SUPER POWER

1 Samuel 2:9

"He will guard the feet of his faithful ones; but the wicked shall be cut off in the darkness, for not by might shall a man prevail." ESV

If we are true children of God, we can have confidence that He will guide us along every step of the way and will keep us from falling. Those who do not belong to Him, will find themselves in the end to be helpless, confused, and lost. Neither evil nor the efforts of man can overpower the omnipotent God Almighty.

Heavenly father, we thank You for Your eternal protection and guidance. We humbly worship You and acknowledge that there is no power greater than You. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, Amen.

TIME TO CLEAN THE HOUSE

1 Thessalonians 5:23

"Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." ESV

Because we are mere humans, only God can do for us that which we cannot do for ourselves. By way of His grace, He will separate us out from the world and make us holy. He will give us a clean conscience. He will give us a body that is His temple worthy of housing His Holy Spirit. He will give us a hunger to seek Him and obey Him. Then, when He comes back for His Church, we will be ready, without spot or wrinkle.

Heavenly Father, we ask for Your grace to set us apart and make us holy through and through so we will be found ready when you come for us. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

LOVE IS MORE THAN AN EMOTION

John 21:15

"When they had finished breakfast, Jesus said to Simon Peter, 'Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?' He said to him, 'Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.' He said to him, 'Feed my lambs.'" ESV

How much do we really love our Lord? Do we love Him to the point that we will obey Him in all things? He commands us to feed His lambs. It takes our commitment, time, and patience, to give to believers who are newborn, struggling, or erring. That leaves us with no alternative but to be in constant communion with the Lord so that we will have what we need to feed His lambs. Do we really love Him?

Heavenly Father, we pray to be receptive to Your love so that we will be able to give it out to feed Your lambs. In Jesus' name, Amen.

DON'T FORGET WHO THE REAL OWNER IS

Deuteronomy 6:11,12

"...and when you eat and are full, then take care lest you forget the Lord, who brought out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery." ESV

We can become so comfortable in our earthly possessions and comforts that we forget about the fact that it all belongs to God. It is by His grace and mercy that we are able to experience it in our lives. Perhaps we need to keep our attitude in the right place when it comes to our possessions and prosperity. We don't want them to become so important that they blind us to whom it all belongs and who we really are in His eyes.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the many blessings you have given us. We pray that You help us to keep from allowing these blessing to become more important than our relationship with You. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

PEACE IS NOT AN ABSENCE, BUT A PRESENCE

2 Thessalonians 3:16

"Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times in every way. The Lord be with you all." ESV

Peace is not an absence of conflict and unrest. Peace is the presence of harmony and unity when each of us aligns himself with Christ and we are all in one accord.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the precious gift of Your peace. Help us to get into alignment with You and Your Word. Give us unity with our brothers and sisters in Christ. Keep us aware that Your peace is what we need to live in this world. In Jesus' name, Amen.

WHAT'S IN A NAME?

Malachi 1:11

"For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name will be great among the nations, and in every place incense will be offered to my name, and a pure offering. For my name will be great among the nations, says the Lord of hosts." ESV

There is no individual, city, state, region, country, or earthly kingdom that can claim the greatness of a name that surpasses that of the Lord God Almighty. His name is due all honor and praise from every corner of the universe and all creation. Everywhere, His name will be celebrated and revered. He is the great I AM.

Heavenly Father, help us to gain more understanding and to always show holy reverence to the greatness of Your name. In Christ's name we pray, Amen.

NO BRAINS, NO MUSCLE, NO POWER NEEDED

Zechariah 4:6

"Then he said to me, 'This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts." ESV

The Lord's Church will be preserved and prepared for eternity with Christ. This will not and cannot be done by any strength of a person, group, or organization. There are some who believe they are powerful enough to accomplish this marvelous work. The victory of the Church will be accomplished only by the Spirit of the living God.

Heavenly Father, we ask for the fullness of Your Spirit in our lives so that we may be a part of Your great plan for the Church. We acknowledge there is no other way the Church will be made ready except by Your Holy Spirit. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

GENUINE OR IMPOSTER?

2 Timothy 2:19

"But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: 'The Lord knows those who are his,' and, 'Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.'" ESV

God is the builder of the Church. Jesus Christ is the Cornerstone, secured forever by the seal of God's hand. A seal signifies ownership and removes any doubt about the Truth. Many people proclaim they are Christians, but they aren't. God knows those who are genuinely His. They have turned from their own selfish ways. God's Church, made up of His people, is pure and holy, founded on Jesus Christ, the Cornerstone.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You have provided the way for us to be Your own. Help us to use our faith and to live holy before You and before others, so that Your Church brings You glory and honor. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

MONEY IS MORE POWERFUL THAN YOU THINK

1 Timothy 6:10
"For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs." ESV

Money is not evil. Having money is not evil. It's the love of money that is evil. The love of money draws people, Christians and non-Christians, into a deceitful place where it seems happiness and power abound. Falling into this trap of loving money will cause great sorrow for many who realize they have rejected eternal life and happiness to bask in earthly things that will be here today and gone tomorrow.

