SALT OF THE EARTH

We are all aware that salt is a primary ingredient used
to enhance the flavor of food. Actually, the principle use
of salt is to prevent rotting and decay. Historically, salt
is a symbol of purity. Impure salt lacks flavor and is
basically useless. Salt that is pure has been touched by
the hand of God, the Creator of the Universe. Pure salt must
have contact with a source before it is effective. It works,
gradually, quietly, and unnoticed. We are to live like pure
salt in a rotting world so that its decay is delayed and the
Gospel of Jesus Christ can continue to reach every living
person on the earth.

Read Matthew 5:13

"You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its
saltiness, how can it be made salty again?
It is no longer good for anything, except to be
thrown out and trampled by men." (NIV)

"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost
his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? It is thenceforth
good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden
under foot of men." (KJV)

This is such a good reminder of how vital salt is. Months ago, I could not keep salt in my body, and at the time I could barely put on foot in front of the other. My hands shriveled up as though I was 95. I couldn't concentrate or remember anything. Thank God, I am well now. It clearly showed me, though, if we lose our salt, we're in a dangerous place.

I didn't know salt prevents decay...I want to be that kind of salt but I know I'm not always. Good reminder

So true. Where would we be in this world without salt. I love that we are called to be salt to a decaying world. Thank you for sharing this thoughtful post.
