James 4:3
"You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to
spend it on your passions." ESV
Prayer is a precious gift from God in which we can
communicate with Him freely and openly. Are we using prayer as an opportunity to
tell God what we think He should do. And then, when He does not answer, do we
become angry, discouraged with Him and complain that He does not really care? Do
we really consider what we pray? If we truly search our hearts, we will find the
real motive for our prayers. It is our true motives in asking God to meet our
wants and needs that will determine whether we receive or not.
Heavenly Father, forgive us for getting so wrapped up in
the cares of this world that we pray to You with only our own agenda in mind.
You know what our needs are before we ask. Help us to pray as our Lord Jesus
prayed. In this way, we will be glorifying You, drawing closer to You, and You
will take care of all our needs. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
