SPIRITUAL ASSAULT WEAPONS

2 Corinthians 10:4

"For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds." ESV

What is this fight? It is Satan's desperate attempts to lure us away for God. The battle is won or lost in our own minds through our thoughts and reactions to things that go on around us. If we are committed to Christ, our weapons for this fight are divinely powerful and will destroy any hold with which Satan tries to have over us!

Lord, we need Your help to discern Satan's subtle attacks and strongholds. Give us wisdom and understanding of his tactics so that we can see them for what they are. Help us use the faith You have given us to use Your diving power to overcome evil's power in our lives. In Your omnipotent name we pray, Amen.

CREATIVE DESIGN OR SCIENTIFIC THEORY

Hebrews 11:3

"By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible." ESV

We know that our great and awesome God created the universe by the power of His Word. There is an opposing "theory" that claims substantial evidence that the universe came about by a random explosive force of matter. Those who believe this latter "theory" cannot explain from where the matter or the force came. As Christians, we are lavished with faith to know the magnificent Truth.

Lord, how blessed we are to serve the One who made all things by speaking them into existence. Help us to keep that faith burning so the world will know the Truth. In Your all powerful name, Amen.

NO BIG DEAL

Revelation 3:15,16

"I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth." ESV

As humans, there is always a conflict between our human nature and our redeemed spirit. It is our choice as to which is more present in our lives. When we give equal reign to both, we become lukewarm. We can't seem to make the commitment that gets us off the fence. Until we get off that fence and on that narrow path with the Lord, it is just as though we have rejected Him. He is disgusted at our half heartedness and will cast us away.

Lord, we know we cannot serve two masters. Forgive us for allowing ourselves to become complacent, lukewarm. Set our hearts on fire by the power of the Holy Spirit so that we will honor You. In Your awesome name we pray, Amen.

WAITING

Psalm 130:5

"I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope." ESV

We don't have the privilege of doing what those did, who saw Jesus, running after Him, wanting desperately to just catch a glimpse. We do have the privilege of waiting for Him, seeking to be near Him, basking in His love. Like those who came near Him were healed and made whole, by waiting, we will find Him close by, meeting all our needs.

Lord, help us to wait so that the power of Your Word reaches down to the depths of our souls. In Your wonderful name we pray, Amen.

CLEAN CLOTHES

Colossians 3:12

"Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience." ESV

A lot is revealed about us by the clothes we wear. People judge our character and status in life by our clothes and accessories. What our inner selves wear is also very revealing about who we are. If we clothe our hearts with Godly things, we will be identified with Christ. We wear these holy garments because we belong to Him. He lavished this wonderful attire at a very great and gracious price so that our shame would never be seen again.

Lord, there is nothing we can do to repay the wonderful gift You have freely given us. Give us grace to wear the clothes of the Holy Spirit so that others will be drawn to You. In Your great name we pray, Amen.

STOP IT

Philippians 2:14 "Do all things without grumbling or disputing." ESV

What is grumbling? It is expressing discontent, complaining, unhappy muttering or growling. What is disputing? It is arguing, debating, quarreling, fighting. God's Word says don't do it. So stop it!

Lord, forgive us for having hearts that cause us to grumble and quarrel. Make us aware when we start to do this and help us stop before it leaves our lips. We pray this in Your gracious name, Amen.

TO THE READERS OF DAILY GRACE

Isaiah 43:18,19 "Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert." ESV

Daily Grace began in August 2008. Over the years, this daily devotion has taken many different styles and forms, but always seeking to conform to the Word of God. As we follow Him, He leads us out into new places, fully trusting Him to lead and guide. I believe He has opened new doors for me to enter. Therefore, Daily Grace will not be continuing after March 31, 2015. I am excited about the things the Lord has in store for you and for me.

There are many inspired and anointed devotionals available that will take you further into the Word of God and spiritual maturity. I am providing links to some of those I believe will accomplish that purpose. I will, on occasion, post something here as the Lord inspires me to do so.

God bless every one of you and I pray you will be filled with hunger for Christ and be equipped for every good work for which He calls you.

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Ephesians 2:22

"In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit." ESV

Imagine making a collage of very meaningful and highly related things from many different sources. That is what the Church, the Body of Christ, the dwelling place of God is like. He gathers those of us who have repented and believed in Him. Together, we are a holy dwelling place where God dwells and brings His plan to fruition. If we could see this wonderful dwelling place in its entirety, we would be amazed the power and glory He has poured out on us to do His will.

