KNOWLEDGE 101

Proverbs 1:7 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction." ESV

Of all the knowledge mankind can obtain, it is worthless unless it is connected at the foundation to the fear of the Lord. The fear of the Lord is the most important knowledge. Recognizing God is all in all will result in total trust that God will give us the knowledge that gets us to Him. To fear the Lord is not to be afraid of Him. It is an all encompassing reverence and humble acceptance that He is Knowledge.

Heavenly Father, help us to search ourselves to see if we have the reverence and acceptance that leads us to the wisdom and knowledge that takes us to eternal life with You. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

A POWER SOURCE THAT CAN'T BE BEAT

Revelation 3:7 "And the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: 'The words of the holy one, the true one, who has the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one opens.'" ESV

If we really believe that God is all powerful, we will not worry about things like we do. When God sets something in place, there is nothing that can change it, except God Himself. If God chooses to keep something from happening, there is nothing that can make it happen, except God Himself. God is omnipotent. He is all powerful and there is no power greater than Him. Trust Him! We will never be disappointed.

Heavenly Father, how thankful we are that You are all powerful. Your grace is abundant so that we can put our whole trust in You. You know what is best for us and we thank You that You open and shut the doors according to Your will. Because of that, You will be glorified and we will have what is best for us. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

INFERTILITY OF THE CHRISTIAN LIFE

James 1:22 "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves." ESV

Listening to the Word of God brings faith. But that is only the beginning. If we listen only and stop there, we have faith with no fruit. The deception is like the fig tree that had no fruit. Jesus cursed that tree, it was useless. So it is with our faith. True faith will produce fruit. A tree bearing fruit is an active process that can be seen and others benefit and are fed from it.

Heavenly Father, by Your grace and mercy, convict our hearts of being hearers of Your Word only. Put an unquenchable desire in us to grow in faith and produce fruit so that others can feed on Your awesomeness and gift of salvation. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

PERFECT NAVIGATION SYSTEM

Isaiah 30:21 "And your ears shall hear a word behind you saying, 'This is the way, walk in it,' when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left." ESV

If we are trusting the Lord in spite of trials and bitter circumstances, He will let us recognize His voice. If may be through His Word, or through those who are wise in His Word. If might be through that still small voice within or through our circumstances. No matter where we are, we will be able to hear God's voice directing our steps.

Heavenly Father, give us the grace we need to trust and wait for Your direction. Help us to hear Your voice whenever and however You speak. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

WANT TO SEE BETTER?

2 Corinthians 3:16

"But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed." ESV

Keeping our eyes on the Lord and Him alone, will result in such clarity in understanding of the truth and revelation of God. We will be able to see His true nature and the meaning of His Word. If we take our eyes off Him, the veil will remain over our eyes and hide all these wonderful things from us.

Heavenly Father, we pray that You will help us to stay focused on You. We desire to see clearly and know You and Your Word. In Jesus' name, Amen.

POWER OF WORDS

Proverbs 12:18

"There is one whose rash words are like sword thrusts, but the tongue of the wise brings healing." ESV

What kind of words to we speak that others hear? Do we thoughtlessly talk negatively about others, criticizing, and even crushing their integrity? This kind of talk is no better than driving a knife through someone's heart. Being wise with our words will produce encouragement, protection, and healing to others. Our God honors this kind of talk.

Heavenly Father, we ask for wisdom when we speak so that we will build up and encourage and not cause pain and tarnish the character of others. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.

SEPARATED IN A DIFFERENT WAY

2 Corinthians 6:17

"Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you." ESV

The Lord has commanded us to be a separate people. He did not tell us to segregate ourselves into isolated little communities where we could stay away from the world. He wants us to be separated by our beliefs and lifestyles. We can't live in this world and be insulated from its' influence. We can be in this world and be an influence. If we separate ourselves from the world's beliefs and lifestyles, God will protect us from its' destructive influence on our lives.

Heavenly Father, how thankful we are that You are faithful to protect us as we separate ourselves from the world. Please help us to stay separate in our thoughts, beliefs, and actions so that You will be glorified. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

WHICH SORROW IS THAT?

