I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR YOU

Philippians 2:4 "Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others." ESV

We all have things we want to get done, people we want to see, things we need to finish. So does the rest of the world. The difference for us as Christians is that we set aside our own agendas to help someone else with theirs. Jesus Christ knew when to withdraw to Himself and to be in the company with just His disciples. But, He never failed to simply stop what He was doing to tend to the lives of others.

Lord, how selfish we have become with our time, our money, our talents! Forgive us! Fill us with hearts of compassion and generosity to be moved from our own interests to help in the lives of others. In Your name we pray, Amen.

WE STILL OFFER SACRIFICES?

Psalm 50:23

"The one who offers thanksgiving as his sacrifice glorifies me; to one who orders his way rightly I will show the salvation of God." ESV

How can thanking God be a sacrifice? We cannot give anything to God that isn't already His, except our genuine, heart felt, pure thankfulness for who He is. That's going beyond anything we own, any money we give, any works, and any consideration of ourselves.

Lord, forgive us for speaking words of gratitude to You because we are expected to or because we want others to see how spiritual we are. Do not hold it against us when we feel our gratitude is satisfied by our efforts, time, and money we give. It is because of who You are that we give thanks. Amen.

NO GRIPING!

1 Thessalonians 5:18 "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." ESV

Would this scripture mean that we are not to complain or grumble in a frustrating situation?

Lord, help us become acutely aware of our attitudes in all circumstances, even the awful ones, and give us a thankful heart because You are working all things out for our good. In Your name we pray, Amen.

THANKFUL 24/7?

Ephesians 5:20

"Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ." ESV

The Apostle Paul is telling us to be thankful all the time and for every thing. How can we do that when so many stressful and tragic things happen to us? Because, when we receive good things and positive times, our Lord has graciously poured out His blessings on us with no effort on our part. However, when we encounter bad things and negative times, our Lord graciously pours out His blessings and grace on us because we praise Him even in the storm.

Lord, teach us to be thankful all the time and for all things. Our thankfulness helps us remember how faithful and gracious You are to us. In Your great name we pray, Amen.

ALL STIRRED UP

Hebrews 10:24

"And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works." ESV

To consider something is to take time to focus on it and take time to really think about it. We are encouraged to consider our brothers and sisters in Christ and how we might get them motivated to be like Him.

Lord, forgive us for our lack of motivation and neglecting our responsibility to motivate others to do Your will. Help us to consider how to keep our faith kindled and to motivate others to do the same. In Your name we pray, Amen.

WHAT KIND OF SUFFERING MAKES US REJOICE

1 Peter 4:16

"Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name." ESV

Suffering is a human reality that no one escapes in this life. Most of the time we suffer because we've done something we shouldn't have done or we get caught in the crossfire of natural consequences. But how often has any of us suffered because we are Christians? If we suffer for that, we can rejoice and praise Him. He will honor us and bless us when we suffer for Him.

Lord, forgive us when we complain for suffering when it is our own doing or we are experiencing being a part of this world. When we suffer for being Your children, help us to rejoice and give You praise. In Your name we pray, Amen.

THE BLOOD AND THE EARS OF THE LORD NEVER FAIL

Isaiah 59:1

"Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save, or his ear dull, that it cannot hear." ESV

Some people believe that their lives are so far into sin that they can never be saved. There is no sin that the blood of Jesus Christ cannot cleanse. Some people believe the Lord does not listen to their prayers or does not care. Every prayer that is spoken from the heart to the Lord Jesus Christ is answered. His answer may not be what we had expected, but it will be answered. His blood cleanses, His ears hear and move Him to answer.

Lord, we give You praise for Your precious and powerful blood that covers all sin. We thank You for hearing all our prayers and for answering them in Your time and in Your way. In Your gracious name we pray, Amen.

BEING THE GREATEST IS NOT WHAT YOU THINK

Matthew 23:11

"The greatest among you shall be your servant." ESV

The definition of a servant is a person in the service of another. If we are freely serving others in the love of Christ, we are greatest in His kingdom.

Lord, we recognize You as the greatest Servant of all. Help us to follow You in service to our fellowmen and to know that in serving others, we are serving You. In Your name we pray, Amen.

GIVE THEM THE KEY

1 Corinthians 9:19

"For though I am free from all, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win more of them." ESV

If we have the key that opens the prison door to set us free, why would we not want to pass that key on to others. Then they will pass the key on to yet others. To take the time and energy to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ to others, is giving them the Key to eternal freedom.

Lord, help us to remember that someone took the time to share the gospel with us so that we would be set free from sin. Give us the desire to pass the Good News along to all who come across our paths. In Your Great name we pray, Amen.

FREE TO SERVE

Galatians 5:13

"For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another." ESV

Just the thought of being free is a wonderful thing. We were made free by the sacrifice of Jesus at the cross. We are free to say no to the things of this world that once held us captive. We are free to live so that we become more and more like Christ.

Lord, we praise You for setting us free to love and serve You and one another. Help us to use our freedom solely for Your kingdom. In Your name we pray, Amen.

TEACH THE CHILDREN

Judges 2:10

"And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers. And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work that he had done for Israel." ESV

When all of us living now have died, will the new generation know the Lord? Are we teaching our children, and teaching them to teach their children about the Lord Jesus Christ? If we fail to do so, we will answer to the Lord God Himself for a generation who does not know Him.

Lord, help us to live and teach our children everyday of Your great love and mercy. Help us to make this our priority so that coming generations will know the true God. We pray in Your name, Amen.

LISTEN IN THE DARK

Matthew 10:27

"What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops." ESV

When we feel we are in the dark and we don't sense God's presence, we have to keep silent because this is when He speaks to us what we are to share with the world. The darkness will end, don't question it.

