JUST KEEP GOING

Hebrews 10:35,36

"Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have the the will of God you may receive what is promised." ESV

Life in our world today can be so difficult and wearisome. It's no wonder many Christians, become complacent and weak in their walk. Rather than focusing on how bad things are for us and questioning God, it would be to our advantage to keep ourselves in God's hands and to trust fully in Him to be with us. Perseverance will insure that we are victorious and that we receive the reward God has reserved in heaven for us.

Heavenly Father, how we stand in need of Your forgiveness for letting this world get to us and for allowing ourselves to become weak and vulnerable to the evil one. Fill us with the power and anticipation to persevere until that day You bring us home. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

EVERYBODY ELSE IS DOING IT

1 Peter 5:9

"Resist him (the devil), firm in your faith, knowing that the same kinds of suffering are being experienced by your brotherhood throughout the world." ESV

There are times when very difficult things come to us. Some people have extreme tragedy. But these attacks in life come to everyone in some way or another. Yet, we groan and complain, we ask God why He is doing this to us. After all didn't He allow it? Jesus Himself told us that we would have tribulation in this world. The Word tells us it is the devil that just prowls around looking for someone to attack. His hope is that we will get mad at God, continue on in our misery, and be ineffective witnesses. As Christians, it is not our duty to pray for escape from Satan's attacks. It is our responsibility to resist the devil's scheme to get us to give up our faith. We are all in this battle and we may get wounded, but the battle is the Lord's. He will take care of us and all those Christians around the world who are going through the same things.

Heavenly Father, the consequences of sin and living in a cursed world is such that we allow ourselves to forget that we are not of this world, and we will incur wounds and scars here. Forgive us for self pity and groaning. Help us remember that all our Christian brothers and sisters are going through the same things. We know what lies ahead for us, help us to think about that. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

GOT MERCY?

Colossians 3:13

"Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also much forgive." ESV

Are we really honest about the resentment, anger, or bitterness we are holding toward others? Do we realize that we are not only capable, but most likely guilty of doing the same kinds of things they did to hurt us? If we choose to hold on to resentment and anger, we are nothing more than hypocrites throwing stones. If we forgive with mercy and grace, we are walking in Christ's footsteps. We will receive the same mercy we have given.

Heavenly Father, forgiving those who have wronged and hurt us is such a hard thing to do. It humbles us to say we don't have to have You search our hearts very far to find the resentment and anger we have held fast in our hearts. Help us to hold fast to the abundant stream of mercy and grace that constantly flows from Your heart so that we will have peace and joy in forgiving those we have not allowed ourselves to forgive. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

GROUND IN DIRT

Proverbs 30:12

"There are those who are clean in their own eyes but are not washed of their filth." ESV

We've all known people who fail to have a regular shower routine, but tend to get by with putting on a clean change of clothes, putting on cologne, and rearranging their hair. That may give them confidence to believe they are clean, because they have covered up the un-bathed body. There is a more critical and eternal deception taking place in the spiritual lives of so many. On the outside they have the "Christian" lingo down, can quote scriptures, say beautiful prayers, and conduct themselves very reverently. They believe they are "safe" with God because they are outwardly being Godly. The fact is, they have never changed on the inside and still carry the filth of sin in their lives. It comes out in one way or another and can be clearly seen by a true discerning believer of Christ. These people who only look clean on the outside are the "white washed tombs" Jesus spoke about.

Heavenly Father, reveal to our own hearts if there is any filth lying hidden within us or that we are unwilling to admit. Cleanse our hearts so that we will be clean vessels, ready and prepared to be your faithful servants. Help us to be salt and light, allowing the conviction of the Holy Spirit to those who are only clean on the outside. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

IS YOUR TONGUE SHOWING?

James 3:5

"So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire!" ESV

Isn't it amazing that the tongue is small and rests hidden inside the mouth? If the size of the tongue and the place it rests were equal to its power, it would be the largest part of the body. It would be the first and maybe only part of us others would see. The tongue is incredibly powerful. It carries out of us the things we are thinking, intending, and believing. It can encourage and lift up or it can tear down and destroy. But....praise be to the Lord that He has given us the ability and the choice to control it.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for choosing to let our tongues speak things that are not pleasing to You and that are hurtful to those around us. Forgive us for allowing our tongues to be our sword instead of the sword of the Spirit, Your Word. Help us to use wisdom, discernment, and patience before we speak so that our words will be pleasing to You. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

STIR IT

Hebrews 10:24

"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works." ESV

When a fire is built, then left to take it's natural course, it will eventually die out. For a fire to keep burning to produce the warmth, light, and heat to cook our food, it has to be maintained. The fire needs to be tended, wood needs to be collected, the embers need to be stirred for the new wood to catch the flame. So it is with our faith and the fruit it produces. The Body of Christ is a living fire. We are the Body of Christ. Our faith must be maintained by reading of the Word. We are to go about our lives stirring the faith of other believers. The Church lit with the fire of faith, stirred and ready, will produce the Godly readiness to accept new babes in Christ, so that they will catch the flames of faith.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for neglecting our own faith as well as the faith of our fellow Christians. Open our hearts to accept the fire of the Holy Spirit so that we will stir the embers of our faith and produce the fruit of love toward our family of God and be ready for those You bring in to the Family. In Christ's name we pray, Amen.

WISE GUYS

Proverbs 3:7

"Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil." ESV

If we allow ourselves to be guided by our own human wisdom, we will find ourselves falling short, missing the mark, and headed down the wrong street. If we trust in the Lord's wisdom, even when we don't understand it, we will find peace, strength, and refreshment.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for trying to get through some things in this life guided by our own wisdom. We thank You that You have given us minds that can think, reason, and learn. But we can only do these things through our senses and our senses tell us about what we are experiencing right now. We cannot know what is going to happen tomorrow, or what others are doing today that might affect us. Help us to open up to receive the fullness of Your Holy Spirit so that Your wisdom will guide us, even when we don't understand. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
