WE'VE GOT A TWISTED VIEW

Isaiah 53:4

"Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted." ESV

Remember the story of the young girl who was ashamed of her grandmother's hands because they were scarred, blemished, wrinkled, and twisted? The young girl would look away and try to keep her friends from seeing her grandmother's hands. One day the young girl asked her grandmother about her hands. Her grandmother told her the story of how she grabbed the young girl who had caught fire by the wood stove and put out the fire with her hands. Now read today's verse again.

Heavenly Father, we ask Your forgiveness for our sins that drove the nails into Your hands at Calvary. Forgive us for looking the other way and not accepting that You did that to save us. Give us hearts of praise that we will lift up Your name and the grief and sorrows You carried for us there. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

OUR TROUBLES ARE OUT THE WINDOW

Psalm 34:19

"Many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all." ESV

So many buckle in their faith when adversity comes their way. There are always questions as to why God would allow these bad things to happen. We live in enemy territory. We are in active battle with the enemy and there are going to be setbacks and problems. Jesus Christ is our commander and it is an honor to serve Him in this world. There is no need to complain about our afflictions and waver in our trust that the Lord will deliver us completely.

Heavenly Father, how thankful we are that You are our Commander in Chief in this army against the devil. Forgive us for complaining and losing faith and trust in You when things go wrong and we are suffering. We desire to focus on You and the perfect eternity that awaits us so that these earthly afflictions will seem as nothing. We pray in Jesus name, Amen.

RESISTING EVIL

1 Peter 5:9

"Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothersthroughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings." NIV

"Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world." KJV

To be able to stand firm against the deceitful enemy and his attacks, we are to hold fast to our faith, which comes from hearing the Word and hiding it in our hearts. We are not alone in resisting evil. All Christians everywhere are experiencing the same struggles.

Heavenly Father, we cannot stand against suffering and trials on our own. We ask for Your power to resist evil in this world and use the faith You have given us to stand strong. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
