WALKING AND WARRING

2 Corinthians 10:3

"For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh." ESV

Every day of our lives, we are in spiritual warfare. When things of this world come against us, we don't fight them as the world does. As Christians, we use the power of truth and Godly wisdom to bring about the Holy Spirit's conviction into the hearts of unbelievers.

Lord, help us to remember that we fight a different battle than the world does. Give us discernment to know when there are spiritual strongholds and what we need to do to destroy them. In Your gracious name we pray, Amen.

DOUBLE WAR

Romans 7:23

"But I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members." ESV

There are two laws opposing each other within us at all times. There is God's law, which is His Holy Spirit guiding us into truth, and there is the law of sin, which seeks to satisfy our physical senses and desires. If we do nothing with this conflict, our natural desires will automatically have precedence. Submission to the Holy Spirit will allow us to grow in grace and truth, being more like Christ.

Lord, how we need Your grace and mercy as we live each day in this conflict between Your will and our own wills. Help us to be open and willing vessels to Your will. In Your great name we pray, Amen.

AND THE BATTLE GOES ON

  Galatians 5:16
"But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do." ESV

As Christians, we are constantly in a battle between what our own desires want and the Holy Spirit's desire that lives within us. Do we recognize the difference between the two? Do we consciously listen to the Holy Spirit and choose to follow Him? If we don't, our human desires will lead us to things that destroy us physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Heavenly Father, we bow humbly before you asking for strength, wisdom, and discernment to follow the leading of Your Holy Spirit. We know then, that we will win each battle and that we will not sin against You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

THE INTERNAL CONFLICT

Romans 7:22,23
"For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members." NIV

"For I delight in the law of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members." KJV

Are we aware that there is a conflict within us? This conflict is between the desire to do those things that are good and pleasing to our Lord and the desire to do those things that are pleasing and satisfying to our own selves. These two things are in direct conflict with one another and they are something with which we all struggle. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can exercise the power of God within us to love and do what is good and right in His eyes, while overthrowing the natural inclination of doing things our own way.

Heavenly Father, how we become weary with battling between doing what You will for us to do and doing what we want to do. We know that giving in to our selves is easy and we need the fullness of Your Holy Spirit to overcome the selfishness in us and to desire doing that which pleases You. Help us win this battle when it arises so that You will be glorified in us. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
