Ephesians 6:12
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." NIV
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." KJV
Why is it urgent that we put on this armor? What are the schemes of the devil? We are not fighting against people in our lives who cause us trouble and heartache. Nor are we fighting against our own frailties and issues. We are standing strong against Satan and his own full structured government. His kingdom, made up of demons, resides in and among the darker parts of the world that have not been reached with the Gospel. Satan's armies hover throughout the skies in an attempt to keep us from communion with our God. God's kingdom is light. Satan's kingdom is dark. When it is dark we cannot see. When we are battling dark spirits it is easy to mistake them for light because the enemy subtly makes them look very much like God's kingdom. With the armor of God protecting us, we will be able to know when it is Satan trying to trick us. Can we now see how urgent it is to put on God's armor?
Heavenly Father, help us to understand the seriousness of putting on Your armor. Give us discernment to know when we are being tricked by Satan and his evil schemes. Bring to our minds that we are not fighting against people, but against the spiritual darkness that is in and around them. We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