2 Corinthians 7:10

"For Godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death." ESV

There is a huge difference between Godly sorrow and worldly sorrow. Godly sorrow comes from realizing we have sinned against our Lord and that this sin must be stopped now so that we can be right with God. Worldly sorrow results from being found out, caught in our sin, and being resentful we will pay the consequences.

Heavenly Father, we stand humbly before You and ask for spiritual sensitivity to the sins we commit against You and others. We ask that our consciences produce Godly sorrow so that our sins will be washed clean by the blood of Jesus Christ. In His name we pray, Amen.

NO BUDGING OR FUDGING

James 1:4

"And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." ESV

Trials and stressful things in this world can strengthen our faith. It is the measure of our faith that determines how much patience we have and how much we can persevere. If we can successfully stand strong in faith through trials and tribulations in this world, we will be mature and complete in Christ.

Heavenly Father, how thankful we are for the measure of faith You have given us. We ask You to help us exercise this faith so that we can persevere through the trials and tribulations we face in this world. We desire to be made whole. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

WHAT A WORK OUT!

Philippians 2:12 "Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." ESV

How do we "work out" our own salvation? It is much like cleaning house, getting rid of all the dirt. Or it is like heating metal to the point that all the impurity is gone. Working out our salvation is allowing ourselves to experience difficult, uncomfortable, and sometimes frightening things to drive out worldliness in ourselves. Then our God will work in holiness and purity that is characteristic of His children.

Heavenly Father, we pray that You would help us stay at Your side as we work out the impurity in our lives. We desire to be pure and holy, to be Yours. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

LOVE AND HATE

Romans 12:9

"Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good." ESV

Love is not merely an emotion, it is action. What is in our hearts will show in our actions. Do our actions show genuine love? Abhor is a very strong word. It means hate. Like love, it is not merely an emotion. It is an intense action that comes out of our heart. Do we genuinely hate evil to the point that it shows in our actions? If so, we will be actively destroying evil that comes near us and will be actively clinging to the Lord.

Heavenly Father, we humbly ask that you help us love with sincere hearts and hate evil so that we defeat it by the power of the Holy Spirit. Give us a burning desire to cling to You and all that You have declared good. In Jesus' name, Amen.

NO MUTT MARRIAGES

Hebrews 13:4

"Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous." ESV

God has such passion for marriage that He patterned the sacred union of a man and woman after Jesus Christ, the bridegroom, and His bride, the Church. Do we regard marriage with this same honor and respect? Just like our relationship to the Lord, our marriage is as pure as our thoughts, our feelings, and our actions.

Heavenly Father, we give You thanks for the holy and sacred gift of marriage. We stand in need of Your grace to help us keep our marital commitment pure and holy. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

ROYAL PASS

Hebrews 4:16

"Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we might receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." ESV

Jesus Christ was God who became a human, lived among us, and faced the same trials and temptations we face. Unlike us, He lived His life here without sinning. He knew why He came. Because He resisted the human nature, we can come right to the throne of the Father with confidence, not fear. We can receive mercy and grace whenever we ask for it.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your Son, who knows what it's like to live in this world and did it without sin. We are in awe of the grace and mercy You pour out so that we can come directly to Your throne. Help us to always remember it is because of what Jesus Christ did for us that allows us to come. In His name we pray, Amen.

BREATH OF GOD

2 Timothy 3:16

"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, and for correction, and for training in righteousness." ESV

The words of Scripture came from the very breathe of God. They are the Creator of the universe speaking to us. From His words we learn what we are to believe, to know the Truth, to correct the things in our lives that hinder our walk with Him, and to teach others about Him. The Word of God is our life manual.

Heavenly Father, we praise You and thank You for giving us Your Word, so that we can have direction for our lives and be equipped to teach others to trust in Your Word. In Jesus' name, Amen.

