HEART HIDDEN

Psalm 119:11

"I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you." ESV

To hide something is to put it in a secret place where it can be protected. Hiding God's Word in our hearts makes His Word a part of us so every step we take is guarded by His Word. It is buried within us. Of course we share His Word with others, but we never let remove it from its hidden place in our hearts.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Word that lights the way for us to get through this life all the way to You and Your eternal kingdom. We praise You for enabling us to hide Your Word within our hearts so we can please You and be living witnesses to those who are ready to receive the Truth. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

POINTLESS QUIBBLING

 2 Timothy 2:23

"Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels." ESV

It is pretty easy to lose sight of the main message of God's Word. We tend to get caught up in little side roads that become more important than they should. We begin to argue and debate about these things and most of the time we really have insufficient knowledge to debate them anyway. It's much better to stay focused on the main message, the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Heavenly Father, please help us to keep focused on what really matters, the Gospel message of Jesus Christ our Lord. In His name we pray, Amen.

FOCUS ON WHERE YOU'RE GOING

 Colossians 3:2
"Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth." ESV

Our minds are bombarded with all kinds of information, daily concerns, and all kinds of other things that grab our attention. We get to feeling that our minds are so cluttered with all of life's stuff that we repeat often, "I have too much on my mind." God gets crowded out by all these things swirling in our heads. We have the choice to discipline our minds to think about God and eternal life. If we choose to do so, we will stay in the path He has chosen for us and we will see Him working in our lives.

Heavenly Father, we need Your help to keep our minds from allowing the clatter of this world from holding our attention captive. We desire to discipline our minds to think on You and Your Word. We ask for the grace to help us. In Jesus' name, Amen.

AND THE BATTLE GOES ON

  Galatians 5:16
"But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do." ESV

As Christians, we are constantly in a battle between what our own desires want and the Holy Spirit's desire that lives within us. Do we recognize the difference between the two? Do we consciously listen to the Holy Spirit and choose to follow Him? If we don't, our human desires will lead us to things that destroy us physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Heavenly Father, we bow humbly before you asking for strength, wisdom, and discernment to follow the leading of Your Holy Spirit. We know then, that we will win each battle and that we will not sin against You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

TEMPORARY SUFFERING, ETERNAL JOY

  Romans 8:18
"For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us." ESV

Suffering is something we all understand. Some much more than others. While we are in a time of suffering, we become focused on how bad it is, how nearly impossible it is to handle. Have we gotten so caught up in the suffering that our Lord told us we would experience in this world that we forget to look to Him for comfort? He has promised us that whatever suffering we experience on this earth will totally fade and be forgotten when get into eternity with Him. If we are suffering, let's look up and get snuggled up in His hands. The time is coming when all this suffering will be long forgotten, but worth it all.

Heavenly Father, sometimes we don't understand why we go through the suffering we do, but we know You have prepared an eternal place for us that knows no suffering. We thank You that our suffering is so temporary and that You are here to comfort us until we get there. In Your Precious name we pray, Amen.

LET THERE BE LIGHT

  Psalm 119:130
"The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple." ESV

When the sun slowly rises in the early morning, it's light begins to spread out and all things become more clearly seen. It is the same with the Word of God, which is light. As we read, study, and practice it, we begin to see things more and more clearly as we let the Word rise in our hearts.

Heavenly Father, how thankful we are that we have Your Word so that we are able to see and understand You and Your kingdom more clearly. Help us to take Your Words into our hearts to light the way we need to take to get to You. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

GOT POWER?

2 Peter 1:3 "His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence." ESV

Knowledge comes from God's Word, from personal time with Him, and from being with other believers. With this knowledge, He freely gives us His power so that we will be fully equipped to live above the destructive forces of this world.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for giving us Your power as we seek You while we are here in this cursed world. Increase our hunger for Your Word, for prayer, and for being with other believers. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

WANNA KNOW GOD? OBEY HIM!

John 14:21

"Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him." ESV

If we fill our hearts and minds with God's Word and do what it says, the love of God will flow freely and abundantly through us. When we obey Him, it shows that we love Him. That pleases Him so much that He will reveal Himself to us!

Heavenly Father, sometimes it is difficult to obey, but we ask that You show us grace and mercy to stand strong and obey Your Word. Knowing You will reveal Yourself to us if we obey is more than enough motivation. In Jesus' name, Amen.

