Romans 7:22,23
"For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at
work in the members of my body,
waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members."
NIV
"For I delight in the law
of God after the inward man: But I see another law in my members, warring
against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin
which is in my members." KJV
Are
we aware that there is a conflict within us? This conflict is between the desire
to do those things that are good and pleasing
to our Lord and the desire to do those things
that are pleasing and satisfying to our own selves. These two things are in
direct conflict with one another and they are something with which we all
struggle. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we
can exercise the power of God within us to love and do what is good and right in His eyes, while overthrowing the natural
inclination of doing things our own way.
Heavenly Father,
how we become weary with battling between doing what You will for us to do and
doing what we want to do. We know that giving in to our selves is easy and we
need the fullness of Your Holy Spirit to overcome the selfishness in us and to
desire doing that which pleases You. Help us win this battle when it arises so
that You will be glorified in us. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