Lord, please help us to be aware and equipped as members of Your dwelling place. Let us be conduits of Your power. In Your magnificent name we pray, Amen.

TRAINING FOR THE PRIZE

1 Corinthians 9:25

"Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable." ESV
Olympic hopefuls spend hours every day perfecting the necessary physical moves and sharpening their concentration to perfection. Like all other things in this world, their bodies will deteriorate and their gold medals will perish. As Christians, how much more should we be training for that eternal reward in heaven. We will win the everlasting prize of sitting forever at His feet.

Lord, thank You for giving us all we need to win the prize of eternal life. Help us to be diligent as we go through this life so that when we stand before You on that day we will hear You say, "Well done, good and faithful servant." In Your eternal name we pray, Amen.

WALKING AND WARRING

2 Corinthians 10:3

"For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh." ESV

Every day of our lives, we are in spiritual warfare. When things of this world come against us, we don't fight them as the world does. As Christians, we use the power of truth and Godly wisdom to bring about the Holy Spirit's conviction into the hearts of unbelievers.

Lord, help us to remember that we fight a different battle than the world does. Give us discernment to know when there are spiritual strongholds and what we need to do to destroy them. In Your gracious name we pray, Amen.

DOUBLE WAR

Romans 7:23

"But I see in my members another law waging war against the law of my mind and making me captive to the law of sin that dwells in my members." ESV

There are two laws opposing each other within us at all times. There is God's law, which is His Holy Spirit guiding us into truth, and there is the law of sin, which seeks to satisfy our physical senses and desires. If we do nothing with this conflict, our natural desires will automatically have precedence. Submission to the Holy Spirit will allow us to grow in grace and truth, being more like Christ.

Lord, how we need Your grace and mercy as we live each day in this conflict between Your will and our own wills. Help us to be open and willing vessels to Your will. In Your great name we pray, Amen.

HEART'S DELIGHT

Psalm 40:8

"I delight to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart." ESV

If we are "doing" things for God, and we feel obligated, just doing our duty, then we are not really doing anything for Him at all. Doing Godly things because we know we're supposed to is living by the law. Doing God's will from a pure and willing heart brings delight to our souls no matter how difficult His will is for us. It is knowing God is pleased that brings us joy.

Lord, we ask for Your forgiveness when we do things that we feel obligated to do or that give us applaud from others. Give us pure and willing hearts to serve Your because You are worthy of all we have to give. In Your name we pray, Amen.

WHO DID ALL THIS?

Colossians 1:16

"For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities--all things were created through him and for him." ESV

Jesus Christ is the creator of all things. He created all by Himself and because of Himself. There was no other force to encourage or motivate Him. The universe and all things known and unknown were made by the eternal, unlimited, uncreated God, Jesus Christ. He is the One who set aside His place as God, humbled Himself, and became a living human being. He did this in order to be the sinless sacrifice for our sins.

Lord, we are incapable of fully knowing the greatness of Your power and majesty. Neither can we realize the tremendous sacrifice You made for us at the cross. We humbly pray to walk pleasing in Your site. In Your magnificent name we pray, Amen.

WHAT GOES UP MUST COME DOWN

Obadiah 1:4

"Though you soar aloft like an eagle, though your nest is set among the stars, from there I will bring you down, declares the Lord." ESV

It is a tragic deception to think that material blessings are evidence of being favored and blessed by God. God's favor and disfavor are not measured by material things, success, failure, and tragedy. Those who are financially and socially acceptable tend to get focused on the blessings and become proud of their achievements. The Word states that pride come before a fall. No matter how blessed we are pride will cause us to fall. The more our Lord blesses us, the more we much walk in humility. If we don't, God will bring us down and humble us.

Lord, forgive us for being proud of and taking credit for the many things we have accomplished. Help us to always remember Who provided the blessing. We pray humbly that we would be aware of where we stand in comparison to You. In Your gracious name we pray, Amen.

REALLY BELIEVE THAT?

Job 42:2

"I know that you can do all things, and that no purpose of yours can be thwarted." ESV

If we really believe that nothing is impossible with God, then why do we question Him or think He has turned away from us in times of trouble? We are in an uncomfortable place. We can't see what He is doing. We thought we knew how things were going to work out, but God has a different plan. We cannot understand His ways or purposes. But, we can patiently wait in peaceful anticipation, no matter what is happening, that He will complete His work and we will always be in the palm of His hand.