REVENGE DOESN'T LIVE AT OUR HOUSE

  Proverbs 20:22
"Do not say, 'I will repay evil;' wait for the Lord, and he will deliver you." ESV

When we have been hurt, and terrible injustice has been done to us, our natural response is to get even. If we follow our natural inclination to get even, we only turn ourselves into the same kind of person that wronged us. Instead, God says to do nothing, but wait on Him. He will make sure we are vindicated. He will cause the one who harmed us to reap what was sown.

Heavenly Father, oh how we need Your grace when we have been hurt by others. Help us to rise above our human natures and leave revenge to You. We trust in You to take care of all these situations for us. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

DON'T TALK ABOUT IT, LIVE IT!

1 Corinthians 4:20
"For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk, but in power." ESV

We can talk about the things of God, quote scriptures, sing choruses, and state our beliefs, but there is no power in talking and discussing the things of God. The power of God is unleashed when we live God's Word and demonstrate His kingdom daily in our lives through the enabling of the Holy Spirit.

Heavenly Father, we ask for wisdom to keep from merely speaking words that have no power, but to live our lives in the power of the Holy Spirit. In Jesus' name, Amen.

IT'S HOT IN HERE!

  1Thessalonians 5:19

"Do not quench the Spirit." ESV

Fire is burning passion that affects everything it touches. The Holy Spirit is a powerful, consuming fire. If the Holy Spirit is living within us, we are affected, changed in nature, and have the same power to affect those around us. Others will be affected with the fire of the Holy Spirit and they will be forever changed. How could we ever allow this Holy Spirit fire from burning within us and keep Him from working through us?

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the gift of the Holy Spirit who ignites us with the fire of Your passion. Help us to keep the fire of the Holy Spirit burning in our lives, so that others will be changed keep the fire spreading to others. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.

GOT HAPPINESS?

  Psalm 119:1

"Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord." ESV

God's Word tells us how to be happy. If we have pure motives, as the basis for our actions, we will have happiness. If we live our lives within the boundaries of God's will, we will know true happiness. Being happy is the result of a pure heart and obedience.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You have revealed to us the way to find true happiness. Give us pure hearts and the will to be obedient so that we may know You and have true happiness. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

KEEP ON KEEPING ON

  Philippians 3:13,14

"Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus." ESV

We so often get our minds replaying times when we were wronged, rejected, and hurt. When we allow ourselves to dwell on these things, it keeps us from moving forward in our Christian walk. Looking forward will get us to where Christ wants us to be and where we will find perfect peace and fulfillment. We will never forget the bad things that happened to us, but we don't have to dwell on them until the hurts and resentments return. If we move on, going forward, God is there, walking with us and leading us to our destination.

Heavenly Father, we ask Your forgiveness for letting our minds and our memories keep us from growing as Christians. Help us to keep our eyes fixed ahead, on You and Your plan for our lives. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

WHY ALL THE TROUBLES HERE?

  Psalm 121:7,8
"The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forevermore." ESV

The Word of God says that He will never allow harm to come to us. Then why does Jesus tell us that we will have suffering and trials in this world? Why do we have all kinds of problems and heartaches? The answer is not about worldly things. God will always and forever protect our souls from harm by the evil one and never allow us to perish with the unrighteous. That is true no matter what happens to our physical bodies on this earth.

Heavenly Father, we praise you for making the way for our full assurance that You are guarding our souls from harm for eternity. We ask that you help us to live with faith in this world with it's trials and struggles. We know we will be kept safe for eternity. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

WHO TURNED OUT THE LIGHT?

2 Corinthians 4:4

"In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." ESV

Since Satan cannot keep the Light out of the world, He works overtime making sure the Light doesn't get into the hearts and minds of those who are unbelievers. Unbelievers allow the darkness to rule in their hearts because they are more comfortable with the life and they see the lie as more realistic and logical. Our commission as believers is to be light in this dark world and pray that the Holy Spirit will prepare the hearts and minds of those who are deceived by the lies of Satan, that they will believe and receive the Light of the Gospel.

Heavenly Father, we are aware of the work of Satan in this world. We know You are greater and the Truth of the Gospel is greater. Help us to be light in this dark world. Prepare the hearts and minds of those who are still prisoners of darkness, so they will see the truth and turn from the darkness to the Light. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

HUSH! INSIDE VOICE PLEASE

Proverbs 15:1

"A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." ESV

When we get into an argument with another person, it is natural for us to raise our voice and match the negativity of the other person. There is blaming, bringing up past, hurts, criticizing, and making demands. The natural outcome of this behavior is more anger and hurt. As Christians, we are free to stay unhooked from arguing by responding with gentleness and soft words. Soft words have a way of taming anger.