Heavenly Father, we humbly ask that You will guard our hearts and minds against the love of money and the earthly things it buys us. Fill our hearts with a burning desire to love You and Your Word. We pray in the name of Jesus, Amen.

HOLEY BUCKETS

Haggai 1:5,6

"Now, therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: Consider your ways. You have sown much, and harvested little. You eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill. You clothe yourselves, but no one is warm. And he who earns wages does so to put them into a bag with holes." ESV

The Lord gives us so many opportunities to be aware of our intentions and to examine ourselves. If we don't have a true, humble commitment to the Lord, the things we do for Him will be like putting water into a bucket full of holes. If we pat ourselves on the back when we do something good, that pat on the back is our reward. If we are dedicated to the Lord, what we do for Him is just second nature.

Heavenly Father, help us each day to examine our intentions, to be totally committed to You. Keep our hearts pure and humble in Your sight. In Jesus' name, Amen.

FINGER POINTING PROHIBITED

Titus 3:3

"For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another." ESV

Rather than looking at the faults of others, it is in our best interest to remember where we were when the Lord rescued us. We thought we knew everything, but we were totally ignorant. We knew that what we were doing was not right, but we wanted to satisfy our own desires. It made us angry when someone pointed out that we needed to change. If we remember all that, we will look on those who are still there and pray for them, not judge them.

Heavenly Father, bring to our minds that we were in a terribly depraved state before You rescued us. Fill us with Your love and the urgency to pray for those who are still imprisoned there so that we won't judge them. In Jesus' name, Amen.

JOY OVER WHAT?

Zephaniah 3:17

"The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing." ESV

Jesus Christ did not become a man, walk and live among us, become hated and murdered so that He could win a prize. He offered Himself to reconcile fallen man back to God. The Lord's love for us is so great that He involves Himself with us and will never leave us. Christ takes such joy and delight in us, His Church, that He quietly basks in this love, singing with joy over those who love Him too. This is His reward.

Heavenly Father, help us to remember that we are Christ's joy and reward. Give us hearts to seek Him and continue to be a joy to Him. We pray in His precious name, Amen.

THE PLACE EVERYONE WANT TO BE

Nahum 1:7

"The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; he knows those who take refuge in him." ESV

The Lord knows who His children are; those who seek Him earnestly and are committed to Him. For those, He is the all powerful protector, the ever present sanctuary of peace and safety; the One who knows all and has walked before us to make the way through any trial or tribulation.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for being the loving and merciful God You are, who protects us and allows us to share in Your victory against those who would try to harm us. We pray in Jesus' name, Amen.

GET A MOVE ON

Philemon 1:6

"And I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ." ESV

When we talk about our faith, God uses us to inspire others. But when we put our faith into action, others can see God moving in response to our active faith. As a result, everyone who sees this active faith is a witness to the great and marvelous things the Lord God is eager and waiting to do for those who dare to put feet to their faith.

Heavenly Father, we earnestly seek to put our faith into action so that we can testify to Your almighty power and grace. And, we desire to see Your glorious blessings evident to others, that they be drawn to You by the witness of the Holy Spirit and that they likewise take on this active faith.

WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?

Micah 7:7

"But as for me, I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me." ESV

Jesus Christ knows everything that's in us and how our human nature is. We understand that putting our trust in any human or group of humans instead of our God, will lead to certain disappointment. So, our only hope is to put our trust in the Lord God as we watch and wait for Him to move on our behalf in every aspect of our lives. He will hear us and always be with us. Trusting only in Him, we will never be disappointed.

Heavenly Father, help us to be aware of where we are putting our trust. Help us keep all of our trust in You alone and none in people or things. We pray this in Jesus' name, Amen.

GIVE PEACE A CHANCE

Hebrews 12:14

"Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord." ESV

We are commanded to fight against sin and evil. We are not to fight against each other or anyone who opposes us. We are to exert our greatest effort to keep a peaceful attitude and gentle behavior toward everyone. This is not always an easy thing to do. But, if we keep ourselves clothed with holiness, which means being detached from worldliness and attached to Godliness, we will have access to the same attitude God has.