Lord, forgive us for questioning Your faithfulness to us. Help us to use the faith You have given to us so that we can wait and trust You to take care of it all. In Your omnipotent name, Amen.

CAN WE SEE?

Acts 1:9

"And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight." ESV

What a great honor to have been among that group of followers who saw our Lord ascend up into heaven. Since we have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit, we can witness the great work He is doing around us every day. How honored we are! We could be the very ones who will be eyewitnesses to His return.

Lord, thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit. We know You will return to earth for Your own. Until then, help us to stay alert to Your working in our every day lives and to look forward to Your return. In Yours glorious name we pray, Amen.

ATTACHED

John 15:5

"I am the vine; you are the branches.
Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing." ESV

The vine keeps the whole plant rooted, stable, and nourished. It is the source of life for the branches and the fruit that is produced. A branch that is severed from the vine will not survive. If we are not attached to Jesus Christ, we cannot survive spiritually. We are totally dependent on Him for our very lives, our stability, and our spiritual food. If we cut ourselves off from Him, all we will have left on which to survive is this cursed world and our own strength. Without Him, we are like dead, fallen branches.

Lord, thank You for allowing us to be part of You, because we have all we will ever need. In Your name we pray, Amen.

OPEN UP YOUR EYES AND LOOK

John 4:35

"Do you not say, 'There are yet four months, then comes the harvest'? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest." ESV

Are we looking up? Or are we plodding along unaware, thinking we need to get our lives in shape so we can serve God? We have to look around us now! There are lost people looking for the Answer we have. We don't travel to the harvest field. We live in the middle of it. We serve now, where we are, with what we have. The Lord will supply all we need. The harvest is ready. Our eyes should be searching for the smallest opportunity to answer His call.

Lord, forgive us for going about our daily lives with our eyes closed to the great harvest field of souls that need You. Keep our hearts, minds, and eyes ready to share the Gospel message at all times. In Your great name we pray, Amen.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

Isaiah 33:6

"And he will be the stability of your times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is Zion's treasure." ESV

Fearing the Lord is giving total respect to His divine authority. Do we have true fear of the Lord? Is so, we have access to His vast storehouse of blessings, His wisdom, His knowledge, His power. Can we grasp what glorious treasures He longs to give us, if we will give to Him the glory and honor that belongs to Him?

Lord, we offer up to You all honor, glory, and praise for Your almighty splendor and unequalled magnificence. We are humbled by Your gift of free access to all Your blessings, Your knowledge, and Your wisdom. Help us to be clothed with the righteousness from Jesus' own blood, so that we will have the key to Your unfathomable riches. In Your glorious name we pray, Amen.

SAWDUST AND PLANKS

Luke 6:37

"Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven." ESV

We are guilty of examining our own lives with our eyes half open followed by a string of excuses. Can we see that this keeps us from having to discipline ourselves, to get rid those things that need to be out of our lives? We are guilty of making it even worse by putting on our spiritual magnifying glasses and prideful judge robes so we can scour and scan the smallest faults in others. If we don't get ourselves back in line with Christ, He will judge us with the same method we used to judge others.

Lord, forgive us for being so quick to minimize our own faults and exaggerate the faults of others. Give us hearts that cover a multitude of sins and eyes that cannot discern sawdust specks from planks. Imprint in our hearts that all sin is rebellion. In Your holy and all wise name we pray, Amen.

THE NUMBER ONE NAME

Psalm 29:2

"Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name; worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness." ESV

To ascribe is to acknowledge the source or owner of something. God's name is the source of all that is love, wisdom, and power. We are to honor His name as such in our worship and in our daily walk. Our worship is not dependent on our display of worship that others see. Our worship is counted as holy when our hearts are clean and humble.

Lord, You are the source of all things good and holy. May we bring honor to Your name at all times. And, help us to always come to You with clean and humble hearts. In Your magnificent name we pray, Amen.

OUR ADDRESS IS GOD'S ARMS

Deuteronomy 33:27

"The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms. And he thrust out the enemy before you and said, 'Destroy.'" ESV

We know that faith comes from hearing the Word. Our faith shows our ability to place our lives in God's hands. He cradles us in His eternal arms. As long as we choose to stay in His arms, we are safe from having to hide from His sight. His arms keep us from falling. They keep us from danger. They keep us!

Lord, all praise to You for Your everlasting arms that hold us and protect us. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that we will know when we are trying to get out of Your arms to check out our own ideas and agendas. We know that we are safe in Your everlasting arms. In Your almighty name we pray, Amen.
