TROUBLES ARE NOT UNUSUAL

We fall into the pattern of asking why trouble is our lives is happening. It's
like trials and tribulations should not come to us, only to others far away
that we do not know. The truth is, we are confined to this cursed world and
all that it deals out. If our Lord encountered horrible injustices, rejection,
abuse, and even death by murder, why should we expect a trouble free life?

Read 1 Peter 4:12

"Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as
though something strange were happening to you." (NIV)

"Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you,
as though some strange thing happened unto you." (KJV)

HOW IS YOUR CHRISTIAN TESTIMONY?

Rather than condemn and criticize others, we are instructed to act in love and patience to those who are struggling and going astray. We show this love and patience by warning, encouraging, and helping.

Read 1 Thessalonians 5:14

"And we urge you, brothers, warn those who are idle, encourage
the timid, help the weak, be patient with everyone." (NIV)

"Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the
feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men." (KJV)

DAY OF REST

To keep the Lord's day holy, we are putting aside our own agendas and business to rest, refresh, and worship God who made us and loves us. This day of the week is not for business as usual in our work lives nor in our personal lives. How do you spend the Sabbath day?

Read Exodus 20:8

LIFE'S UPS AND DOWNS

During our stay on earth there will be times when things in our lives will call for grieving and weeping. There will likewise be times when life will bring us joy and laughter. These times come to all of us.

Read Ecclesiastes 3:4

dance." (NIV)

OUR PROVIDER

The Lord is faithful to abundantly provide our needs openly before
all to see. This is a testimony of His love and grace to unbelievers.
Our enemies cannot stop God's provision for His children nor can
they deny it. It is proof of God's favor toward those who belong to
him.

Read Psalm 23:5

"You prepare a table before me In the presence of my enemies. You
anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows." (NIV)

ITCHING EARS

The Way to eternal life is the straight and narrow path. Very few humble
themselves and commit to staying on it's course. People who call them-
selves Christians but do not want to travel that difficult path seek out
different routes that are easier, more appealing, not as difficult. The only
problem is, there is no alternate route.

Read 2 Timothy 4:3

"For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine.
Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great
number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear." (NIV)

"For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but
after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having
itching ears." (KJV)

SEEING THE WHOLE PICTURE

It is satisfying for us to believe we are spiritually enlightened. But, the truth is, we have only a poorly reflected knowledge of God and His Truth. The day will soon arrive when our spiritual eyes will look on Him and know Him fully. Then we will not only be satisfied, but also complete.

Read 1 Corinthians 13:12

"Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known."
(NIV)

"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known." (KJV)

IF YOU SEE HIM, YOU SEE THE FATHER

In early times, God spoke to His people through the prophets, men chosen and anointed to speak His truth. Jesus Christ was far superior to the prophets because He is the perfect representative of God the Father. Our God sent His Son to represent Himself so that we might know Him and become like Him. Jesus Christ successfully completed this mission for the Father to reconcile us and He sits with the Father interceding for us.

Read Hebrews 1:3

"The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven." (NIV)

"Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high." (KJV)

VICTORY WITH GOD

We can be totally confident that our God will bring us to full
relationship with Himself and eternal life where the enemy can
never reach us again.

our enemies." (NIV)

down our enemies." (KJV)

HELP MY UNBELIEF

It is quite an easy thing to fully trust the Lord for the small things and for
others who need a touch from Him. The problem comes when we see no
way a thing can be accomplished and it appears there is nothing that can
be done. That's when we begin to fret and doubt. Never forget that we can be completely reliant on Him to hear us and answer us according to His will and our best interest.

Read Mark 9:23,24

"'If you can?' said Jesus. 'Everything is possible for him who believes.'
Immediately the boy's father exclaimed, 'I do believe; help me overcome
my unbelief.'" (NIV)

"Jesus said unto him, 'If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him
that believeth.'
And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, 'Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.'" (KJV)

DECEIVED

It would be difficult to believe that Christians would intentionally
follow after demonic influences. The problem is, the demonic
influences of these last days are so subtle that they appear to
be the truth. This places Christians who are not alert, watching,
and fully equipped with the armor of God in grave danger of
being deceived.

Read 1 Timothy 4:1

"The Spirit clearly says that in later times some will abandon the
faith and follow deceiving spirits and things taught by demons."
(NIV)

"Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some
shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and
doctrines of devils;" (KJV)

LOVE VS HATRED

Hatred sets loose all kinds of negative, destructive emotions,
intentions, and behaviors. Love sets free forgiveness,
understanding, compassion, and those Godly things that
restore and unify.

Read Proverbs 10:12

HUNGRY FOR THE WORD

How do you know when a newborn baby is in need of being fed? The
baby is putting all of its' energy and strength in crying, thrashing its'
little arms and legs, and audibly exercising its' little lungs. Without
being fed, the little baby will never grow and mature into a healthy
adult. It is the same for us as Christians. If we want to become healthy
mature Christians, we will put all our energies and strength to take in
the spiritual milk of God's Word.

Read 1 Peter 2:2,3

"Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may
grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is
good." (NIV)

"As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may
grow thereby: If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious."

