our world. We thank You for the comfort You lavish on us when we mourn. In Jesus' name, Amen.

OUR SUFFERING HAS A PURPOSE

 

2 Corinthians 1:3,4

 

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." ESV

 

 

Any trial or suffering we might experience in this life is never in vain. God will put us in a place where we will find someone dealing with the same kind of experience. God gave us the grace and comfort we needed to get through that time of suffering. And, He lavishes us with the ability to understand and give comfort to someone else who needs it.

 

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the comfort You give us when we need it. We are amazed and honored that You bring meaning to our suffering by giving us opportunities to pass comfort and caring to those who go through similar trials. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

JOY TO OUR ANXIOUS MINDS

Psalm 94:19   "When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul." ESV   There is no question that the levels of anxiety and stress in this world are very high. If we have nothing but the things of this world and other people just as stressed as we are to rely on, we are in a sorry state. For those who know the Lord and have accepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour, there is complete joy and peace in spite of the trials, tribulation, and evil of this world.   Heavenly Father, we praise Your Holy Name for the wonderful joy Your salvation brings to us. Help us to seek out Your consolation through Your Word and fellowship with other believers, so that we will know the joy that awaits us. WARN, ENCOURAGE, HELP, WITH PATIENCE

 

1 Thessalonians 5:14

"And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone."NIV

"Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men."KJV

We are called on to take action toward those who are struggling in the faith. Before we can do that, we will need to examine our own lives to see if we are lacking in our walk with the Lord. Then, it will take much prayer and communion with the Lord, asking daily for the fullness and leading of the Holy Spirit to be able to do these things that are asked of us. There are always going to be lazy, boisterous, depressed, and weak people. And patience is a difficult spiritual fruit to practice. It helps if we remember that we were at one time or another, one of those people who needed someone to be patient with us.

Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ fulfilled all these things expected of us toward others. Search our hearts and if we fall short, help us to mature in these areas. Help us to remember from where we came just prior and after we became Christians. Give us the mind of Christ and fullness of His Spirit so that we can help others who are struggling and do it with patience. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

COMFORT FOR THE DOWNCAST

The thought that the Creator of all that is and ever will be, cares about those who are sad and discouraged. He perfectly plans the giving of comfort and encouragement to them. Just as amazing is the way He does it. He uses the seeds of comfort from one who has has received seeds of comfort from others. God gives the comfort. The comforted one takes seeds of that comfort and plants them in one who needs comforting, who now becomes the comforted one. It keeps going. God's love cannot be stopped.

Read 2 Corinthians 7:6,7

"But God who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, and not only by his coming but also by the comfort you had given him...." (NIV)

"Nevertheless God, that comforteth those that are cast down, comforted us by the coming of Titus; And not by his coming only, but by the consolation wherewith he was comforted in you..." (KJV)

GOD COMFORTS THROUGH ME

Any trial or suffering we experience is not in vain. God will put us

in a place where we will find someone dealing with that same thing.

God gave us the comfort we needed and the ability to pass that comfort

on to the one who needs it.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the comfort you gave us when we

needed it. We thank you that you give us opportunities to pass that

comfort along to others. In Jesus' name.
