DON'T DWELL ON THE PAST

Isaiah 43:18, 19

"Forget the former things; Do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; Do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland." NIV

"Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert." KJV

As humans, it is natural for us to allow our minds to think of all the things that have gone on in our lives, be it good or bad. Unfortunately, it seems the bad things stand out and we tend to dwell on those. For all the bad things for which we were in control, we have confessed and repented, knowing our Lord has forgiven us and remembers those sins no more. For the bad things over which we had no control, our Lord provides healing and restoration along with giving us the gift of forgiveness toward those who were responsible. So we don't have to dwell on the bad things of the past. God has taken care of all of it. He tells us to look ahead at all the wonderful, marvelous things He is going to do in our lives and our world. What a wonderful way to start a new year! Looking ahead to the miraculous works our God is doing.

Heavenly Father, forgive us for dwelling on the past, especially allowing ourselves to feel guilty about past sins. How we praise You for taking care of our pasts for us. Help us to look ahead with courage and faith, so that we can take part in the great plan You are unfolding for us just ahead. In Jesus' name, Amen.