Lord, help us to remember that You are every bit with us in the darkness as when we are in more joyful times. Help us to listen in the darkness so that we will speak out in the daytime. In Your great name we pray, Amen.

KEEP WORKING

1 Corinthians 3:9

"For we are God's fellow workers. You are God's field, God's building." ESV

As fellow workers with God, why do we question our circumstances? God is the head engineer. Our jobs are to follow Him, obey Him, love one another, and reach out to the lost. We do these things no matter what circumstance we find ourselves. He is right here with us. Keep working.

Lord, forgive our weak and faltering faith. Help us to keep working, knowing You will accomplish Your work through us. We pray in Your name, Amen.

PRIVATE INVESTIGATING

Psalm 51:10

"Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me." ESV

The Lord never asks us to fix those things in our hearts that are impure. He asks us to examine our hearts to see if there is impurity there. If there is, we are to let Him shine His light there so He can make it clean.

Lord, help us bring the impurities of our hearts to You so that You will shine Your light on them and make us clean. In Your name we pray, Amen.

NO MAP, NO DETAILS, JUST HIS VOICE

Hebrews 11:8

"By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going." ESV

Having faith, we have no reason to worry about our journey in this life. We will get to where we need to be because our Lord promised. The journey itself is rocky and unpredictable, but we have no need to concern ourselves with the details of our journey. We walk by faith, not knowing what is ahead, because He is faithful.

Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness to bring us to our eternal destination. Forgive us for worrying and questioning when our faith grows weak. We don't need to understand what You are doing and where You are leading us. We will keep going, in Your name we pray, Amen.

WHY NOT NOW LORD?

John 13:37

"Peter said to him, 'Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.'" ESV

Peter was eager to fulfill his purpose that Jesus had promised him. In his mind, he was ready now. But Jesus knew that Peter would have to go through many things before he could do what he was called to do. We are much like Peter. We tend to get ahead of God in our desire to serve Him, and we end up finding ourselves in quite a mess. Our Lord tells us to wait. He will bring about our readiness and the work we are to do. Meanwhile, we become living Bibles and accept the small tasks that are all around us.

Lord, we are very much like Peter, thinking we can do marvelous and wonderful things right now. Give us wisdom and grace as we go through preparation until You deem us ready to fulfill Your plan for our lives. In Your great name we pray, Amen.

OUR BODIES BELONG TO HIM

1 Corinthians 6:20 ". . . for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." ESV

Before Jesus Christ offered His own body on the cross so that He might purchase us as His own, He created our bodies. He took all the consequences of our self-centeredness and sin by enduring a humiliating and cruel death. He had no sin, He took on all of ours. He bought us with His blood. If we accept His ownership of our lives, we will honor Him with our bodies by living pure and holy. We cannot repay Him in any other way.

Lord, how we praise You for the sacrifice You made for us to purchase us from the bondage of sin. Help us to live our lives so that we bring honor to You and draw others to You. In Your name we pray, Amen.

ANGER IN ITS RIGHT PLACE

Psalm 86:15

But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, show to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness." ESV

If every person in the world responded to difficult people and circumstances like we do, what kind of world would we have? If we all responded like our Lord does, how would this world be? We are so blessed that He is compassionate and slow to get angry. Where would we be if He weren't?

Lord, thank You for being patient and gracious toward us, although we know we don't deserve it. Help us to be more like You when we interact with others in this world. Amen.

CREATOR, DESIGNER, SUSTAINER

Colossians 1:17

"And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together." ESV

The Son exists in eternity. He existed before any thing that was created existed. Even the angels were created. He, Himself is the Creator, who made all things for His own pleasure. He designed it all and holds it together by His imprint of love and sacrifice.

Lord, we praise You for Your magnificent creation. More so, we acknowledge that You supersede all things, and having made all things, hold it all in place. Help us to live worthy of Your great love. In Your name we pray, Amen.

WITHERED WORLD, ETERNAL WORD

Isaiah 40:8

"The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever." ESV

We, too, like the flowers will wither and fade away. All created things are temporary, but are useful in time and space. God is eternal. His Word is eternal. All that He spoke, and all that He promised will come to be. All the things of this world will be no more. But we will not weep, because perfection, completeness is waiting for us in eternity with Him.

Lord, help us to remember that our own agendas and possessions are but fleeting blooms that wilt and wither after a short time. We magnify You Lord, that You never change and Your Word is forever and ever. In Your great name we pray, Amen.

WATCH OUT FOR THE LIGHT

John 3:20

"For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed." ESV

Light penetrates through the darkness so that what is there can be seen. Worldly people who have no interest in the things of God still avoid the light. They know it will expose ungodly things they are doing and it will shame them. We all know some of these people. They stay away from people, media, teachings that speak about God and new life in Christ. We really need to examine our own selves to see just how close we are willing to get to the light.

Lord, we honor You for You are the Light of the world. Forgive us for those times we have stayed at a distance from Your Light because we know we have been disobedient. We pray for those who refuse to come to the Light, that Your Holy Spirit will convict them and they will repent and be saved. In Your wonderful name we pray, Amen.

WHO IS WISE IN THIS WORLD?

James 3:13

"Who is wise and understanding among you? By his good conduct let him show his works in the meekness of wisdom." ESV

There are many self proclaimed teachers who speak with great eloquence and convincing words. God's word says it takes more responsibility for a teacher called by Him. There must be not only evidence of wisdom and knowledge through speech, but wisdom that is evident in holy living every day. Wisdom, humility, and righteous living identifies the true teachers of God.

Lord, we thank You that You have called some of us to be teachers that can be used to bring others to a deeper faith in You. Help us Lord to discern those who are truly called by You. We pray in Your name, Amen.