DON'T BE HARD HEARTED

Human nature does not change over time. The children of Israel saw the mighty works of God, but still continually grumbled, complained, and strayed from the commands of God. If we do not let our hearts
get hard like they did, we will reap the wonderful promises of God and enter His rest.

Read Hebrews 3:7,8

"So, as the Holy Spirit says: 'Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion, during the time of testing in the desert.'" (NIV)

"Wherefore as the Holy Ghost saith, 'Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness'" (KJV)

UNEQUALLY YOKED

To be harnessed together with someone whose beliefs and life practices are in opposition to your own Christian beliefs and spiritual practices is sure disaster. The best that can be expected from this kind of committed relationship is antagonism, dissension, confusion, compromise, and and continual diversions
from the Truth. God's Word tells us not to enter in to a committed partnership with an unbeliever.

Read 2 Corinthians 6:14

"Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? (NIV)

"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion hath light with darkness?" (KJV)

LOVE, UNITY, AND PEACE

So many things in this life are unfair and it is a challenge to interact
with difficult people. If we are walking in the Spirit of the Lord, we
will be able to put our natural feelings of superiority, resentment,
and impatience aside. We will allow His Spirit to work through us
and make us peacemakers.

Read Ephesians 4:2

"Be completely humble and gentle; be patient bearing with one
another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit
through the bond of peace." (NIV)

"With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing
one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit

RIGHTEOUS PERSEVERENCE

Just because a person is righteous before God does not mean there will never be times of failure and defeat. The difference between the righteous children of God and the ungodly is the faith of the righteous will cause them to get up, repent, and keep running the race. Those who do not know that faith will crumble under the strain of defeat.

Read Proverbs 24:16

". . . .for though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again, but the wicked are brought down by calamity." (NIV)

OUR SHELTER

Just as a child that is frightened runs to his mother for safety and
assurance, we, as God's children, run to Him for shelter. Just as
the child knows his mother and can rely on her to protect him, we
can know our Lord and fully trust that He will always take care of us.

Read Psalm 9:9,10

"The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.
Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never
forsaken those who seek you." (NIV)

"The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee." (KJV)

LOOK UP

Because we live in the now and there are many things that grab our attention, it is easy to lose sight of the things that will matter for all eternity. If we keep our minds on eternal things, the distractions of this temporary world will not only pale in comparison, but will take their rightful place in God's eternal plan. This will give us peace and tolerance as we walk through this life.

God's love and forgiveness is what brought us back into right relationship with Him. What excuse do we have for refusing to show compassion and forgiveness to those who have wronged us? Just pass it on.

Read Colossians 3:13

"Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." (NIV)

FOOD AND WORK

Food is a life sustaining necessity. The problem is, food does not magically appear in our hands so we can eat. Someone has to hunt the food, grow the food, harvest the food, and prepare the food. We are commanded to be a part of the process that makes food available by exerting effort. Work is
therefore necessary to sustain life. This is even more critical for the spiritual life.

Read 2 Thessalonians 3:10

"For even when we were with you, we gave you this rule: 'If a man will not work, he shall not eat.'" (NIV)

GOD'S PLAN, GOD'S TIME

Many times we wonder why we are in certain situations, why are we here? How can anything good come from this? Surely, God has forgotten us or has not listened to our prayers. How can God really love us and put us in difficult or perplexing circumstances? Brothers and sisters, God has a plan. His plan will come to pass and He orchestrates it through us and through circumstances. Though we do not see the purpose now, it will be made very clear in His time.

Read Esther 4:14

"For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?" (NIV)

"For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there
enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but
thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" (KJV)

DANGER IN SEEKING RICHES

Those who seek only after material things are most vulnerable to giving in to temptations to gain more. They become trapped in their search for riches, making unwise decisions that eventually destroy their souls. Loving to be rich is the source from which many evil things come.

Read 1 Timothy 6:9,10

"People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." (NIV)

"But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows." (KJV)

THE LORD'S JOY

The Lord loves us as the Father loves Him. We are to stay abiding in His love. To stay abiding in His love, we will obey what He tells us to do just as He obeyed the Father. If we obey Him, we will be complete and filled with His joy. His joy is what allows us to be able to stand firm in this life.

Read John 15: 9-11 and Nehemiah 8:10b

"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete." (NIV)

"...............Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength." (NIV)

"
As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full." (KJV)

WHERE IS YOUR HEART

It is easy for our spiritual gifts from God to become our own. If that happens, our total devotion and intentions of the heart become tainted and our God receives no glory from the very gifts we are given for His use. But God is faithful. He is always monitoring our hearts and prompting us to get our spirits in tune with Him. If we look
for Him to do this and obey, He will make Himself know to us. If we continue in our own selfish way, we will be left to our own destructive course.

Read 1 Chronicles 28:9

"And you my son, Solomon, acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you; but if you forsake him, he will reject you forever." (NIV)

"And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the Lord searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him, he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever." The pure heart sees things through the eye of God, increasing closeness and confidence in God. The corrupted mind sees things in a self gratifying or perverted way so that sin increases and the sovereignty of God becomes minimized. These people claim to be godly and righteous, but their actions prove that they are imposters. They are cancer to the body of Christ and they hinder those who seek the Truth.

Read Titus 1:15,16

"To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good."
