HIDDEN HORROR AND SHAME

Proverbs 26:24,25

"Whoever hates disguises himself with his lips and harbors deceit in his heart; when he speaks graciously, believe him not, for there are seven abominations in his heart." ESV

Some people can make themselves look very wonderful, giving, and charming.  Without the gift of discernment, most of us will believe these people and get blind-sided by their evil ways. In this day and age, discernment of deception should be on the priority list for every Christian. The Word says that in the last days, even the very elect will be deceived. There is a great battle for the souls of every living human. We don't have time to get caught in the snares of people around us who are wolves in sheep's clothing.

Heavenly Father, oh how we need the gift of discernment. Forgive us for being complacent about about the world around us. Give us the true sense of the urgency that exists in this world of deception that will take us to eternal darkness. Help us be aware of those around us who seem wonderful on the outside, but have deep hatred and bitterness in their hearts. We trust in You, Lord, to fill us with Your Holy Spirit that will guide us into all truth. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

CHOKING ON WORRY

Matthew 13:22

"As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful." ESV

When unbelievers hear the Gospel, the evil one stands ready to keep it from taking root and becoming productive. This happens to Christians more often than we think. We know the Word, but when a serious problem comes our way, we focus on the problem and choke out the Word that brings us faith and courage. Worrying and fretting only chokes the precious Word of God in us and allows us to be fearful and overwhelmed. If we do as the Bible tells us and we hide the Word in our hearts, we will not be overtaken by our problems.

Heavenly Father, forgive us allowing our problems to choke out the Word in our hearts. Help us to hide Your Word in our hearts where we will be ready for trying times and will not choke on worry and fear. We ask in Jesus' name, Amen.

HIDING SIN WITH SWEETNESS

Proverbs 26:24,25

"Whoever hates disguises himself with his lips and harbors deceit in his heart; when he speaks graciously, believe him not, for there are seven abominations in his heart." ESV

Evil people use kind and gracious words to make them appear to be something they are not and to deceive others. Evil is so good at appearing like angels of light that even the most spiritual of persons can be easily deceived. We are strongly warned to look at the fruit produced by a person and not just listen to their words. The sweet talk of an evil man hides detestable things which God hates. Watch their walk, it over rides their talk.

Heavenly Father, how we are in need of discernment and protection from evil ones who are all around us with sweet and kind words coming from their lips. Give us awareness of their actions so that we can know whether evil is being hidden in their hearts behind the nice words. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.