POWER PRAYING

James 5:16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working." ESV

We often take the precious gift of prayer for granted. We many times use prayer as a needs list for God to complete. Prayer is a powerful communion with Creator of the universe that allows us to bask in His presence, hear Him, and worship Him. It is the way to healing and forgiveness. If we are living right through the eyes of God, our prayers are immeasurably powerful.

Heavenly Father, You have shown us how to pray. Forgive us for neglecting this very source of our strength and closeness with You. Put within us the desire to commune with You at every level of our lives. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.

John 5:24

"Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life." ESV

Jesus spoke the words that the Father gave Him to speak. If we believe the words Jesus spoke, then we believe the Father. If we truly believe, we will be obeying and we have eternal life with Him.

Heavenly Father, how we thank You for sending Your Son to speak Your words of life to us. Give us ears to hear and hearts to obey them. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

WHAT ARE YOU THINKING?

Romans 12:2   "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect." ESV

We all start this life by being like the world. When we hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and accept Him as our own Savior and Lord, we begin to change and become more like Him. The strong influences of this world make it terribly difficult to keep from going back to it. We can keep our growing conformity to Christ by changing our old ways of thinking. It is in our minds that we choose to reject the worldly life and consistently focus on our God. Then, we will know His will and see the things of God that the world cannot see.

Heavenly Father, help us to get rid of our old thinking that hinders our becoming like Christ. Give us the power to stay focused on Godly things and to turn on backs on the things of this world. In Jesus' name, Amen.

NO MYTHOLOGY HERE

2 Peter 1:16

"For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made know to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty." ESV

The apostles were the ones who wrote the Gospels and letters of the New Testament. They were not writing down their personal opinions, hearsay, or words from other writings. They were writing what they saw with their own eyes, heard with their own ears, and experienced by being with Jesus. They lived with Him, they talked with Him, they walked with Him, they sat at His feet listening to the words He spoke. They saw Him ascend up into heaven. Therefore, we can take the words we read in The Holy Bible that He spoke as The Truth, first hand accounts of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Heavenly Father, we thank You and praise You that You have given us Your words of truth that will last forever and that will lead us to You. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

PLANNED FROM THE BEGINNING

Romans 8:29 "For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers." ESV

God's plan from the beginning was to have a group of people who would be called His Church. He designed this plan so that His Church would become more and more like Christ, His firstborn. Together, we are all one, unified, His Church. Soon, His Church will be His Bride and live in eternity with Him. What a comfort this is!

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You designed a plan that will make us like Christ and that will allow us to live with You forever. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

WHO'S THE JUDGE?

James 4:12

"There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor? ESV

We all find ourselves eager and ready to give our personal opinions about others. However, most often we are making a judgment about someone rather than giving an opinion. God alone is the Judge. Even if we casually make a judgment about someone, we are making ourselves out to be equal to God. That's the very mistake Satan made!

Heavenly Father, we acknowledge You as the only Lawgiver and Judge. We ask for pure hearts and discerning spirits so we do not sin by judging others. In Jesus' name, Amen.

HOW IS YOUR PATH?

Proverbs 10:9

"Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but he who makes his ways crooked will be found out." ESV

A clean conscience brings with it total peace and freedom because there is nothing to hide. It is doing what's right when no one is watching. What peace to lay one's head on the pillow at night with clean conscience and heart. For those who lack integrity, there is always a trail to cover up, something to hide. Even the law of nature shows that something warped, bent, or cracked will either correct itself or break down completely. How much freedom is there in that?

Heavenly Father, we pray for integrity, the desire, courage, and strength to live on the path of righteousness, and to know true freedom. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

KEEP A LOW PROFILE

James 4:10

"Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you." ESV

Being humble is not an action, it is a state of being. It is always being aware of our place, our position compared to the life that Christ lived on the earth. Comparing ourselves with others is getting our eyes off the Lord and that always leads to pride. Our responsibility is to keep our eyes on Jesus. He will shine His light on us for others to see if and when He chooses to do so.

Heavenly Father, we are in need of Your help in keeping ourselves humble. We pray for grace to help us keep our eyes on You so that we don't fall into pride. In Jesus' name, Amen.