Heavenly Father, please help us to remember that we don't have to get caught up in arguments that stir up anger. In those times when arguments happen, give us the soft words to speak that will take the anger captive and calm it. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

OK FOR ME, NOT OK FOR THEM

1 Corinthians 10:23

"All things are lawful, but not all things are helpful. All things are lawful, but not all things build up." ESV

Accepting the Truth of God sets us free. What does this freedom mean? It means we are free to say "no" to sin. Even more, we can choose to say "no" to those things that are not necessarily sinful, but they do not feed our spirit or promote growth in less mature Christians that are watching us. All things may be available to us to do, not all things are always the right thing to do. We use love and discernment, considering our own walk with the Lord and the spiritual welfare of others.

Heavenly Father, we humbly confess that we sometimes carry out our own agendas that are not necessarily wrong, but we haven't used spiritual judgment to give us awareness of how our behaviors might affect others. Help us to be aware that just because something is all right for us to do, it might confuse or cause a less mature Christian to stumble. In Jesus' name, Amen.

WALK AND FIRM UP NOW

 Matthew 24:12,13

"And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. But the one who endures to the end will be saved." ESV

Jesus warned us that the world would become so evil that many would view evil as acceptable and normal. They will not be pierced in their hearts by evil and their love for God will lose it's fervor. We are to be alert to this subtle takeover of evil, because only those who are firm in their spiritual walk with Christ will be saved.

Heavenly Father, we know this world is getting more evil as time passes. We ask You to keep us firm and passionate in our walk with You. Help us to resist evil and to continue being living testimonies of You in this evil world. We pray in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.

THE ROUGH ROAD: WAITING

Psalm 27:14

"Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!" ESV

Waiting is a very hard thing when we are in need of something right now. It becomes nearly impossible when we have waited far beyond the time we expected we would need to wait. It is at this point we begin to lose heart, become weak and discouraged. However, this is the exact time when we can allow the Lord to strengthen us and give us courage. This act of faith and trust will be a testimony to an unbelieving world.

Heavenly Father, we confess that we become impatient and lose heart quickly. Help us to exercise our faith so that we will be strong and confident that the answers to our prayers are on the way. In Jesus' name, Amen.

SUPREME GLUE

Colossians 1:17

"And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together." ESV

Do we really grasp the awesome nature of our Lord Jesus Christ? He is eternal, existing from eternity to eternity, no beginning and no end. Do we really understand that Christ is the One who causes all things created to hold together, have shape and form, and have organization? That includes all things in the universe and all things in the spiritual world. That is why every knee will bow at this coming!

Heavenly Father, the greatness of Your Son, Jesus Christ is so vast it is impossible for our minds to comprehend it. Help us to show Him the reverence and obedience that belongs to Him. We thank You for sending Him to save us and the eternal life You have prepared for us. In Jesus' holy name we pray, Amen.

INSEPARABLE

Romans 8:38,39  "For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." ESV

The Gospel proclaims that God is love and that He gave is only Son to save us. There is nothing that can get in the way of God's love for us. We have the choice to reject God's Love and His plan of salvation that will cause us to spend eternity away from His presence. But His love is everlasting.

Heavenly Father, our minds cannot contain how unending Your love for us is. We pray for Your grace to live in this Love, to share this Love, and to honor this Love in everything we do. We pray for those who have not accepted this Love, that You will allow our path to cross with theirs, so we can share this Love and they will ask for it. In Jesus' name, Amen.

WHEN THE WORLD'S WISDOM GOES BUST

1 Corinthians 1:19 "For it is written, 'I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart.'" ESV

Earthly knowledge and wisdom have grown by leaps in bounds. We get so impressed by the things that are discovered and explained by today's men of respected expertise. As Christians, we understand that the knowledge and wisdom of this world cannot reconcile us to God nor lead us to God. The world's wisdom is temporary and it will disappear along with the rest of the world's wood, hay, and stubble when Christ comes for us.

Heavenly Father, we ask for Your true wisdom and knowledge so that the Life You give will fill our souls and bring us safely home to You. Give us awareness of those things that get us distracted and caught up in the wisdom of this world. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
