DECISION MAKING 101

Jeremiah 6:16

"Thus says the Lord; 'Stand by the roads, and look, and ask for the ancient paths, where the good way is; and walk in it, and find rest for your souls.' But they said, 'We will not walk in it.'" ESV

There will be times when we come to crossroads or major decisions that will have far reaching impact on our lives and the lives of others. The Lord tell us look at the way the followers of God in the Bible made decisions. They got on their faces before God until they heard from Him, and by doing so, they have worn a proven path that leads to peace and rest for the soul. Jesus, Himself, took that road. So walk as He did.

Heavenly Father, so often we look at earthly consequences of decisions we have to make. We try to get the best deal for ourselves in the choices we make. Forgive us for our selfish ways. Help us to live like Christ and those who walked in His footsteps. We thank You for the peace and rest that will give us. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

GOT SALVATION? GOT STRENGTH?

Isaiah 30:15

"For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, 'In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.' But you were unwilling." ESV

We all want the benefits God has promised to those who trust and obey Him. Sadly, many of us are not willing to do the thing that will guarantee that happening. We don't want to let go of our own control of things, our possessions, our own ways. There is only one way we will have eternal life and the strength to get through this earthly life. It is by repenting and trusting in the Lord Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. It's the only way.

Heavenly Father, search our hearts and show us those places we have not allowed You full control. It may not be what we want to see, but help us to see beyond that to the great eternal reward that waits for us. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

HIS WAY IS EASIER

Matthew 11:29

"Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." ESV

In contrast to the religiosity of the Scribes and Pharisees, the way of the spiritual life Jesus lived and taught us is much less cumbersome and bound by traditions. His way is mild and gentle. Jesus showed us by His life that He was not stern, overbearing, or oppressive. It is in freedom that we walk as He did, not in obligation and oppression.

Heavenly Father, how thankful we are that Jesus walked this earth and showed us how to live. We praise You for the work at the cross that freed us from sin and the law. Help us to live in the freedom of Jesus Christ, without obligation, but with open hearts. In Jesus' name, Amen.
