Matthew 7:12
"So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." NIV
"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." KJV
Treating others in the same way we want to be treated is easy when we are dealing with people who are good to us. Jesus knew this and He knew what would happen if we obeyed this wisdom. Treating others like we want them to treat us puts to death such things as pride, vengeance, spite, crushing another's spirit, and manipulation, among many other things. Living this teaching of Jesus releases love, healing, joy, and mended relationships. The Golden Rule is the law of love and a practical way to live out the second greatest commandment, "Love your neighbor as yourself."
Heavenly Father, it is so hard to treat difficult, hurtful, and unfriendly people like we want to be treated, because we want to be treated well. Forgive us for treating others like we think they deserve to be treated. Forgive us for adding to the negativity and evil of this world by the way we treat others. Help us to show the love of God in all our actions toward others and help us to leave the actions of others in Your hands. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
