Ephesians
2:8,9
"For by grace you have
been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
not a result of works, so that no one may boast." ESV
We did not seek to
be saved from sin. While we were bankrupt and dead spiritually, God, in His
infinite grace, sought us out and provided the way for us to be freed from the
strongholds of sin. How then, can anyone believe that being "good" and following
rules, and doing any works of kindness, can result in right standing with the
Almighty God? Believing in the Lord Jesus Christ and His sacrifice for us is all
that we can do. None of us can take any credit for our salvation or our eternal
inheritance with God. Was the thief on the cross near Jesus saved because he
deserved it? Was the donkey pulled out of the mud pit on the Sabbath because he
was special?
Heavenly Father, we confess no
other other way to right standing with You but by the precious blood of Jesus
Christ. In His name we pray, Amen.
