GIVING THANKS NO MATTER WHAT

1 Thessalonians 5:18

"Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." NIV

"In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." KJV

We are not encouraged to give thanks to God for every circumstance, even those that take our health, take away loved ones, or cause us to lose our livelihood and financial stability. But we are encouraged to give thanks to God "in" all these circumstances. We thank Him in spite of the bad and because of the good. That is His will for us because, if we are trusting that He works all things out for our good, we have much for which to be thankful. When bad things come our way, we can focus on the work God is doing in our lives and know that we will come through this victoriously and closer to being like Him. That in itself should make our hearts rejoice.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for keeping our eyes fixed on the problems that we face and forget that You are working these things through our lives so that we will be more mature and more like Jesus Christ. We thank You for being with us in all things and not having to go through them alone. Give us hearts of thanksgiving in all things, no matter what they are. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
