LET'S TAKE A WALK

1 John 5:18

"We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him." ESV

Are true Christians perfect? Are we free from making mistakes? Do we always obey the principles of the Word? The answer is, no. But, if we are truly children of God, the Holy Spirit will convict us when we get off track. The love and grace of God will overpower the inclination to sin. We will be alerted by the Holy Spirit and will turn back to His way. If we continue to sin and ignore the Holy Spirit's conviction, we are in danger of numbing our consciences from the voice of God.

Heavenly Father, search our hearts and reveal to us if there are any desires in our hearts that are displeasing to You. Help us to be open and obedient to the Holy Spirit. Help us to receive Your love and grace that overpowers our spiritually dangerous selfishness. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.

TO BEGIN WITH

John 1:1

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." ESV

Beginnings are always an opportunity to make changes and set goals to improve our lives. In the beginning of time, God was. If we want to have a better year, is it not evident that we choose to have God be in the driver seat, and to be number one in our lives?

Heavenly Father, we acknowledge that You are One True God, and You were there in the beginning of time. Give us hearts that desire to keep You first in our lives and allow You to have Your way in our lives. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

WHAT IS MY PURPOSE?

Acts 26:16

"But rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to your for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you." ESV

Purpose. Don't we all want to know what our own specific purpose is for being in this world? This discovery seldom occurs like it did for the Apostle Paul, a sudden, dramatic encounter with Christ telling us exactly what our purpose is. But we can take what Christ said to Paul and make it our own. Our purpose is to live and speak of the things He has already put in our hearts and be ready to do the same with those things He is going to show us. That is our purpose. How we do it will vary because we all have different life circumstances and Godly gifts.

Heavenly Father, we are humbled at the way we continue to seek Your purpose for our lives when Your Word clearly tells us. Increase our faith so that we will be prepared at any given moment to tell of Christ the wonderful things You have done in our lives. Give us discernment and understanding to see what You are going to do. We accept the commission of the purpose You have for our lives. We have nothing else to offer but ourselves. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.

LOOK AT THIS NEW THING!

Isaiah 43:18-19

"Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." ESV

It is sometimes good to reflect back over the past year to take inventory of our successes and failures. But we don't have to dwell on things that went wrong or allow things to keep us lodged in guilt and remorse. If we dedicate our lives, just as they are, to the Lord, He will take what we have and make a whole new adventure that will bring us into His will. There will be a way when we thought there was none. There will be hope when all was lost. There will be blessings when we couldn't see anything but gloom. Look, can you see what He is doing?

Heavenly Father, how we praise You for taking the ashes of our lives and making beauty. Help us to stop seeing our future by looking at our past and to start looking to You as You begin to unfold the wonderful things You are doing for us now and the coming year. In Jesus' name, Amen.

PRETENDING PURITY

Jeremiah 9:25

"Behold the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will punish all those who are circumcised merely in the flesh." ESV

Circumcision of the flesh is a physical act representing the covenant between God and His people to be a pure, separate, and holy people. The Lord has declared to us that circumcision of the heart is a personal covenant that occurs when we commit our will over to Him. We can attend church regularly, know the Bible inside and out, and talk the Christian talk, but not have hearts that have been circumcised. If that's the case, then we are merely dressed up to look like Christians; we are imposters.

Heavenly Father, search our hearts and reveal to us any false pretense, any hypocrisy, any impurity that remains in our hearts. We desire to be washed clean by the blood of Jesus Christ and to serve You with circumcised hearts. We pray in His precious name, Amen.

BE ALERT FOR FALLING ROCKS

2 John 1:8

"Watch yourselves so that you may not lose what we have worked for, but may win a full reward." ESV

There is no room for complacency in the Christian life. We are warned over and over to be alert to the dangers that destroy our faith. Living in the Spirit every day will keep us alert and ready on that day when He comes bringing the reward He promised to us.

Heavenly Father, we ask you to help us to walk in Your Holy Spirit, that we will be wise and alert. Help us to stand strong and to not fall into the things of this world that rob us of our faith. In Jesus' name,
Amen.

SMOOTH TALKERS

Isaiah 5:20

"Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter." ESV

When someone has a hardened heart, there is a lack of acknowledging and caring about the difference between right and wrong. There is no shame in sin or evil. Whatever feels right and serves the self is the guide. It is frightening to know how easy it is to get deceived by someone like this. The manner is persuasive and the talk flows smoothly and convincingly. In a moment, wrong doesn't seem so wrong, in fact, it doesn't seem wrong at all. If we are in constant fellowship with the Lord, talking to Him and reading the Word, we will have discernment when smooth, evil talkers come our way.

Heavenly Father, increase our hunger for Your Word and Your presence in our everyday lives. We stand in need of discernment in this evil world and we cannot have discernment without the fullness of Your Holy Spirit. Increase our faith, in Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