Heavenly Father, help us to walk in holiness as Jesus did. Give us the Spirit of Peace so that we will be at peace You and all those we encounter. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?

Obadiah 1:3,4

"The pride of your heart has deceived you, you who live in the clefts of the rock, in your lofty dwelling, who say in your heart, 'who will bring me down to the ground?' Though you soar aloft like the eagle, though your nest is set among the stars, from there I will bring you down, declares the Lord." ESV

Some people have a very inflated view of themselves. In fact, some are so in love with themselves they believe they are seen by all others as wonderful and magnificent. They are so deceived by their pride that they believe they are above the laws of God and man. God will allow them to continue in their deception for a time, but will bring them to reality at some point. It would be wise for us to examine ourselves, be real about who we are, and keep ourselves from falling into this kind of evil pride. Yes, it can happen to any of us. We can fall from any level.

Heavenly Father, we ask that you would help us to examine ourselves honestly to keep a true perspective on who we really are, to see ourselves as You see us. Then we know You will be glorified through us. We pray this in Jesus' name, Amen.

FAR BETTER THAN THE OWL

James 1:5

"If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him." ESV

We all want to be wise don't we? Wisdom is a spiritual understanding of the mind of God. He will lavishly give us wisdom if we ask Him with a sincere heart. With His wisdom, we will more fully understand the situations we encounter and the events going on in this world. More importantly, we will know more of Him. To the owls of this world, what do you think about that?

Heavenly Father, we come to You will humble and sincere hearts asking for Your gift of wisdom. We desire to understand and know You in a deeper way. In Jesus' name, Amen.

THE LION DOESN'T SLEEP TONIGHT!

Amos 3:8

"The lion has roared; who will not fear? The Lord God has spoken; who can but prophesy?" ESV

If we were leisurely walking down a country road and a lion suddenly appeared from the bushes with a loud roar, wouldn't we automatically respond with fear and a strong motivation to move? When God, the Almighty One, who created the lion, speaks to us, how strong of a reaction, how motivated are we to move in obedience? Our response to the Word of God is an indicator of our spiritual condition.

Heavenly Father, we ask You to restore to us discerning, committed hearts that are ready to hear and respond to Your Word. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.

HE'S STILL DOING IT

Habakkuk 3:2

"O Lord, I have heard the report of you, and your work, O Lord, do I fear. In the midst of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy." ESV

When we read and learn of the powerful miracles God did in the Bible days, we are amazed and inspired. We wonder why we do not see the same kinds of miracles in our time. Our God never changes. He continues to do incredible miracles every day, but we do not notice because we are distracted by the things of this world; our spiritual eyes have been dulled because we look at what we see with our natural eyes and attach worldly meaning to them.

Heavenly Father, how we praise You and give You glory and honor for the mighty miracles You have done for Your people. Forgive us for allowing our spiritual senses to become dulled by this world, so that we do not see the incredible miracles You do every day all around us. Open our spiritual eyes and our hearts, help us to discern the works of Your hands and not be influenced by the things of this world. We pray in the name of Jesus our Lord, Amen.

LOVE IS NOT JUST A WORD

John 14:15

"If you love me, you will keep my commandments." ESV

How can we show God that we truly love Him? Can we just sing the worship songs, quote the love chapter in the Bible, or merely tell God that we love Him? Jesus tells us He will know we love Him if we obey His commandments. What are His commandments? They are to love God will all our being and to love each other. This love is not just words or warm fuzzy feelings, but it is acts of giving and sacrifice.

Heavenly Father, fill our hearts to overflowing with love for you and one another, so that all will see what we are doing and they will praise You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

NO GETTING EVEN?

Ezekiel 18:23

"Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord God, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live?" ESV

If we are honest, there are times we feel a sense of satisfaction when those who have wronged us have to pay for what they did. But, God's heart is different. Although unrepentant people will be punished, He is truly satisfied when they turn from their selfish ways and humbly walk with Him.

Heavenly Father, we ask You to mold our hearts to be like Yours, so that we will rejoice when our enemies turn to You with repentance, and grief when they don't. In Jesus name, Amen.

WAITING GETS US FARTHER ALONG

Lamentations 3:25,26

"The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him." ESV

We all have times when severe struggles face us. We often wonder where God is, after all, we prayed for His help. If we get our minds off the problem and begin seeking God for who He is, we will find ourselves in the middle of the most satisfying spiritual experience that strengthen us as we wait. God showers His blessings on those who wait with peaceful trust that He will work out our problems.

Heavenly Father, we stand in need of Your grace and mercy to help us wait and trust in You. Fill us with the fruit of peace and waiting so that we will be more spiritually mature. In Jesus' name, Amen.
