HOW DO WE PRAY WITHOUT STOPPING?

Ephesians 6:18

". . .praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints." ESV

No matter how well we have put on the armor, it's effectiveness is only secured with prayer. Praying without ceasing is like taking our phones with us everywhere we go. If we need to make a call or someone needs to call us, we are equipped to make it happen. Ceaseless prayer in an ongoing communication with our Lord and includes praise, thanksgiving, praying for others, seeking guidance, and asking for our needs. Ceaseless prayer enables us to be alert to the evil one, who finds the tiniest opportunity to get to us. Never stop praying.

Heavenly Father, we ask forgiveness for being too busy to keep the lines of communication open with You. Help us to pray, to always remain in the spirit of prayer, so that we can hear Your voice and always be ready to commune with You. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

RECIPE FOR FREEDOM AND PEACE OF MIND

Job 42:10

"And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job, when he prayed for his friends. And the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before." ESV

Someone in our lives has wronged us, hurt us, betrayed us, caused us grief. Our human nature responds with resentment and anger. The truth is, if we are merciful to those who have wronged us, and we pray for them, the Lord will show us mercy and release us from the chains of resentment and anger. His Word says He will show us mercy in the same way we show mercy to others.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for allowing our natural emotions to fill our hearts with resentment and anger when we are wronged by others. Help us to open our hearts to Your Holy Spirit who will give us the desire to pray for them, show mercy to them, and free us from the cage of resentment, anger, and the desire to get even. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.

WILLING SPIRITS, WEAK FLESH

Matthew 26:41

"Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." ESV

It requires both watchfulness and prayer to help us resist temptation. Temptation comes in small everyday ways as well as clear and evil ways. It's those small temptations that can just slip into our lives like a seed in the ground and grow until we are in full blown sin.

Heavenly Father, we know You fully understand our weaknesses. Help us to know and understand them so that we can be more watchful and prayerful about them. Show us the small temptations that we fail to resist, but that are dangerous to our spiritual lives. We pray this in Jesus' name, Amen.

SHARING AND PRAYING

James 5:16

"Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." NIV

"Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." KJV

When we admit our faults and shortcomings to each other, it clears our minds and strengthens us to trust in the Lord for grace to be more like Him. Praying for one another promotes Godly love, empathy, and accountability. Even more, it promotes healing as God always responds to the powerful and earnest prayers of His righteous ones.

Heavenly Father, we do not do a very good job of admitting our sins to ourselves, much less to confess them to our brothers and sisters in Christ. Stir our hearts to make us aware of the sin in our lives and give us courage to share with those who will pray earnestly with us so that we may be healed of the damage of sin in our lives. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.

INTENTIONS ARE WORTHLESS

Matthew 26:41
"Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak." (NIV)

"Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak." (KJV)

We all have good and noble intentions. The problem is that intentions are seldom accompanied by constant awareness, prayer, and action. Intentions have no power. Our power to overcome and accomplish is made real through the Holy Spirit by prayer and being on guard against the enemy. We need commitment rather than intentions to allow the Lord to give our spirit the power to overcome our weaknesses.

Heavenly Father, search our hearts and help us recognize the intentions within us that sit dormant and useless. Pour out Your Spirit in our hearts so that we will commit ourselves to doing Your will instead of intending to do it. Forgive us for our spiritual laziness and make us more like our Lord. We pray in His name, Amen.
