1 Peter 2:1
"Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit,
hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind." NIV
"Wherefore laying aside
all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil
speakings."
The
Word of God is clear about getting rid of all remnants of the old life.
This includes attitudes of the heart, such as:
unholy ill will, intentional dishonesty, false
spiritual appearances, resentful jealousy, and malicious gossip. These things linger and will surface if we do not
make a clean break with our life as it was before we accepted Christ.
Heavenly Father,
we stand in need of Your grace to get rid of the old things in our lives that
keep us separated from You. Help us to be aware that these old ways will crop up
in our lives again and again, but that You will help us by the power of the Holy
Spirit within us. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.
