Psalm 60:12
"With God we shall do
valiantly; it is he who will tread down our foes." ESV
There is no peace, no
overcoming our trials and tribulations in life without the grace and mercy of
God. The battle is His. If we let go and allow Him to have charge of our lives,
He will destroy every evil that tries to get in the way of our journey toward
Him.
Heavenly Father, we confess
that we take matters into our own hands when difficult times come our way. We
somehow think we can take care of things. Most often, the trials are far greater
than we are. Help us to put our faith totally in You, knowing in our hearts that
You will lead us to victory in all things. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

WATCH YOUR MOUTH
Ephesians
4:29
"Let no
corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building
up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear."
ESV
Words that come
out of our mouths may not only be unholy and profane, but the words we say can
also tear down and humiliate others. We never know who may be within hearing
distance when we speak. God hears, and He will judge us. Others will hear and
either be discouraged or be influenced to speak in the same way. We are
responsible to watch what we say.
Heavenly Father,
forgive us for speaking things that bring dishonor to the name of Christ.
Forgive us for saying words that hurt and tear down. Help us to watch our words
carefully so that we will build up and encourage, bringing honor to our Lord. In
His name we pray, Amen.

GOD'S EYES ARE ON YOU
Hebrews 4:13
"And no creature is
hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom
we must give account." ESV
Every person will have to give
an account to the living God, both those who believe and those who don't. All
actions, thoughts, and secrets are intimately know by Him. Doesn't it seem like
a wise thing to make sure all our actions, thoughts, and secrets are brought to
Him and covered by His blood?
Heavenly Father, search our
innermost being and whatever You find there that is displeasing to You, help us
to confess it, repent, and live our lives as Christ did. We pray in the precious
name of Jesus, Amen.

SO WE CAN BE RICH
2 Corinthians
8:9
"For you
know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that through he was rich, yet for your
sake he became poor, so that you by his poverty might became rich."
ESV
The riches that
Christ left to become a man on this earth were not silver and gold. They were
the eternal riches of the mysteries of God. When Christ became a man, his
poverty was living in a world of sin, greed, and turmoil. Because He willingly
and, with joy, gave up being equal with God, we will be free from this poverty
stricken world with all its trials and tribulations. We may not be rich with
material things in this world. That was not God's purpose. His purpose was for
us to enjoy eternity with Him in all the riches of the mysteries of
God.
Heavenly Father,
forgive us that we think of material things when we think of riches. We cannot
fathom all that Christ gave up to come to this earth so that we could be saved.
We praise You that He did give up all for us. Give us hearts that seek the true
riches of eternal life through Jesus Christ. In His name we pray,
Amen.

HIS WAY IS EASIER
Matthew
11:29
"Take my yoke upon you,
and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest
for your souls." ESV
In contrast to the religiosity
of the Scribes and Pharisees, the way of the spiritual life Jesus lived and
taught us is much less cumbersome and bound by traditions. His way is mild and
gentle. Jesus showed us by His life that He was not stern, overbearing, or
oppressive. It is in freedom that we walk as He did, not in obligation and
oppression.
Heavenly Father, how thankful
we are that Jesus walked this earth and showed us how to live. We praise You for
the work at the cross that freed us from sin and the law. Help us to live in the
freedom of Jesus Christ, without obligation, but with open hearts. In Jesus'
name, Amen.

DON'T BE SO SURE
1 Corinthians
10:12
"Therefore
let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall."
ESV
It is just human
nature to become a bit too relaxed when we think we are doing good. The problem
is, for those who are Christians, we have put off the old nature and have new
natures like Christ. But, we still can become content and assured in our own
strength when we are not up against trials and tribulations. Any time we feel we
are standing firm, that is the time we should be most cautious of falling into
sin and deceit.
Heavenly Father,
how we bow in need of Your forgiveness for our pride and complacency in how
strong we are spiritually. Bring to our mind that our strength lies only in You
when we begin to think we are standing strong. Protect us from falling into sin
and deception by the leading of Your Holy Spirit. We pray in the name of Jesus,
Amen.

HONESTY
Proverbs 11:1
"A false balance is an
abomination to the Lord, but a just weight is his delight." ESV
It is one thing to be openly
and unashamedly dishonest and unfair. But is is far worse to pretend to be
honest while hiding and disguising the face of dishonesty. God detests the
intention to deceive by those cunningly trying to make themselves look truthful
and innocent. They are wolves in sheep's clothing. It is no wonder our Great
Shepherd detests them. And it is necessary that we pray for discernment to
recognize them and expose them.
Heavenly Father, please search
our hearts to reveal any dishonesty in us so that we can repent of it. We pray
for discernment to recognize dishonesty wherever it appears. Help us to be
consistent with honesty and honest living so that we will be productive
witnesses for Your kingdom. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
